The impact Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had on United’s Fantasy assets

The jury is still out on Manchester United’s Fantasy assets going into the new campaign.

The new manager bounce that the club experienced after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment in December gave way to some middling form in the final nine Gameweeks of the season.

Their pre-season results (five wins from six) have been quietly encouraging, at least, with Inter Milan and Spurs among the teams already beaten in July.

This latest Numbers Game piece differs from the usual format as we focus on the impact Solskjaer had on United’s assets in the second half of last season.

The Norwegian first took charge of the Red Devils in Gameweek 18, so we will examine United’s stats before and after the departure of Jose Mourinho.

Just considering the Richarlison vs Siggy conundrum. On last season Siggy was the narrow winner, but I reckon Richy may still have some improvement in him getting say an extra 4 or 5 goals this season. Whereas we know what Siggy’s output is going to be

If Richarlison was involved in pre-season I would agree and pick Richarlison. But he's been away with Brazil, so may not start GW1.

Expecting a big season from him though.

Everton can’t score goals so I would avoid both for now. If I had to choose, i’d go Siggy for set pieces and pens

    Which is the better option
    A) Digne & 6.0 mid
    B) Laporte & 5.5 mid
No other City or Everton defensive coverage

Same conundrum - assume you have TAA as well?
Robertson has the potential for more attacking points than VVD and Coleman scored as many as Digne towards the end of last season but it doesn't feel like that simple a decision

Didn't watch the Charity shield - has it changed anything for your team or made anything clearer?

    1. Andy_Social

For me, both teams were very rusty and no one stood out, but that's to be expected of the CS. What it suggested to me is that once firing, bith Salah and Sterling are going to be unplayable, so no more drafts where I try to drop one of them!

I was also interested to see Zink, Stones and Gomez all start and it looks like those 3 5.5 options are goers.

Sane's early injury might mean the end of the experiment playing Sterling up top to allow Kun and Jesus more rest.

        • 9 Years

Disagree about Gomez. Matip was better after he came on and was also very very solid at the end of last season. Gomez is not an option

Salah was in and out of my team but he’s firmly in now. I’ve downgraded VVD to Gomez to upgrade elsewhere. The thing I took from it as that perhaps Liverpool aren’t going to as slow to start the season as I had expected given Afcon and whatever the SouthAmerican tournament is called

    3. TheDragon
      • 6 Years
      4 years, 8 months ago

      Why?

-Rotation risk far greater for city defenders
-Attacking returns far greater for Liverpool defenders
-Baps far more likely for Liverpool defenders (as salah scores loads of goals and never gets baps)

I don’t think city’s slightly higher clean sheet probability makes up for the above

I wouldn't let the Shield put you off Liverpool fullbacks, they'll be getting further forward against weaker opponents. Klopp tends to play cautiously whenever he faces Pep.

And VVD has been a huge threat all through pre-season and in the Shield. I was sceptical he can hit 4 goals, 4 assists again, but given how dominant he is in the air, and how he is the main target for every set-piece, he may even improve on it.

I haven't changed this for a couple of days now....which is usually a good sign. Thoughts?

    Heaton
    TAA VVD Digne WanB
    Salah Sterling Fraser Richarlison Ceballos

I'm gambling on Richarlisons explosiveness & Ceballos is a punt but I'm calling early bandwagon on that one.

Otherwise, I think I'm well covered.

The idea is to swap Richarlison/Wilson for something like Son/Deleofeu GW3....eventually looking to Deleofeu > Wood around GW5.

Every team could score against them. Do you have any stats saying he assisted Mane more last season? I remember TAA finding Mane and Robbo assisting Bobby/Salah

They aren’t playing Southampton or arsenal and mane will be playing week 2 onwards

    Which pairing is best?

    A) Wilson and Lanzini

    B) King and Lucas

    Are we overlooking dilva?
7.5, had been returning in all his appearances pre-season.
Sure he’ll have his game time managed but he looks like real value a 7.5.
Easy swap to martial / siggy / downgrade to Robinson or else or upgrade to Pepe or Son

Yeah I’m tempted also. Club captain, final season, increased goal threat in recent years. Bilva is only 0.5m more so expect most prefer him given he’ll likely be in the front 3 with Sane out

I would just go for Martial or Siggy from the start to be honest. You’ll be getting Dilva some of the time with some appearances from Dendonker

I'm new to EPL Fantasy - this is my first year
Does the loophole work in FPL?
I'm used to NRL Fantasy and Supercoach so I'm an experienced looper, just wondering if you can do it in FPL.

Do we think Ederson & Laporte both start GW1 given no shows in the CS?

I think at this point if premium players are doubts, whatever the reason, then its better to look elsewhere until they aren't.
I wanted Laca GW1 and 2, but I won't chance it now. Laporte, at least, in the same position.

Agree with this - not worth the risk, particularly if you have fodder on the bench

    Pope/Button
    Walker VVD O'Connel Taylor/Kilman
    KDB Pulisic Mane
    Auba Kane Wood

Its either this (mane and auba) or I switch back to a salah/vardy
    Wood or King?

Not Mane - no pre-season so think game time will be managed to start with
