The impact Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had on United’s Fantasy assets

The jury is still out on Manchester United’s Fantasy assets going into the new campaign.

The new manager bounce that the club experienced after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment in December gave way to some middling form in the final nine Gameweeks of the season.

Their pre-season results (five wins from six) have been quietly encouraging, at least, with Inter Milan and Spurs among the teams already beaten in July.

This latest Numbers Game piece differs from the usual format as we focus on the impact Solskjaer had on United’s assets in the second half of last season.

The Norwegian first took charge of the Red Devils in Gameweek 18, so we will examine United’s stats before and after the departure of Jose Mourinho.

Not really - off bench first GW and then home start GW2 seems most likely right now.

Mamadou Sakho fit to play GW1? Otherwise Nathan Aké the best 5.0 option?

If you’re going Palace defence then Ward at 4.5 looks best to me unless a RB is signed. Likely to be close to Sakho overall and a very decent choice if Palace run to last season’s form. Big if that especially when looking at early season

What are you guys thoights on Pepe ? Better to wait how he settles or do you get him straight in case he does well and his price goes up ? Thanks

It's wait and see for me. Thankfully they have tough fixtures GW3 and GW4 which might curb a price hike if he hits the ground running.

      Pondering.

He’ll be a very early transfer next week to beat price change I think for me. Risk of course but if he’s on fire and on pens he could be mental

For me yep. I’d say him & Sean Longstaff are most nailed, with Shelvey looking like he could start this season. Nice differential to Dendoncker for the 4.5s

Cheers. See Dendoncker being a Problem if wolves do end up signing a CM after being linked to approaches for Kessie. Hayden got forward a lot last year and in pre season he could be the one

Hayden only nailed his spot January onwards last season, he can hit a shot from distance & is also a versatile player so can slot in at full back & centre back. He probably was nailed a similar sort of time to Dendoncker if you really wanted to go in depth and compare, but can’t go wrong with him imo

It all looked good for a 532 with almiron and joelinton up. Where do you see Saint maximin slotting in? Move back to 541/523?

          This was my issue.
Surely you have to go 4231? With Longstaff CAM? Or when Ritchie back move almiron to CAM and drop Longstaff back in place of shelvey.
With 541 when all are fit who of the 3 CMs misses out? Shelvey, Hayden, Longstaff?

          Maybe a 4–3-3

          Dubravka

          Willems Schar Lascelles New RB

          Hayden Shelvey Longstaff

That would make sense but odd they haven't experimented with it pre-season (could have brought sm on for cb rather than almiron). 532 with almiron/sm alongside joelinton like in preseason would seem like a well balanced formation but then doesn't make the most of signings...did you watch the game on Saturday (I've only read reports) - how did joelinton look?

I didn’t watch or go to the games, for obvious reasons. But he looked on the ball to get his goal, even though it’s pre season it’s massive to get off the mark. I wish Almiron could of got off the mark he desperately needs a goal

Great FPL asset. 3 in last 3 loving new role on left of front 3. Problem is I think he has got lucky being on the receiving end of haller’s creativity so often. The midfielders will share so many points. See Haller being involved a lot i’d Go him if a West Ham attacker

Lovely relationship with Haller but also one to share the points. I’d say 3 or 4 games in we have a midfielder hogging all the points then we know the one to get. As it stands all 3 of Haller, Fornals and Lanzini are doing well so none necessarily a bad pick right now at all

Had a tinker and came up with what should be an almost final lineup.

    Pope
    Awb Walker Digne Robbo
    Sterling Salah Pepe Perez
    Jota King

    Ryan Kelly Guendouzi Nketiah

Pepe is my only starting risk and I will probably temporarily bring in Erikson or KDB for Gw1.

    Thoughts?

Deciding between Kane/Auba and Sterling is doing my head in.

Prefer the balance of having a premium striker - but watching Sterling's tap ins on MOTD are going to kill me.

    xxx - Salah - KDB - Perez
    xxx - Wilson

With a defensive shuffle it's basically:

    A. Kane/Auba + 6.5 (Lanzini)

He is quite versatile and has a good weak foot as well. He can play on any right hand (Even as a winger) position but I have never seen him play on the left. But it's definitely possible. I've taken Zinchenko out as regardless of the Cancelo factor, Mendy is coming back soon and City's first 3 aren't the best from a defensive standpoint.

    Can I get some feedback?

    Ryan
    Robertson Luiz Shaw Diop
    Salah Sterling Pepe Perez
    Wilson Jota

Subs : £4m Lundstram Dendocker Greenwood

    £0.5m ITB

    Thoughts:
With AWB and Maguire at the back, Shaw's attacking returns should be complemented with a few extra CS. May potentially swap Shaw for Maguire for those set piece goals he picks up.
Pepe unknown quantity to me, just experimenting for now. Alternative is Pogba + £1.5m ITB or Moura + £2.5m ITB. Looks a goal threat from midfield though?
£0.5m ITB could do Jota > Abraham/Bats/Giroud or whoever nails starting spot.
