The impact Ralph Hasenhuttl has had on Southampton’s FPL assets

Southampton are one of the most overlooked teams in Fantasy Premier League as Gameweek 1 draws ever nearer.

Only one of the Saints’ FPL assets is owned by more than 2.5% of managers: Shane Long (£5.0m), who, barring injuries, is expected to be among the substitutes when Southampton run out at Turf Moor this Saturday.

While the south coast club’s fixtures are a horror show between Gameweeks 7 and 13 (all of the sides they face in this period finished in the top nine last season), there are some more appealing encounters with Burnley, Brighton, Sheffield United and Bournemouth in the first half-dozen Gameweeks.

Pre-season results are not always a reliable barometer but the Saints are unbeaten in five matches this summer, winning four of them.

New signing Che Adams (£6.0m) has arguably been the stand-out performer, with three goals and two assists.

Is there anything to encourage Fantasy investment in the first six Gameweeks, then?

In this latest Numbers Game article, we take a slightly different approach to the series template and instead focus on the impact Ralph Hasenhuttl has made on Southampton following his appointment in December 2018.

Very nice. Martial Moura and Wilson better than Kane King and 5.5 mid? That's the difference with my team.

I have the same attack but my defense is a bit different:

      Heaton
      Robbo VVD Digne Taylor/Ryan (rotation)

Everton signed Sidibe so it could mean rotation for Coleman, probably not soon though..

Zinchenko is someone I would love to own, but the only way is to downgrade Digne, and I can't do it

At last FF have come to its senses and after the Pepe price debacle, they have priced Keen at 7.0 which is lower than I thought. He has had no preseason so the chances of him starting is slim but still a potential fantasy gold?

I will have to re arrange my team again to get him in which is annoying as I am quite happy with it but might get him now as my third striker. It means I’ll have to get Jorginho as my 4th midfielder instead of Barclay. Still worth a punt?

Nailed on striker, likely on pens, against two promoted teams first up.

I normally don't do rotating 4.5 keepers as it can be frustrating but this season the stand out fixture rotation of Burnley and Villa suggests its the way to go. Saves 0.5 on Ederson and Button which could change your Mount to Perez.

Two names under the radar - Keane and Mina.
All attention is on the Toffee wingbacks, but someone mentioned that with the new rules on no man-handling in the area, that's gonna help CBs up for corners. Mina got our attention when he kept nutting 'em in in the World Cup. Why the neglect? Are they not great options?

When you say no playing subs... There are players likely to get minutes in the cheapest category

Hayden likely to start, Lundstram looks likely to get minutes, maybe Gibson/Dendonker too. Just make sure you're picking the right ones and it shouldn't be too much of a worry

They didn't concede much in pre season and Digne can get much more attacking returns than Walker.

Calvert lewin will become a bench player now that Moise Kean signed.

I'm not sure about Siggy myself, originally had him but Everton attacking form has declined, and I think I rather have Kean as my attacking coverage in a few gameweeks (for example Wilson -> Kean)

If rotating, you would play Pope only in GWs 1 and 6
Strong chance you would be wildcarding before 6, and even if not, Heaton is good until GW 9, by then you could wildcard or just transfer him out to Pope.

The 0.5 is more important and rotating keeper is annoying.

I think the potential is there, he played well in pre season, he looks nailed to start the season

I think if he scores against Chelsea he could be a big bandwagon, considering how many Man UTD fans are playing this game

      Wood GW1 and then meh..
Deeney and Watford didn't look too good in pre season

Jota for me, if you can ignore the fixtures difficulty

12 million to spend for 3rd and 4th midfield spots?
    A) Trossard + Barkley
    B) Perez + Robinson
    C) Maddison + Kante

TBH When I see teams without Salah I usually just move on, but I have to comment once in a while.
Going Salah-less is unnecessary risk IMO, he will be most captained in GWs 1-2

RMT with 0.5 ITB. Ripped up the team again.

    Ryan
    TAA Digne Zchenko KWP
    Salah Sterling Martial Robinson
    Kane Ings
    (Dendocker, Lundstram, Greenwood)

Worried about my bench but think other than greenwood, the others should start.

i'd be worried about the lack of bench and starting Ings & Robinson every week!
you need to downgrade martial and upgrade robinson
