The headline FPL team news from Thursday’s press conferences

There were nine Premier League manager press conferences held on Thursday ahead of the start of the 2019/20 campaign.

The headline team news came from Liverpool, where Jurgen Klopp provided fairly positive news on Sadio Mane (£11.5m) ahead of Friday’s encounter with Norwich City.

Klopp said:

Looks fit. Yesterday was his first session with the team. Yesterday now with the team first time, looks absolutely OK, in good spirits. Yes he’s an option, but we will see.

The Reds’ boss said of James Milner (£5.5m):

Millie trained yesterday with the team, 100%. He will be fine.

The Reds opponents have problems at centre-half, with stoppers Christoph Zimmermann and Timm Klose (£4.5m) sidelined for Gameweek 1.

Defensive midfielders Alex Tettey and Ibrahim Amadou (both £4.5m) are also unavailable for tomorrow’s encounter.

On the subject of newly promoted clubs, Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder revealed a clean bill of health at today’s presser.

Dean Smith only ruled out James Chester (£4.5m), meanwhile, as Villa prepare to take on Spurs.

Robbie Brady (£5.5m) looks set to miss out for Burnley against Southampton, whose manager Ralph Hasenhuttl didn’t disclose any injury concerns.

Gerard Deulofeu (£6.5m) was passed fit by Javi Gracia but Danny Welbeck (£6.0m) won’t be ready to feature against Brighton.

The Seagulls will be without Jose Izquierdo (£5.5m) and Yves Bissouma (£5.0m).

Mark Noble (£5.0m) hasn’t recovered from a dead leg in time to face Manchester City but Lukasz Fabianski (£5.0m) is fit to face the reigning champions.

We’ll have updates on Friday’s 11 press conferences in advance of the 19:00 BST deadline.

    1) Button
    2) Norris

    Button is the only 2nd choice keeper. May be useful in the unlikely scenario where ryan gets injured.
    He has high ownership which makes him prone to price drops. You will probably only be transferring him out in later gameweeks for a starting goalie, for the bench boost where button will probably have dropped by 0.2-0.3.
    Norris is the better choice as he has been loaned out so is immune to price drops.

        There will be no other 4.0 option, so the only scenario he is transfeted our is when people are moving to rotating keepers. But is still a risk

      A blanket claim that high ownership leads to quicker price drops is, generally speaking, a fallacy at this stage of the season.

    B) Robbo/Digne/Montoya and a 4.5 defender on the bench

    I'd like KDB in my side alongside Sterling, but just think Bilva + 1.5 allows upgrades that will likely exceed the points difference (if any) between the two City men:

    A) KDB, VVD, Jorgino
    B) Bilva, Robertson, McGinn + 0.5

    Which would you prefer?

    My thoughts are that Vardy has two good fixtures technically. He will be well rested and fired up whereas Wolves will be shattered from Europa and Chelsea will be tired from the Supercup. Also the thought of going against Zouma and Christensen shouldn’t be a tough ask for Vardy.

    Much talk about not getting high owned bench fodders like Greenwood and NON playing defs, as these risk to get sold heavily and loose money.

    There are lower limits for how low each part of the team can fall, anyone know?

    Based on what I Think I’ve seen:

    GK 3.8?

    Defs 3.8?

    Mids 4.3?

    Forwards 4.5?

      Can actually see Greenwood going up in price not down, looks like he is gonna get minutes under Ole, and it will only take 1 goal/assist for all the non owners to jump on him.

      Agree with the curse of Falcao. Greenwood will be making plenty of sun appearances and if rashford or martial get injured will get starts. Can’t ask for more for a 4.5 striker. Don’t think there will be any 4.0 goalies or defenders unless there are serious injuries so they could drop .2 eventually

    I’d like to start the season with Barkley like I’ve seen a few on here cos at 6 it would be a great enabler.... but what about mount? Do people not rate him or something?

    Personally I think Barkley will get the nod gw1.. being a big game and having more experience, but I see mount taking over after that. He will make that spot his is what I think.

    I’ll give them 2 games atleast... if Barkley’s on fire then great. If mount gets one start in the next two and plays well then I’ll be going with him.

    Moura has City on GW2...and Son coming back on GW3. Might be explosive on GW1, but why do nearly all prefer him over Siggy? One week punt? Or could Moura be nailed? Siggy has great fixtures, on pens, nailed etc.
