Which Spurs players are worth owning in FPL this season?

Tottenham Hotspur players are causing some Fantasy Premier League managers dilemmas at the start of the season.

They have a favourable opening fixture at home to Aston Villa but with a trip to Manchester City in Gameweek 2 and relatively expensive price points, their assets could be the ones to miss out on those initial teams.

However, there are some encouraging reasons to own some of Mauricio Pochettino’s players at the start of the new campaign.

In this article we assess Spurs’ defensive and attacking potential based on last season’s underlying statistics.

As this analysis uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those who have signed up for the 2019/20 season can access it in full.

worth doing zinch to walker if i have 0.5 sitting around?

wondering if zinch is more nailed than walker tbh

Don't like either tbh :/. Especially with Cancelo signing but go with gut

Cancelo can play on either side of the defence so no one is really safe, assuming the transfer comes to fruition.

I didn't naturally assume you had the short term in mind tbf, but yes in that case I'd go with Walker. Stones will probably start the first few as well before rotation with Otamendi begins.

I don't think any MCY defender is worth getting due to random rotation. Only route is Ederson really.

I’d take the risk on Zinch personally.

As I value your opinion mate, thoughts on this current team? Question marks mainly over Zaha (only getting if goes to Everton) and Haller (worth it from the off?).
      —0.5 ITB—
      Pope (4.0)
      TAA VVD Coleman Zinchenko (Gibson)
      Salah Sterling Perez Zaha (Dendoncker)
      Wilson Haller (Greenwood)

Should I do Coleman to Digne, something else, keep the £..?

Recognizing that you asked embolofan’s opinion and not mine, I would def be using that .5 on either Coleman > Digne or possibly on Zaha (Fraser/Martial/Lucas) if he’s not looking like lining up for Everton at Selhurst this weekend.
I like (and have) a Wilson/Haller front line.

Why not? I hate benching decent forwards. You never really know when they could pop up with a goal.

I'd only consider benching vs mcy or liv.

Klopp said Mane has returned in good nick it's just whether hes ready to play him from the outset as he's had the least amount of rest within the squad. I believe Origi starts (it's home to Norwich) but after that huge risk

Here is my 1st draft of this season vs. my current draft 10,000 tinkers later.

    1st:
    Ryan
    TAA, Laporte, Coleman
    Salah, Sterling, Zaha, Grealish, Gross
    King, Vardy

    Henderson, Lundstram, Kelly, Greenwood.

    Current:
    Henderson – Button
    TAA – Zinchenko – Taylor(BUR)
    Salah – Sterling – Norwood – Maddison
    Auba – Barnes – King

    Button - Lundstram - Guilbert - Dendoncker

Deepest midfielder. Literally sits in for the overlapping cm and sprays the ball. Most likely closest he comes to an assist will be a assist of an assist and the occasional set piece.

Off the top of my head something like
      GK 6.0 4.0 =10m
      DEF 7.0 6.0 5.0 5.0 4.5 = 27.5m
      MID 12.0 8.0 6.5 6.0 4.5 =37m
      ATK 11.0 8.0 6.5 =25.5m
This would create benching headaches and i challenge anyone to come up with a a decent team on those prices

Wood has had a good preseason and faces some iffy defs early on is a reasonable shout - also means you can get a 4.5m scummer mid who plays which isn't an option up top.

Not starting with either, but... What is everybody expecting from Moise kean (7.0) vs Haller (7.5)?

Not sure what to expect out of kean tbh, but my thinking Haller for .5 more will be the better pick. Thoughts?

    1. Top Lad Dakes.
      • 7 Years
      4 years, 8 months ago

Been wondering the same honestly. If Kean starts firing and is for sure nailed from the start I’ll likely take a punt on him, but maybe a bit risky to start with.

