Scoutcast Episode 296 – Last of the Summer Wine

The Scoutcast is back with Joe, Az and Luke joined by original host Granville to mark a landmark moment in the show’s history.

At the 296 episode mark the Scoutcast has finally delivered more shows than long running British TV sitcom Last of the Summer Wine

This achievement had long been a goal of Granville and fellow original host and Fantasy Football Scout creator Mark Sutherns over the years.

Here Granville looks back at the show’s history, including its memorable early hat-tricks and features.

He also finds time to chat about the forthcoming campaign by revealing his ‘old school’ team. Meanwhile, Az is daring to be different once again with his ‘poetic’ ode to Sheffield United’s players. Luke is looking to be more ‘dullard’ this season by shackling his daredevil instincts. As for Joe, he thinks he’s created his usual boring and safe collection of players, only to be told by his co-hosts that he’s actually turned maverick.

Goalkeeper tactics also get an airing as does the huge array of potential mid priced stars in midfield and attack, who could be a gold mine of points this season. Well, in theory anyway.

Elsewhere, Luke looks at the best mid-term differential by joining Az in his love affair with promoted sides and Joe takes in the best teams in terms of clean sheets over August and early September.

Last of the Summer Wine has now been beaten but will our crew be dogged by some late summer whining at the end of Gameweek 1?

Hi lads, been away for a while but it's so good to be back.
Now which option do you fancy more?

    A) Sterling, Moura, Jota, Greenwood
    B) KDB, Dendoncker, Kane, Ings

Looks like this is my final RMT before it all kicks off. 0 ITB.

    Leno - (Button)
    Digne - Robertson - AWB - (Lundstram - Gibson)
    Sterling - Fraser - Perez - McGinn - (Demconkers)
    Kane (C) - Auba - Wood

RMT out of 10, and don't pull your punches!

Hi Skip - Having invited the doomsters and gloomsters to comment, I do have one or two concerns.

Kane(C) might deliver, but if Salah hauls as the overwhelming Captaincy choice, and with his high ownership, you could be playing catch-up until Christmas. I'm also not thrilled by Kane and Auba's fixtures, even thought they are quality strikers.

I also don't like Leno as your fire and forget Keeper (Arsenal will concede). Pickford is better at that price, but I would either find the extra £0.5M for a premium, or go cheaper with someone who will get save points and upgrade McGinn.

5/10 but credit for bravery and doing something different.

Always a possibility, but I think they'll have more pressing issues than moving on a 4.5 bench player.

    5. Andy'81
      • 6 Years
      4 years, 7 months ago

It's very doubtful that any of the 4.0 or 4.5 basement picks will lose value over the first 3-4 GW's.

    6. GreennRed
      • 12 Years
      4 years, 7 months ago

You can't get a decent forward option for 4.5m, arguably 6.0m won't get you a lot either.

4.5 striker will be a popular spot to upgrade when people get a good sense of certainty, therefore the higher the ownership the more chance of losing value and you don’t wanna be stuck with a 4.4 striker

If you are not expecting him to come off your bench go for lower ownership

    5. BoleynWin
      • 6 Years
      4 years, 7 months ago

There’s question marks on all of them, Laporte has a niggle, Walkers got Cancelo to compete with, Zinchenko has competition at LB. No-one knows who’s going to be the CB partnership, potentially Stones or Otamendi alongside Laporte. It’s an absolute minefield!

      Asking the same question myself.
We know the deal with Pep, he always rotate and mess with us
Thing is, at the start of the season there are usually less rotations, even with Pep.. Mendy injured, Angelino out of favor, so.. Zinchenko could get 3 games which could be great if you can spend a transfer on him when rotation comes

Holding is very good and was expected to partner Sokratis after hes recovered, our first choice back4 will be:

I'd like to address these vicious rumours about Seamus Coleman.

He is numero uno. Our captain. The talisman.

Sidibe doesn't make him a rotation risk...he is competition to make him up his game, which he will.

Why? Because hes a bonified legend, cost 60,000 & plays the Everton way.

Legends don’t need their club to buy competition just to ensure that they up their game. I think you’re looking at it with slight bias, no doubt he’s been immense for you throughout the years but he’s now 31 & not getting any quicker. That’s without even touching the injuries. If he starts 30 games this year I’ll eat my hat, bookmark it.

Too early to say. Unless Chelsea put Azpi at CB then should be ok for 2-4 GWs but when Rudiger returns then him or Christensen will make way.

Not worth the gamble imho especially as defence hasn't looked great pre-season.

Get the impression that the Bournemouth defence isn't set so I'd upgrade Ake

Well done to Daniel Levy, not taking crap from Dybala about image rights. Correct stance. They don't even need him.

Looks decent but not really fan of having few players who may not be certain to start several weeks (KPW, Zinchenko, Barkley).

    Just been contemplating doing,
Coleman > Mina, then see Everton are after Rojo.
Can they please stop signing defenders, I can’t afford Digne. 😆

I think I’m going to have to.
Just seen now that Brighton are getting another RB.
Going to have re-evaluate Montoya now. 🙁

Don’t over think it mate, Coleman and Montoya are both first choices. Stick to your picks.

To be seen. It is improbable that Yapi slides right into the starting 11 for GW1.

I think that Luiz to the Arsenal makes him a good option.
