Captain Poll

Vote in the Gameweek 1 captain poll

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) is expected to be the most popular captain going into Gameweek 1 of the new season.

His Liverpool side play host to newly-promoted Norwich City on Friday night.

The Canaries were particularly leaky at the back last season, even as they won promotion from the Championship.

Their goals conceded tally (57) in 2018/19 was the worst inside the top four and only four teams recorded worse than that in the division’s top 12.

By contrast, Manchester City were the only Premier League team (57) to score more than Liverpool in home matche last year (55).

With Sadio Mané‘s (£11.5m) involvement in Gameweek 1 hard to guarantee, Salah seems to be the obvious candidate to benefit from such an appealing opening fixture.

Raheem Sterling (£12.0m) could be an interesting difference-maker as Manchester City prepare for a trip to West Ham.

The Hammers could be without Mark Noble (£5.0m) and Lukasz Fabianski (£5.0m) in Gameweek 1 which would make them more vulnerable than they already are to the defending champions.

Manchester City scored four times on their last league visit to the London Stadium, with Sterling notching a goal and two assists.

The England international will also be in good spirits after scoring against Liverpool in the Community Shield final on Sunday.

Harry Kane (£11.0m) is also pulling some support in ahead of Gameweek 1 as Spurs prepare for a meeting with Aston Villa.

No forward had more shots on target than Kane last season.

You can now vote in the latest captain poll below, which will be used in our Captain Sensible analysis article later in the week.

Team A or B stronger and any reasons why? Struggling to decide!

    A

    Pope (Button)
Robbo, VVD, Zinchenko, Dunk, Catchcart (Rotating 4.5s)
    Sterling, Salah, Perez, Barkley (Dendoncker)
    Kane, King (Greenwood)

    B

    Pope (Button)
    Robbo, VVD, Zinchenko, Digne (Lundstram)
    Sterling, Salah, KDB, Perez (Dendoncker)
    Jota, King (Greenwood)

I can't really decide on anything so wondering if simplifying the old formation will help...

    Heaton (Woodman)
    Coleman *VVD* Zinchenko
    Moura *Mo* Raz* Lamela
    Barnes *Kane* Gray

VVD, Salah, Sterling & Kane all solid-nailed FPL players, also the highest owned in each category.

Keep the VDD-Mo-Raz-Kane diamond for as long as possible and concentrate FTs on the 'wide players' 😀

    1. SADIO SANÉ
      • 8 Years
      4 years, 8 months ago

if Coleman & Zinchenko keep up a decent PPM then you could realistically just be looking at concentrating FTs on just 4 players

        Working off similar principles.

In my set up Wilson and Perez are midterm holds with Kane Sterling Robbo TAA land the keeper set and forget unless circs happen!!!!

That leaves me with a 9.5 mid spot forward spot and bandwagon mid to fill. The defence I hope to rejuvenate when funds appear

yeah, it might end up being a hindrance but some sort of rule on who you can/can't transfer out could be a good way to remove all the noise

              Post GW :

I had xyz in my 47th draft. Jate myself for making 26 more draft after that. That draft would've outscored current draft by 16 points 😀

hmm you can still create the 'untouchable diamond' (visually) with a 5atb formation, but the bench would be terrible

              I have chambers ( probably will play a lot) , Greenwood ( cameos) , Hayden ( nailed) .

Not so bad. Points potential is low yes, but they can come in handy if needed

    3. The Overthinker

I got somewhat similar team. But going with different formation. My thinking is the same.

I have verto and awb in there with the diamond . Which leaves me to focus only on 4 players wiz ; Perez, wood , martial and cathcart.

This is my core. Everything else may change

      Heaton
      Awb vvd verto
      Salah sterling
      Kane

yeah nice - it's nonsense really but if it's in a 343 formation it looks really nice on the My Team page - if the 5.5 defenders perform then you can look at it as the 'untouchable triangle' 😀 change to 343 for a sec and you'll see what I mean; only the RM/LM and RF/LF are transfer-able

        1. The Overthinker
          • 7 Years

No doubt it does look sexy. Also it's fun.

Me thinks should stay away from here if we have to keep the triangle untouched

1 or 2 Liverpool Defence, Salah, Sterling are nailed for me Clive. It then boils down to Kane or KDB + 1.5m to spend somewhere else. I'm leaning towards KDB. Plenty of options after that decision is made.

    Any thoughts??

    A Ake

Seeing lots of Dunk but going off last season both of these seem value for the extra 0.5. Like the theory VAR may make big centre halves more valuable from corners with less holding.

Coleman a big concern now with Sidibe signing, has to be Digne.

I get the five in midfield but it feels so much more balanced with a 442 and Barkley is a big concern.

Moura over Martial to start with, Chelsea could keep United out but no way villa keep spurs out although you have villa keeper....

Haller seems an unnecessary risk especially v city, I think he's overpriced too with all the 6.5 and 6m forward options.

    A: Robbo

B: VVD + 0.5 ITB, potentially to do 6.5 > Abraham/Kean when we find out which is best

Hard one but I'd go with A, dont think Abraham/Kean gonna outscore any 6.5 striker that hard to make it worth.

    Another approach

    Fabianski (Button)
    Digne, TAA, Zinchenko (Kelly, Lundstram)
    Stephens, Salah, Sterling, Sigurdsson, Ceballos
    Kane, Murray (Greenwood)
    + 0.5m in bank

Not sure if I should look for cheaper GK to have additional flexibility.

Woah! Can Chelsea do with just 3 CBs or is the Tomori kid in with a shout?

Tomori is decent but would be surprised to see Kurt go

I see the next transfer is likely to be ROONEY to DERBY!!!!!
Bunch of United kids to head there on loan?

Plenty of players looking like they'll go to Everton, can't see Zouma being one of them.

If you want Zappacosta or Bakayoko though, I'm sure we'll pay you to take them.

Got some good goals pre season, plenty of options just picking the correct one?

B with Fraser and Jota, wouldnt rush with Barkley from the start, we gotta see if he is a regular first, and we can always downgrade to him since hes is 6.0m
