Transfers

How the transfer deadline day deals could affect FPL

The Gameweek 1 countdown is on and late developments in the transfer market on Thursday could potentially shape Fantasy managers’ thinking going into this weekend and beyond.

Amid the carnival of yellow ties, made-up sightings and besieged television reporters, we have rounded up the confirmed deals that could present Fantasy bosses with new targets or have a negative impact on existing assets.

Any prices given in brackets are the players’ Fantasy Premier League cost, rather than their actual transfer fees.

09:00 – West Ham United have confirmed the signing of Swiss striker Albian Ajeti, who will reportedly cost the Hammers £8m.

The 22-year-old forward scored 15 goals in 35 games for Basel last season and has been capped seven times by his country.

Ajeti is expected to provide backup to Sebastien Haller (£7.5m) up front in east London.

11:00 – Newcastle United have completed the signing of Swedish defender Emil Krafth from Amiens for an undisclosed fee.

Krafth is a right-back by trade and his capture will likely have ramifications for Javier Manquillo and the injured DeAndre Yedlin (both £4.5m).

11:30 – Brighton and Hove Albion have completed the signing of French right-back Romaric Yapi from PSG.

The teenager is expected to link up with Brighton’s under-23 squad initially, so Martin Montoya (£4.5m) doesn’t appear to be under any initial threat.

14:15 – West Ham United’s Grady Diangana (£4.5m) has joined Championship side West Bromwich Albion on loan until the end of the season.

15:20 – Southampton confirm that Charlie Austin (£6.0m) has completed a permanent transfer to West Bromwich Albion for an undisclosed fee.

That reduces the competition for places among the Saints forwards, although Che Adams and Danny Ings (both £6.0m) were already well ahead of Austin in the pecking order.

15:30 – Watford have completed the club-record signing of Senegalese winger Ismaïla Sarr. Sarri predominantly plays on the right flank, which could impact on Will Hughes (£5.0m).

15:45 – Brighton and Hove Albion have signed central midfielder Aaron Mooy on a season-long loan deal. That potentially impact on Leandro Trossard’s (£6.0m) involvement at set-pieces?

15:55 – Inter Milan have finally announced the signing of Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku.

16:00 – Budget FPL forward Eddie Nketiah (£4.5m) has joined Leeds United on a season-long loan deal.

16:50 Andy Carroll has rejoined Newcastle United on an initial one-year deal. Carroll may well be back up to Joelinton (£6.0m) and Miguel Almirón (£6.0m), who have been playing up front in Steve Bruce’s new-look Newcastle team.

16:50 – Left-back Kieran Tierney has completed his long-awaited move from Celtic to Arsenal. Sead Kolasinac‘s (£5.5m) first-team prospects look fairly bleak as a result.

17:00 – Manchester City have signed Scott Carson on loan, while Josh Murphy has left Newcastle for Sheffield Wednesday on a season-long deal.

17:10 – Spurs have secured the season-long loan signing of Giovani Lo Celso, with an option to make the transfer permanent.

17:45 – Spurs have also brought in Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham. The 19-year-old defender-cum-winger has signed a contract with the club until 2025.

Sessegnon has played at both left-back and left-wing for the Cottagers, which gives Mauricio Pochettino plenty of options down that left flank.

17:50 – Burnley have signed Danny Drinkwater (£4.5m) on loan from Chelsea.

The former Leicester midfielder will stay at Turf Moor until January.

18:30 – Sheffield United have signed 22-year-old Dutch goalkeeper Michael Verrips from KV Mechelen.

Verrips is expected to play understudy to Dean Henderson (£4.5m).

19:00 – Sheffield United have signed midfielder Mohamed Besic on a season-long loan from Everton.

That could potentially have an impact on ‘out of position’ FPL defender John Lundstram (£4.0m).

19:05 – Leicester City have signed 25-year-old attacking midfielder Dennis Praet from Sampdoria.

Praet almost exclusively played in a central position for the Serie A club last season.

20:00David Luiz (£6.0m) has joined Arsenal on an £8m deal.

The departure of Luiz would seem to cement Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma (£5.0m) and Andreas Christensen‘s (£5.0m) places at centre-half for the time being, with Antonio Rudiger (£6.0m) still sidelined through injury.

21:00 – Wolves have completed the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Meritan Shabani.

The Germany youth international will initially join up with the under-23 side at Molineux.

