Which Spurs players are worth owning in FPL this season?

Tottenham Hotspur players are causing some Fantasy Premier League managers dilemmas at the start of the season.

They have a favourable opening fixture at home to Aston Villa but with a trip to Manchester City in Gameweek 2 and relatively expensive price points, their assets could be the ones to miss out on those initial teams.

However, there are some encouraging reasons to own some of Mauricio Pochettino’s players at the start of the new campaign.

In this article we assess Spurs’ defensive and attacking potential based on last season’s underlying statistics.

As this analysis uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those who have signed up for the 2019/20 season can access it in full.

    Pick one formation please:

4-5-1 - strong def starting 11 but weak bench.

    or

4-4-2 - much more balanced team but also very template.

4-4-2. Ideally, you should be able to switch. But always two forwards. Imo.

Depends on the players involved pal. 4-4-2 for more flexibility.

4-4-2 gives you the best ppm options.

Whichever option you choose, though, you are pretty much going to be restricted to a couple of premium defenders and 2 premium outfield players, be they mids or strikers.

Each formation has its advantages and drawbacks.

Whichever formation you go for, though, remember that the fact remains that everyone has the same amount of money to spend on their chosen team.

The key words there are last half of the season.

Him and richarlison seem to do well for the 1st half of the season and then drop off.

    OK I'm pretty set

    Pope Heaton
    VVD Digne Taylor Diop Guilbert
    Sterling Salah Perez Robinson Dendoncker
    Kane King Jota

Looks pretty risky at the outset but I'm going with a full bench to minimise the risk.
Playing 3 4 3 with the beautiful West ham, Burnley, Villa rotation.
Robinson is a risk.. But if he does kick off or if Mcginn looks good Ill have a bargain and I can keep Kane. If he fails it'll be Kane for any sub 7.5 striker with the cash used to upgrade robinson. Same principle applies to King and Jota.. Kane is my cash bank to upgrade those if necessary. I like keeping my funds in a premium player as a cash bank instead of spreading them around mid priced players who could blank themselves.
Digne is a place holder for Gomez/Stones/Maguire/Spurs once the dust settled with all of them.
Now to just see it I can hold my nerve until gw 1 kicks off.

The one thing I hate in fpl is picking the wrong 4.5 keeper and seeing another one floirish and reach 4.8 before I have a free transfer to get them in. With 2 of them I'm just spreading a wider net to catch the gk bargain of the season faster.. Plus a 4.0 never rises in price.. So hopefully my keepers give me some monetary gains too by the time I WC(usually December)

    2. Valar(Keith)
      • 14 Years

And pope Heaton since I can't see either of them outscoring the 5.5 to 6 keepers on their own. But I'm hoping that via rotating them il come close.. Plus spreading the 4.5 net so I catch this year's bargain faster instead of making a switch further down the line

Not a fan of that defence at the expense of the forward line, King is the inferior option to wilson and Jota has tough fixtures and will have europa exertions.
It’s hugely sacrificed for the sake of Kane and forward line, but if it’s a plan you’re happy with then best of luck bud.

      1. Valar(Keith)
        • 14 Years

I have a soft corner for King.. He was one of my favorite players 2 seasons ago and I am backing var to help him this season. Regards Jota.. My logic with europa is that wolves will be the only team in the epl who'll be match fit and sharp whereas the other teams won't have played any competitive football at all. In a few months tired legs will take affect but not yet. I've checked the stats and apart from Burnley(who had a thin poor squad anyway) most other europa teams did well in august/September (for eg Chelsea last year). And I love 3 way rotations. The 3 I have give me 14 home games(none vs the top 6) out of the first 14 game weeks and a bench of 2 playing 4.5ers too. Hoping I can match a premium with that. Do it every year and it always ends up working after a few adjustments 🙂

I like it but no matter how I keep changing things, I know I wont be able to afford a premium striker when I play my WC. Why? Because of Salah, Sterling, Pepe. And probably Son (or Coutinho!).

So why even start with one? Kane has been in my « main » draft from the start but some future key players arent fpl options just yet - but soon will.

Son is the only person I'd really want gw 3 onwards. Kane to kean and robinson to son is the plan. If Son wasn't suspended and kean was match fit, Haller dint have a tough gw1 and the unknown factor attached to him and if Jiminez was fit I'd do the swap now itself. However, I'd rather do it in gw 3 or 4 now with 2 transfers. Maybe il go auba over Kane to force my hand in gw 3 🙂

Picking Kane Imo is also to prepare and to be ready to react.... It might be that Kane and Aguero starts delivering and some of the prem midfielders fail. Then suddenly everyone wants to bring in Kane / Aguero or Aubameyang.

Not worried about perez. Can easily swap him to tielemans/lanzini or Chelsea if he fails. Robinson is the main worry for me. My only failsafe for him is mcginn :(.. I'm glad to give him 3 weeks though in the hope he explodes in one of them. Cheers.

He will make a mockery of his 9.5 price tag. Back to full fitness i feel he will want to prove a point after missing the whole of last season, people will be rushing to fit him in their teams for Bournemouth and Brighton GW3 and 4. Mark my words

He was on loan from Chelsea last season, naturally they gave a chance to their own youngster Sancho instead. He started close to every game the season before.

don't see anywhere that you could upgrade that would make an impact, so keep ITB.
Don't think Kean will start myself, but can always come of the bench and score of course

Keep it. Kean will not play, GW 1, imo.

He is 1.83 and 67 kilos. Will need time, perhaps a lot of time, to adjust to the Premiership.

Hard to judge. It rather depends on how well Pellegrini has the defence drilled. If we have improved, then he will hoover them up. If not ...

So, Fraser for first two gw's then switch to Martial is a optimum way to use 7.5m Midfield spot on paper right ??

Yes that's my plan with Fraser but Martial needs to show some form in the first 2 games.

I'm on Deeney atm like his first 4 fixtures better than the rest and he's also on pens. Could be a great differential only 3.3% owned.

Re Martial, i think he should do well after gw 2 (maybe we'll ve late by then 😉 )

I feel he'll score against Chelsea but I just can't trust his motivation to play without seeing a couple of games.

Deeney a great placeholder too for a Burnley striker in GW4/5.

Lascelles under Bruce? He was a terrible buy when I got him mid way last season and he's less appealing now

Dont love him, but nailed and they will play a lot of 1-0 games where his cbi will come in handy. Dunk and cahill better

I like Dunk/Montoya but am on Ryan+Button combo and don't want double-up from BRI..

How’s this for a big 3 team? Went Auba over Kane. Unsure on 5.5 defender any advice?

          Pope
          Robertson / Digne / 5.5 / KWP
          Salah / Sterling / Moura / Pérez
          Auba / Wesley

          4.0 / Diop / Dendoncker / 4.5

I think you are exceeding the budget here?
