Barkley and Mount both start as Pulisic drops to the bench

The final fixture of Gameweek 1 takes place at 16:30 BST as Manchester United welcome Chelsea to Old Trafford.

There weren’t too many shocks upon the release of the teamsheets but perhaps the headline news was that both Mason Mount (£6.0m) and Ross Barkley (£6.0m) – rather than one or the other – start together in Frank Lampard’s first Premier League starting XI as Chelsea manager.

Christian Pulisic (£7.5m) is the man to make way, with the USA international dropping to the bench.

Pedro (£7.0m) completes the trio of attacking midfielders lining up behind lone striker Tammy Abraham (£7.0m).

N’Golo Kante (£5.0m) is only fit enough for a place on the bench, while Willian (£7.0m) and Antonio Rudiger (£6.0m) miss out.

Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka (both £5.5m) are handed their competitive United debuts but Daniel James (£6.0m) is only a substitute.

Andreas Pereira (£5.0m) instead gets the nod and will line up in ‘the hole’, with Jesse Lingard (£6.5m) on the right flank and Marcus Rashford (£8.5m) stationed on the opposite wing.

An ‘out of position’ Anthony Martial (£7.5m) is reportedly set to lead the line.

Budget FPL forward Mason Greenwood (£4.5m) is on the bench, meanwhile.

Chelsea XI: Kepa, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Zouma, Emerson, Kovacic, Jorginho, Mount, Barkley, Pedro, Abraham.

Manchester United XI: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Shaw, Maguire, Lindelof, McTominay, Pereira, Pogba, Lingard, Rashford, Martial.

    Totally off topic, but just saw that Billy Sharp got 3 bonus points....and was only on the field for 8 minutes. That's got to be a record for fewest minutes played while getting max bonus, right?

    Anyone hopping on the Man United bandwagon should reconsider. Chelsea is honestly a terrible squad and their performance was even worse. They might get their things together and avoid relegation but they're honestly one of the worst sides in the league atm. Man United isn't even a good side, and if you're assuming all their players will perform well after today then it's foolish.

    Still though, there is something to be said about Rashford now that it looks like he's on penalties and he is playing well, but aside from that I would be cautious before making any 'rash' decisions. 🙂

        Yeah and that's fine, but we have to take into consideration that Chelsea is going through a dark stage right here, and the score today was to be expected. Any team expecting to finish in the top half of the table would have done the same.

      agreed - attack is decent, but their defence is not great... chelsea didn't provide much threat - but utd made sure chelsea had chances by giving them the ball

        Yeah, the United attack looked impressive, and we certainly learned a bit about their formation this season and their style of play as a unit, but I think they would have struggled if they played the same against a more threatening side.

        I don't think it is. They have a good defense and that's about it. Their midfield is a joke, their most expensive FPL players are £7m and they got trashed by an inexperienced Man United squad.

        I think they will struggle to get goals all year. It took a bit of work to crack their defense initially but once their pants were pulled down they were not pulled back up.

              Most commentators even said that they were the better side for most of the 1st half and I agree.

              Yeah of course it is a major issue that they crumbled completely in the 2nd half, but claiming that they will face relegation is a crazy statement to make after 1 game.

                Chelsea were terrible, at no point did they look better than Man U. I watched the enitre thing, in first half they still had no real threat and only Man U looked to attack. Chelsea were very bad, they will finish like 8th imo

          Mount wasn't bad, he was just settled. Can understand why he didn't want to take Mount off. Tbf, Mount played fairly well.

          What was wrong, was starting Barkley on the wing. Lamps decided he wanted an actual winger later on & it kind-of backfired.

          Barkley likely started because he'd been very good pre-season, and it'd be wrong to bench him. Likely either prefers Mount as #10, or trust Barkley more than Mount on the LW.

          Mount is obviously a Lampard favourite. Might make things tricky for Ross.