21:20 – Everton have signed Alex Iwobi (£6.0m) on a five-year deal for a fee that could rise to £34m.

Marco Silva says he sees Iwobi as playing on the left flank or behind the striker – which could have implications for Bernard (£6.5m) and Gylfi Sigurdsson (£8.0m).

I think I'm settled until you all tell me I'm crazy. Rolling the dice a bit on my backline, but I have a goalkeeper/defender from the three top clubs.

Could pivot from Rashford to Aubameyang AND Mane or Sterling to Bernardo Silva, but I'm tempted to roll the dice on Rashford joining the upper echelon.

    Thoughts?

    Ederson (6.0) | Button (4.0)
    Van Dijk (6.5) | Walker-Peters (5.0) | Lundstrom (4.0) | Kelly (4.0) | Rico (4.0)
    Salah (12.5) | Sterling (12) | Mane (11.5) | Dendoncker (4.5) | Romeu (4.5)
    Rashford (8.5) | Jota (6.5) | King (6.5)

      Are those 4m defenders starters?

One of them each week for now. Playing a 3-4-3 w/ one 4m defender and Dendoncker at 4.5m.

Ah, I might have misinterpreted your question. All three appear in line to start, at least when the season kicks off.

I don't think the 3x 4.0 is crazy, you only need one to start. Kelly looks set to start season (but may not have more than 1-2 games), and Rico/Lundstram is 50/50.

I don't get the Mane pick, given he's not starting, and if you go 3x 4.0 defenders you have to have at least four good midfielders. Currently you have two. Mane and one of the 4.5s gives you 16m to spend on two midfielders that will play and have a chance of scoring. You could have KDB and Barkley, or Fraser and Siggy etc.

You're sure he's not starting. I've seen reporting suggesting he is.

He is a risk - may make an appearance but no preseason. Maybe hold someone like KDB instead then could fairly easily switch to Mane later if want him

Mane is a huge mistake he not starting change him to Siggy then strengthen your defence.

Not sure if essential but I do expect him to do well again. Only thing is he may be more on the wing ( not necessarily an issue but may change things)

    Pope (Button)

    Ryan | (Button)
Van Dijk | Robertson | Zinchenko | (Kelly) | (Simpson)
    Salah | Sterling | Martial | Moura | Perez
    Jimenez | King | (Greenwood)

Probably need to shave 0.5 mil off somewhere to upgrade the GK.

        Also going with both.

Liverpool clean sheets look probably first few games and any sort of attacking returns from either of them is going to result in BPS also. For an extra 0.5 over VVD it's worth it.

Thoughts? Not going with any Spurs cover is alarming but here goes:

    Pope/ Heaton
    Robbo / Walker /Coleman / Dunk / Lundstrom
    Salah /Sterling / Zaha / Fraser / Dendoncker
    Vardy / Greenwood / Kean

Vardy as he's Leicester's main #9 and is on pens.
Kean for the differential factor. I think he can thrive in the Everton attack.

Personally surprised he made it at Championship level. When he was at the club I support he was dogshi.

Don't think he'll get many minutes at all at the top level.

    Which one?

    1) Ederson, Barkley
    2) Heaton, Haller (let's me get a 4.5 mid that could sub in if necessary)

For me it is potential impact of VAR affecting clean sheets - save points might be more of a factor, and the rotation can be as effective as set and forget. Also frees up potential city player space

    2. MaxiRobriguez
      • 8 Years
      4 years, 7 months ago

Because it's possible to start the season, when money is tight, with a 4.5/4.0 combo which doesn't look that bad. Having Ederson means 1.5m less elsewhere. Also you could have Zinchenko to cover Man City defence for .5 less who might get attacking returns.

Historically, rotating 2 x 4.5 million has been the best option.

4.5 defenders basically get the odd clean sheet.

4.5 keepers get the odd clean sheet + save points and bonus.

Premium keepers get fewer save points.

Premium keepers are less likely to rise in price.

    RMT (plus a question)

    Ederson | (Pope)
    Van Dijk | Digne | Walker-Peters | Dunk | (Kelly)
    Salah | Sterling | Sigurdsson | Trossard | (Dendoncker)
    Firmino | King | (Greenwood)

    Iwobi worth the risk?

    Sigurdsson out, Iwobi in and...
    - King for Martial
    OR
    - Greenwood for Jota
