Captain Poll

Vote in the Gameweek 1 captain poll

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) is expected to be the most popular captain going into Gameweek 1 of the new season.

His Liverpool side play host to newly-promoted Norwich City on Friday night.

The Canaries were particularly leaky at the back last season, even as they won promotion from the Championship.

Their goals conceded tally (57) in 2018/19 was the worst inside the top four and only four teams recorded worse than that in the division’s top 12.

By contrast, Manchester City were the only Premier League team (57) to score more than Liverpool in home matche last year (55).

With Sadio Mané‘s (£11.5m) involvement in Gameweek 1 hard to guarantee, Salah seems to be the obvious candidate to benefit from such an appealing opening fixture.

Raheem Sterling (£12.0m) could be an interesting difference-maker as Manchester City prepare for a trip to West Ham.

The Hammers could be without Mark Noble (£5.0m) and Lukasz Fabianski (£5.0m) in Gameweek 1 which would make them more vulnerable than they already are to the defending champions.

Manchester City scored four times on their last league visit to the London Stadium, with Sterling notching a goal and two assists.

The England international will also be in good spirits after scoring against Liverpool in the Community Shield final on Sunday.

Harry Kane (£11.0m) is also pulling some support in ahead of Gameweek 1 as Spurs prepare for a meeting with Aston Villa.

No forward had more shots on target than Kane last season.

You can now vote in the latest captain poll below, which will be used in our Captain Sensible analysis article later in the week.

Ok it’s a bit template but final draft looks like this

    Button Ederson

    Dunk Robbo VVD Lundstram Cathcart

    Fraser Salah Sterling Perez Dendoncker

    Wilson Jota Adams

Bit concerned about Jota now Wolves have the third striker & the lack of money in the forward line, but for now that’s it.

That’s my point really. Two players who aren’t nailed to start. One young and hungry with considerable talent, the other seasoned veteran. It has been suggested that Greenwood might start against Chelsea.

    7.5m / 8.0m Midfielders - Safe to say there’s a few options!

    Richarlison:

PROS - Everton have great fixtures. He typically scores excellently at the start of the season, which goes with his improved threat stats in comparison to, say, Sigurdsson.
CONS - Very short preseason since he had Copa America duty – potentially might find himself jaded. Can go missing for long periods of time, Sigurdsson ended up scoring just as many times as him despite his rapid start. Everton have had a poor preseason in terms of goal scoring, lots of change with new signings.

    Sigurdsson:

PROS - Again, great fixtures. Looks like he should have penalties plus set pieces. Picks up the steady points, which led to him being the 4th highest scoring midfielder from last season left in the game. Great creation stats.
CONS - Quiet preseason, plus Everton have scored poorly in preseason. Less likely to score (arguably) to score than many of the others in this price bracket.

    Bernardo Silva:

PROS - Man City midfielder, who plays in either the middle 3 or as a winger, which immediately makes him a good option. Pretty nailed as City players go, one of Pep’s favourites.
CONS - Despite playing for City and playing as a winger he tends to score very poorly as a FPL option. Unselfish player, prefers to work for the team than score / assist himself.

    Pulisic:

PROS - Quick, exciting winger with a very high potential to score excellently. Has the potential to be Chelsea’s talisman, showed good preseason form. Should be nailed, great fixtures for 3/4.
CONS - Unproven new signing – no idea how he’ll cope with the physicality of the Premier League. Due to Willian’s injury, he’ll likely have to play on his less preferred side on the left, which also means he’ll have to face against AWB gameweek 1, which is one of the worst full backs he could face. First two fixtures tough and Chelsea a relative question mark. Poor goal scoring history.

    Fraser:

PROS - Fantastic first two fixtures. Superb creation stats last season, plays for a team that have the potential to score a lot in easy games.
CONS - Many will already have a forward and might be reluctant to double considering the tough fixtures after gameweek 2, or would rather balance the risk. Unsure if he’ll be worth his new price tag.

    Martial:

PROS - Struggled with limited minutes last season, but now looks far more nailed. Can be explosive, plus looks set to be OOP. Opening fixtures of Chelsea (awful defence in preseason) and Wolves (midweek EL in Armenia with a limited squad) might turn out to be good fixtures.
CONS - Fixtures on paper are sub-optimal. Always feels a risk to drop out the team, can be very underwhelming when you expect big things.