Haller is in my current draft alongside Wilson up top, though, despite that initial fixture. I still feel they overpriced him by 0.5 (maybe Kean too honestly), but their GW2+ fixtures are good and he’s got a solid creative midfield behind him too. Easy downgrade if it fails as well

      1. Helia
        • 8 Years
        4 years, 8 months ago

Thinking along the same lines as you. I can fit in kean atm, Alongside Kane and Vardy if I switch to 3 up top, Haller on the other hand is hard to fit in.. that extra .5 seems impossible without comprimisong the balance of the team or my double liv defence, salah kdb kane and Vardy.

I have a bad case of wanting Kane and Vardy, I’m trying to convince myself to go with just 1, and if so it would definitely be for one of Haller and kean. Tactic atm is to start with Kane and Vardy and decide after gw 3 or so which one of them to transfer out.

        1. Helia
          • 8 Years
          4 years, 8 months ago

Starting with Kane and Vardy just seems safer as I can downgrade them quite easy for whoever seems the better pick

Think Haller has more experience and a few years older. Kean may well be a superstar but we are looking at very limited minutes. I think Haller is already well proven and worth .5 more. Actually I think Hallers price is a joke just going to wait til GW 2 or 3 to get him.

      1. Helia
        • 8 Years
        4 years, 8 months ago

Limited minutes for Kean you think? Interesting.... I do agree with you though about Haller. Seems like a quality pick, just don’t see the need to go with him from the off like you said.

I meant his history is limited from a stats perspective not saying he will get limited minutes

Think this is my final version although I've said that a few times now and changed it.

    Anyways ...

    Pope
    Robbo VVD Digne Zinchenko
    Salah Sterling KDB Perez
    King Wesley

    4.0 Rico Dendonker Greenwood

0.5 itb to possibly upgrade King to a Chelsea fwd or Kean once that picture becomes a bit clearer

    GTG?

Yeah very nice tbh. I’m starting with Wilson over King, but if I choose to do that downgrade later I can get a 9.5 mid in and we’d have the same team

Kelly and Greenwood won't start or probably play much most likely leaves you with massive headache and Heaton and Pope better than Ryan imo

Laporte but not sure with his yellow flagged. I am currently have Zinchenko but Cancelo news makes me more afraid with rotation, maybe I will get KWP.

My guess is looking at the top scorers in the 4.5 defender list without regard to context or circumstances.

Terrible if Bournemouth don't do well against the "newly promoted teams"

The problem with writing an article like this so close to TDD is that in two days it will need to be completely revised if Coutinho and Dybala are on the books!

Final draft baring any impacting transfers or team news-

Robertson - VVD - Zinchenko - Rico (Montoya)
Salah - Sterling - Perez (Norwood - Dendoncker)
    Auba - King - Wesley

    Any feedback

      Pope - Button in goal

Montoya, Norwood and Rico (or whichever 4.0 gets the nod) to rotate for final team spot

    TAA, Zinchenko, Coleman
    Salah, Sterling, Perez, Fraser, Robinson
    Aubameyang, Wesley

Button, Kelly(palace),lundstram, Wickham (no confirmed starter at bench)

If Moura meant an almost certain hit down the line would you start with Barkley instead?

    A. Barkley
    B. Moura

I would. I've just taken Moura out. I put him in when Alli did his hammy, thinking he could retain his a spot post-GW3, but if Dybala and/or Coutinho arrive, he's done for. As I've got a very strong bench for GW1, I've purchased Zaha in expectation of him joining Everton, ready to join the fray GW2.

Interesting stuff. Thanks. I can just see the haul where the -4 don't matter as opposed to the fail and a horrible -4.
But yeah sensible option is to not plan a hit. Then again it's not like Barkley is nailed.

    (A) Leave it. Sorted!
    (B) Downgrade Digne, upgrade Grealish to Moura.
    (C) Downgrade Auba to Haller/DCL, upgrade B. Silva to Sterling.

    Alisson

    TAA, Digne, Dunk

    Grealish, Perez, B. Silva, Salah

    Auba, Wilson, Jimenez

    Subs: Button, Mings, Kelly, Dedoncker
