Captain Poll

Vote in the Gameweek 1 captain poll

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) is expected to be the most popular captain going into Gameweek 1 of the new season.

His Liverpool side play host to newly-promoted Norwich City on Friday night.

The Canaries were particularly leaky at the back last season, even as they won promotion from the Championship.

Their goals conceded tally (57) in 2018/19 was the worst inside the top four and only four teams recorded worse than that in the division’s top 12.

By contrast, Manchester City were the only Premier League team (57) to score more than Liverpool in home matche last year (55).

With Sadio Mané‘s (£11.5m) involvement in Gameweek 1 hard to guarantee, Salah seems to be the obvious candidate to benefit from such an appealing opening fixture.

Raheem Sterling (£12.0m) could be an interesting difference-maker as Manchester City prepare for a trip to West Ham.

The Hammers could be without Mark Noble (£5.0m) and Lukasz Fabianski (£5.0m) in Gameweek 1 which would make them more vulnerable than they already are to the defending champions.

Manchester City scored four times on their last league visit to the London Stadium, with Sterling notching a goal and two assists.

The England international will also be in good spirits after scoring against Liverpool in the Community Shield final on Sunday.

Harry Kane (£11.0m) is also pulling some support in ahead of Gameweek 1 as Spurs prepare for a meeting with Aston Villa.

No forward had more shots on target than Kane last season.

You can now vote in the latest captain poll below, which will be used in our Captain Sensible analysis article later in the week.

They’ve bought another forward, but Robinson has been banging them in for Sheff U in preseason.

I think he’ll play now, but there’s no guarantees.

A puzzle for you chaps.... (on A for the gw2 captain option currently)

    A. Auba, King, 4.5 (eg. Duff)
    B. Vardy, Wilson, 4.5
    C. Vardy, King, Robertson

Yeah I have Salah - just prefer Aub as a pick for it. Just tinkered with this though...

        Heaton - 4
        VVD - Coleman - Zinc - 4.5 - 4
        Salah - Sterling - Moura - Fraser - 4.5
        Wilson - Vardy - 4.5

        Which is tempting!

I’ve got a similar dilemma and currently have Wilson Zaha (assuming moves to Everton). If that move doesn’t go ahead I’ll probably go with either Fraser or Moura alongside Wilson. King doesn’t fill me with confidence

        I'm very tempted with B.

        Just means 2 x 6.5m up front....

King and deeney in my case....

Deeney is nailed and on pens. Watford have reasonable opening fixtures and usually start well.
Plus don't fancy any of the other 6.5s.
Worried about jota and Europa workload.....

      Prefer the 6.0m forwards.

Ings, Wesley, Adams are all good. And they take penalties too.

    2. UnluckyXI

Looking back you get better value for money as you go down the pitch e.g.

GK and Def best value per £ then kids and finally forwards so you should be spending more on the mids to max your efficiency.

      1. Pukki Blinders
        • 4 Years
        4 years, 8 months ago

That's generally the case, but I think the 6.0 bracket is an exception oddly

I disagree on the mids though. 6.5m mids and higher are great but 6.0m and less and you get either rotation liabilities or CMs without much potential.

You need at least one playing bench slit. Salah, Sterling and Auba makes the team unbalanced. Downgrade one and have a 4.5 defender on the bench and upgrade stones (he's a transfer waiting to happen)

The game would be a lot more interesting if Salah was a 12.0m forward.

Mane then at 11.0m mid. That would really make it a tough decision between the two. But now, everyone just picks Salah...

Salah , Sterling, Lucas Moura, Robinson, (Hourihane),
          Wilson, Deeney, Adams

Nothing left in the bank though :/

            I like it.

Probably because our teams are very similar...

            Ryan vs Pope
            Zouma vs Coleman
            Lucas vs Fraser
            Deeney vs Perez

Thanks! Probably I will switch Lucas when Son returns. And I want to see how some of the players in the promoted teams will do.

Final touches on my team, down to these 4 options:

          1) TAA, Barkley, Perez
          2) TAA, Barkley, Digne
          3) TAA, Zaha, KWP
          4) VVD, Fraser, KWP

The rest of the team stays constant. Which one do you like most?

            Risks in all for me
1 with 6.0 placeholder if Barkley is assured starts

The risk here is mostly KWP/Barkley right?

Zaha obviously I can swap to Maddy/Felipe or anyone else as well.

Cheers. Prefer having Perez over Digne despite the fixtures?