    Moura:

PROS - Explosive, capable of a hattrick especially with a nice first fixture. OOP playing alongside Kane.
CONS - Plays Man City second, huge rotation risk after GW2 when Son returns, poorer returns if he plays out wide.

    How do you rank them?
Anything you’d add to my notes?

Agree with all of the above - as a result, currently have none of them in my side - opting for KDB (with easy swap to Son) and a compromise up front.

If you pick one of these as a 2 week punt, to allow yourself time to see how the options fall out, it seems almost rude to pass up on Fraser given his fixtures and his history.

Still, he's the only one that hasn't drifted through my team yet. Not sure why - I happily tripled on Bournemouth attack last year!

      Honestly Richarlison could be fantastic

I know the buzz is that Everton needed a striker, and Kean could do very well for them... But if Richarlison improved another bit this year he could push for a lot of attacking returns

I'm not getting him though as the 8.0 is just an awkward price to start

Im currently on a mid 5 of

      Moura - Salah - Perez - Martial - Bilva

Had to sacrifice VVD to AWB so I can upgrade to Martial.

      Full team 3-5-2 / 4-5-1

      Heaton/Pope (rotation)
Digne - TAA - AWB (Duffy - Lundstrom)
      Moura - Salah - Perez - Martial - Bilva
      Wilson - Vardy (Greenwood)

Im really hoping the pool defense under perform this year.

Apparently, im the only guy in my ML not going with a double pool at the back.

Auba seemed lucrative, I just want to watch arsenal play a couple of times with Pepe, to figure out who's going to be in tap-in positions.

Vardy is nailed, Leicester will be throwing him balls left right and center, he's on pens, and he loves to score vs a 3 backline (wolves) and chelsea.

Im confident he will outscore Auba in the early run.

Got £1.5m ITB and not sure where to go:

    Ryan, Pope (rotation)
    Robertson, Digne, Pereira, Stones, (Guilbert)
Salah, De Bruyne, Sigurdsson, Barkley, (Dedoncker)
    Vardy, King, (Greenwood)

With pens don't think King to Wilson is the upgrade needed. Don't really want to strengthen bench too much either

Pereira seems the weak link there

Assume you've made the no Sterling / Kane decision. For me, it's risky going without 2 from Salah, Sterling, Kane

Dodged a bullet there. The obvious choice is Wickham. Palace always start so slow, Woy is bound to give up on Tekkers and Ayew, giving the boy game time.

Greenwood? I guess he'll get some minutes if United doesn't buy new striker or winger.

RMT with 0.5 ITB. Ripped up the team again.

    Ryan
    TAA Digne Zchenko KWP
    Salah Sterling Martial Robinson
    Kane Ings
    (Dendocker, Lundstram, Greenwood)

Ings or King? Can't decide. Ings cheaper and on form in pre season. Both on penalties. King more proven?

Same team as me, got to be Zinchenko upgrade to 7m mid or forward, he's not nailed and City don't look like keeping clean sheets in their first three.

Have to play 2 up top every week as much as possible, do you...

    1. Vardy & Wilson
    2. Kane & 6m Striker

If 2. who is your 6m striker?

Same dilemma for me, I can't bring myself to get rid of Kane as I think he'll have a stormer this season. If 6m, Ings (providing he doesn't break his legs putting his socks on).

    Interested in people's thoughts.

Is it worth having three big premium players e.g. Kane, Sterling, Salah if you're only likely to captaincy rotate between two of them? Is it worth forking out big cash on the third premium player, given that it strangles the depth of the team?

    1. tissae
      • 9 Years

No, and thats why most people are going with 2 premium mids Salah and Sterling

Many have tried. For me I can't get a satisfactory squad, so I don't have more than 2x10m+ players.

Huge question and hopefully the last big one plaguing my team

    A) Sterling+5.5m def+Fraser +VVD

    B) KDB+robbo+VVD+Fraser

Currently on B, just getting crazy anxiety about not owning Sterling.
