Team News

The headline FPL team news from Thursday’s press conferences

There were nine Premier League manager press conferences held on Thursday ahead of the start of the 2019/20 campaign.

The headline team news came from Liverpool, where Jurgen Klopp provided fairly positive news on Sadio Mane (£11.5m) ahead of Friday’s encounter with Norwich City.

Klopp said:

Looks fit. Yesterday was his first session with the team. Yesterday now with the team first time, looks absolutely OK, in good spirits. Yes he’s an option, but we will see.

The Reds’ boss said of James Milner (£5.5m):

Millie trained yesterday with the team, 100%. He will be fine.

The Reds opponents have problems at centre-half, with stoppers Christoph Zimmermann and Timm Klose (£4.5m) sidelined for Gameweek 1.

Defensive midfielders Alex Tettey and Ibrahim Amadou (both £4.5m) are also unavailable for tomorrow’s encounter.

On the subject of newly promoted clubs, Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder revealed a clean bill of health at today’s presser.

Dean Smith only ruled out James Chester (£4.5m), meanwhile, as Villa prepare to take on Spurs.

Robbie Brady (£5.5m) looks set to miss out for Burnley against Southampton, whose manager Ralph Hasenhuttl didn’t disclose any injury concerns.

Gerard Deulofeu (£6.5m) was passed fit by Javi Gracia but Danny Welbeck (£6.0m) won’t be ready to feature against Brighton.

The Seagulls will be without Jose Izquierdo (£5.5m) and Yves Bissouma (£5.0m).

Mark Noble (£5.0m) hasn’t recovered from a dead leg in time to face Manchester City but Lukasz Fabianski (£5.0m) is fit to face the reigning champions.

We’ll have updates on Friday’s 11 press conferences in advance of the 19:00 BST deadline.

Thoughts on my backline playing 4 most weeks.

    TAA/Robbi undecided / VVD / Digne / Montoya / Zouma

Considering swapping Zouma for a 4-4.5 til I see how Chelsea settle in.

For this team what should I do this GW

    Pickford Button

Van Dijk Wan-Bissaka Robertson Zouma Targett

    Salah Sterling Perez Tielemans Dendoncker

    Wilson Ings Wesley

    Wesley (tot) in a 3-4-3
    Dendoncker (lei) in a 3-5-2
    Zouma (mun) in a 4-4-2

    Any ideas would be welcomed

I prefer Guilbert from Villa. Has looked very good with some attacking returns. Not a fan of the Leicester double.

I won't go with Ings and Wesley together as they are both 6.0, making upgrade difficult if one of them fails or a 6.5/7.0 option emerges. I will go for a 6.5 striker (eg. from watford) or Kean. Can get the extra value from downgrading targett/ Pickford

Torn between Wilson and Moutinho (own Fraser) or Jiminez and 6m mid (Probably Grealish or Trossard).

    Digne 26%
    Coleman 3.5 %
Was there always such a disparity or fear of Aidibe made it worse?
Coleman becomes a diff or a really bad pick depending on your view I suppose
Can Coleman hold the place or at best there will be rotation?

No need for differentials now - get whichever you think scores the most points.

I think both are nailed but Coleman has slightly more game time risk

Digne blows Coleman out of the water in terms of chances created. He underperformed his xA which implies he had the capacity to vastly outscore him this season.

        K but when it means
        Digne and absolute fodder bench
        Or
Coleman and 4.5 playing defender younsay risk the fodder?

I think Coleman isn't as nailed, didn't Everton sign a new defender? I could be wrong. Digne is just more nailed and performs better imo.

Not seeing that many Felipe Andersons in teams posted here. What is the consensus? I have him in my team, but I'm getting a bit worried that I should go for Barkley instead.

He ought to be in more. Maybe too many people are freaked by GW1 and not looking longer term. From GW2 his fixtures are very tasty and if he gets an assist tomorrow there'll be a rush on him.

    2. markus808
      • 13 Years

I had him but changed my mind, also I guess Yarmolenko will do better this year. Felipe is not a proven asset, go with Sigurdson or someone with a proven track record, you will get someone from Chelsae for the same money, let's wait for few gameweeks and then see.

I think Chelsea offers most value picks this year, but the question is, do we already know who is going to start and do well for them, or should one wait for a few gameweeks?

    1. Andy_Social
      • 11 Years

It's a gamble. I'm not waiting. I'm confident enough that Pulisic and Abrahams will start, and I do think Barkley is worth the risk if you have cover on the bench.
