Three £4.0m defenders start in Saturday’s 3pm matches

Three £4.0m defenders have earned Gameweek 1 starts, two of them coming in the same match.

As predicted from our research of pre-season, John Lundstram (£4.0m) is deployed in the central midfield trio of Sheffield United, while Diego Rico (£4.0m) starts at left wing-back for Bournemouth.

The match at the Vitality Stadium also includes a Premier League debut for Cherries goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale (£4.5m) who appears to have won the hotly contested race to start between the sticks.

Fantasy managers backing Ryan Fraser (£7.5m), Callum Wilson (£8.0m) and Josh King (£6.5m) will be happy to see them on the team sheet.

Callum Robinson (£5.5m) starts up front for Sheffield United alongside David McGoldrick (£5.5m).

Meanwhile, Martin Kelly (£4.0m) features at centre-back alongside Scott Dann (£4.5m) for Crystal Palace.

The Eagles are still without Wilfried Zaha (£7.0m), who sitds on the bench. Christian Benteke (£6.0m) and Jordan Ayew (£5.0m) lead the attack.

There are few surprises for visitors Everton as Seamus Coleman (£5.5m) holds onto his right-back berth for now and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£6.0m) starts up front with Moise Kean (£7.0m) on the bench,.

Those unfamiliar with Graham Potter’s version of Pep Roulette were given a harsh introduction to it on Saturday afternoon.

After naming an unchanged 3-4-3 line-up for the last two pre-season friendlies, which included starts for Leandro Trossard (£6.0m) in the front trio, he has gone with 3-5-2 for the trip to Watford and benched the new Belgian signing.

Glenn Murray (£6.0m) and Jurgen Locadia (£5.5m) start in the front two while Pascal Groß (£6.5m) comes into central midfield alongside Davy Pröpper (£5.0m) and Dale Stephens (£4.5m).

Dan Burn (£4.5m) joins Lewis Dunk (£4.5m) and Shane Duffy (£5.0m) in the three-man defence while Solly March (£5.0m) and Martin Montoya (£4.5m) are the wing-backs.

Hosts Watford have gone with a 4-4-2 formation but Gerard Deulofeu (£6.5m), reclassified as a forward for 2019/20, has been named on the left wing of midfield.

Troy Deeney (£6.5m) and Andre Gray (£6.0m) lead the Hornets’ line.

Most of city’s (and sterlings) xg came after 70 minutes. Unlike Liverpool they didn’t take the foot off the pedal and took advantage of the opposition not being fully fit and ready for the season.

      They also weren’t up 4-0 after 40mins

I think this will be the pattern for the season. Once Liverpool are home and dry, it makes more sense for them to take their foot off the gas to prevent injuries, fatigue etc.

City have the depth, Pool do not. I expect City to give out more batterings for this very reason.

I'm not sure City's defense is good enough to take their foot off the gas either.

Liverpool’s defence weren’t much to behold yesterday. It’s the substitute depth that matters - good players coming on hungry

        It's Baldy's style.

It is his style but think part of their success was due to fatigue from west ham. It seemed to me that they could have used a few more substitutions.

Loads on here we’re dishing out advice that sterling and salah were too expensive / it’s about value.

It’s only week 1 so very early days but still it makes things very tricky already if you don’t have either (unless Kane and Auba both go big which could happen)

I didn’t say it was good but ‘worse possible’ is very dramatic when you haven’t factored in my other picks and the GW isn’t over.. also would prefer to compartmentalise the season into a number of GW’s/fixtures rather than individualise them

The inclusion of Lundstram is Sheff Utd adapting and acknowledging they've made a big step up and its naive to think they can continue to play exactly as they did last year without a transitional phase of adjusting

Wilder doesn't seem the naive type, he know they need to adapt to the step up. Seems like a level-headed guy, good on him.

Surprised to see our captain Hojbjerg on the bench. But I can see why.
When we play 3-4-3, it only allows a 2 man central midfield. We tried to play JwP and PEH in one XI, but it left the three centrebacks far too exposed. We missed that steel provided by Romeu. I though JwP was the one who would be sacrificed, but woah.

A nice setup, but the selection of Jack Stephens has me very worried, especially against the Burnley strikers, who excel in the air. Stephens is a liability in terms of winning a header in the box, completely allergic to it.

Ings as usual takes the central berth, with Adams and Redmond playing on either side. That is a devastating trio, Pope will need a masterclass to somehow keep a clean sheet.

      Come on you Saints!

I know it's only been one game but this isn't a player for a mid table club. He will score points all season. I think it would be naive to think you wouldn't own him at one point.

Don’t be a fool. If you’re that desperate then -4.

Need at least 3 games to work out what’s what

Fair enough. Would have to get rid of Kane which I am not keen on. It's either WC or maybe just no sterling for a while and watch his price hike up.

Horrible choice to go without if one game like this is enough to make you change your mind. I dont own but Ill definitely see how my team does for more than 1 single gameweek before I rip it up to get in 1 player.

I'm sure you can get Sterling with 2 transfers...WC is worth more than that.

He has Spurs next, no rush

When teams like Man City consistently smash 'good' teams like West Ham then it makes a mockery of those daft enough to complain when Barca or Madrid beat someone 5-0 away and say the league is crap. Premier League is so overrated its unbelievable

What I'm saying is both are as good as each other.
When Barca won 5-0 people say the league is crap. When man City win 5-0 no one says anything.
When a player like Coutinho struggles for Barca then no one says anything. If he'd struggle in the Premier league people say the league is too physical and too difficult for him. It's hilarious

It's like on TalkSport earlier they said 'Fornals will need time to adjust to the physical demands of 90 minutes in the Premier League'.. But he's been ripping it up against players like Pique, Ramos or Godin for example for 2 seasons. The English Live in a bubble

Tbf far more have struggled in the premier league after coming from la liga theb the other way round

Coutinhos not been good but he's still done a bit. Nowhere near the levels of soldado di Maria

If the La Liga was so good, it would have the viewing numbers of the PL.

Like it or not, we have the best managers, the most competitive teams and the best viewing numbers.

I thought you were one of the smart people to be fair. Spanish league is Spanish.. English league is English, which means everyone in Europe can relate pretty much, asutralians, Americans, Asians etc. The language. Among other things. Damn you're a little daft

Agree with this. Not a fan of la liga but don't get that poibt at all. So many factors not linked to quality contribute to viewership

                  Football is a visual sport.

But I do see what you mean, we have an arrogance and think we're superior. It's naive for sure. But I do think the competitive nature of the PL and the reach it has, makes it better than the La Liga.

It's more fun to watch than the Spanish league, it's as simple as it gets. Quality wise for the past 10 years or so Spain had been incredibly far ahead, although Liverpool spurs and city recently have been doing well and would fancy them to beat Barca/Madrid as it stands

Yes city and Barca both can smash a team but it's more about how often it'll happen in Spain. Until we see stats of how well the smaller teams do against the bigger ones and compare the two leagues it's probably easier for everyone to say it's the English league as we all follow it

So Trossard has great preseason and is benched- what is that all about! Wanted Barkley but thought let’s go Trossard as he is bound to play and wait and see on Barkley if he nails position over Mount. That’s fpl for you! Let’s hope scores off bench in second half against tiring Watford legs.....
