Kane supported by Moura and Lamela against Villa

Harry Kane (£11.0m) will be supported by Lucas Moura (£7.5m) and Erik Lamela (£6.0m) for Spurs’ Gameweek 1 clash with Aston Villa.

With Son Heung-min (£9.5m) suspended and Dele Alli (£8.5m) ruled out with a hamstring injury, there was an opportunity for cheaper midfield players to come in for Spurs.

Moura and Lamela have taken those opportunities and those who included them in their first squad of the season will be delighted.

Moura is currently in 11.2% of squads as the Brazilian was considered the most popular cheaper alternative to the expensive Kane.

Lamela is the real differential, snapped up by Scout legend Mark Sutherns for Gameweek 1, and owned by just 0.7% of Fantasy managers.

Christian Eriksen (£9.0m) is among the substitutes and it will be interesting to see which of the attacking players he replaces if he does come on.

Kyle Walker-Peters (£5.0m) gets a start at right-back with Juan Foyth (£5.0m) suspended, although Serge Aurier (£5.0m) has recovered from his knock to feature on the bench.

Meanwhile, Dean Smith surprised Fantasy managers with some elements of his team selection.

Despite Matt Targett (£4.5m) and Frederic Guilbert (£4.5m) playing extensively at left and right full-back respectively in pre-season, neither were in the starting line-up.

The former was named on the bench while Guilbert was not in the matchday squad at all.

Furthermore, Jota (£6.0m) also impressed during the summer but is named among the substitutes while Anwar El Ghazi (£5.5m) and Trezeguet (£5.5m) start either side of Wesley (£6.0m)

Spurs XI: Lloris; Rose, Sánchez, Alderweireld, Walker-Peters; Ndombele, Sissoko, Winks; Lamela, Lucas; Kane.

Aston Villa XI: Heaton; N Taylor, Mings, Engels, El Mohamady; Grealish, McGinn, Hourihane; El Ghazi, Wesley, Trezeguet.

Sissoko is terrible. Why is he given such an attacking role?

Surely better to leave him back to defend the counter attack and to press the opposition where is workrate would be more useful.

Why on earth haven't the broadcasters got any VAR on screen graphics together for this season.... an obvious thing to do to link up the VAR alerts with an on screen icon or traffic light rather than waiting on doddering commentators to eventually let us know whats up by looking at the scoreboard in the ground.

Reminds me of Shearer when Bobby Robson arrived at Newcastle and told him to stop dropping deep and going out to the wing. He told him to stay up front and be side on when receiving the ball. Shearer started banging them in again after that.

I've just got home and checked the score, saw Villa was ahead so I then expected a stack of save points for Heato, but apparently it's Lloris who's been making the saves. How bad have Spurs been?
