Captain Poll

Salah and Sterling expected to battle for Gameweek 2 captaincy

Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) and Raheem Sterling (£12.0m) are expected to do battle for the Gameweek 2 captaincy.

The Egyptian was the overwhelming favourite for the armband in Gameweek 1 and rewarded his backers with a 12 point haul against Norwich.

However, Sterling went one better by netting a hat-trick and coming away from a 5-0 win over West Ham with a 20-point haul.

That big score is likely to inspire a host of Fantasy managers to captain the Englishman in Gameweek 2 as Spurs come to the Etihad Stadium.

Sterling was involved in 20 goals at home last season, 12 his own and eight assists, only Salah registering more involvements in front of his own fans (21).

Meanwhile, Spurs looked far from assured defensively as took their time to get into gear against Aston Villa in Gameweek 1.

However, Salah faces a trip to Southampton, a team he is more than capable of registering attacking involvement against.

Last season the Egpytian scored more goals away from home than any other player while Southampton kept just three clean sheets in front of their own fans.

Only Manchester United managed fewer than that in the whole of 2018/19 (two).

After registering a 13-point haul against Aston Villa, there is plenty of interest in Harry Kane (£11.0m).

However, it seems unlikely that many will back him for the captaincy considering it’s a trip to Manchester City up next.

More likely to trouble the favourites as a differential option is Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m).

He scored the only goal in Arsenal’s 1-0 win at Newcastle and faces a Gameweek 2 Saturday lunch-time meeting with Burnley.

You can now vote in the Gameweek 2 captain poll either below or in the website’s side-bar.

Joe and David will be discussing the captaincy on our YouTube channel at 12:30 pm on Monday afternoon too.

I have Siggy and Im not that happy, Everton didnt play well as expected imo.
United goals seems good but there was 1 scared young chelsea team second half. Im not sure United are that good.

Are people seriously consdering Rashford? Had one big chance, which he scored, while Chelsea's defense was falling apart. Other than that, pretty quiet (plus the penalty). Also, still a lot of uncertainty about how good United is this year.

Ofc penalty helps, but very much doubt he will take more than Pogba/Martial. I actually suspected Martial would be United's penalty taker this year: Pogba missed three in PL last season, and Martial has taken 6 penalties for United in his career, and missed only 1, so he has better conversion rate. Rashford took his first senior penalty against PSG in april. If Pogba misses another I would give penalties to martial (if I were OGS).

I am a United-fan, so no one will be more happy if Rashford has a brilliant season, but Rashford has had so many runs of several games without goals, that I need more convincing than one game.

I think that, if you have united in your team, you hold. I would neither invest nor double down at this point. I would like to see United play against a team that will actually defend and make United break them down. Let’s see how they do in a match that isn’t a track meet.

Yep. Have Martial myself, think he was (and is) best United fpl player. Away to Wolves next week will be very interesting. OGS didn't exactly do well against them last season, so we will hopefully get some (positive!) answers then.

Very good insight. Martial will be a different animal this season with Mata and Lukaku gone. Rashford's statistics aren't that convincing. I think Martial has more of an eye for goal and that is why Ole has selected him as his main striker.

Ouch on the frontline, but congrats on the 93.

Wood would drive me insane. He’s perpetually offsides.

Never saw Wesley before this weekend. He looked like a donkey against Spurs. Flopping and flailing around. Perpetually moaning.

King is what he is. Penalty taker. Occasional assist/goal from open play, but not much there.

Would probably rank them in that order for divestiture.

    Hi folks - two questions.

Without wanting any personal details is Mark Sutherns still involved in FFS? I assume he has taken a backseat from the public limelight but is still involved.

On a football related query - How did Pogba get on yesterday? I lumped him into the team as make-way into Eriksen if he stays at spurs or Son but if he can wrangle penalties back i'd be tempted to sit on him.

Pogba: discrete in the first half, much more active and inspired in the second one. His assist to Rash was a beauty, his run for James goal incisive.

Well, for me he was terrible. The highlights will show a couple of sweet through-balls, but overall his passing was sloppy and he was getting knocked off the ball too easily. Playing within himself, 60% of his capacity. Maybe has half a mind on a Euro transfer?

I thought his second half was really good. The first one was quite awful. Surely they will not sell him now that they haven’t bought a replacement for him.

I agree, he was mostly terrible on the ball, sloppy passing, losing possession. His 2 assists were great but somewhat over inflates his performance

According to Companies House, Mark Sutherns resigned as a Director of FFS in January 2019. He still appears to be the majority shareholder however.

Re Pogba - didn't look amazing for owners long-term - looks like will be playing deep and no longer on pens. Martial looks better potential and is cheaper.

Not sure I agree on the Pogba vs Martial debate. True that Pogs plays further from the box, but he still managed to be much more of a threat. It really depends on Martial and his capacity to build up confidence and a WILL to seriously hurt the opposition. I haven’t seen that yesterday.

Also, do we expect Alexis Sanchez to never be back at some level? Even at 70% he’s way better than Martial.

Fair enough re Martial and time will tell on him, but either way I don't see Pogba is worth his FPL price playing deep and not on pens. I'd look elsewhere if Martial doesn't float your boat.

Pogba looks good but he is playing quite deep and not playing behind the striker. Since he is still extremely talented and can still get assists through long balls or running forward etc but he is playing further back, so wouldn't expect a performance similar to the run when Ole first started unless his position changes.

Pogba didn’t look like his mind/heart were in it for large portions of the match. As I recall he was a bit sloppy on the ball and fell down a lot. Looked a bit heavy/plodding. With that said, he got himself on the scoresheet.

I think Pogba will remain the same like last season - unreliable, but you might regret to take him off. He was always a bit sloppy and that won't change, but he is making FFL points. He's not in my team so far and I'll watch him a few more games before I consider him - being aware that this might be a mistake

    Current team:
    Pope, McGovern
    Robertson, TAA, Digne, Lundstram (Rico)
    Salah, Sterling, Perez, Moura (Dendoncker)
    Wilson, Wood (Greenwood)
    1.5m itb

    Should I do:
    A) Rico to Zinchenko/Wan Bisakka/Emerson
    B) Wood to Pukki
    C) Save FT and do Wilson, Perez, Moura >> Pukki, Martial, Son next GW. (-4)

So there is a lot of talk about Kane for obvious reasons.

Given Sterling is essential and Salah will hit 40-50 extra points for clean sheets and goals from midfield...

What are people's thinking. He's hit 160-224 across 5 seasons or so, Salah 259-303 across 2. And Kane is 1.5m cheaper.

What's the justification of you don't own already? Own all three?

    1. The Seagulls and the Trawle…
      • 6 Years

It’s hard to have all 3 without losing team’s balance. Also, Aubameyang is the same price and has better fixtures from GW5 to 17. Maybe during this period Aubam + Kane will score more than Raheem + Salah.

I recorded 98 pts with a Kane Sterling and Salah (and 0.5 left in the bank)
I think you can have them all while keeping a good balance, especially now that we start seeing which mid-priced players are about to perform.

I've Salah and Sterling and decided for Auba instead of Kane simpy because of Kane's usual slow start into the seaso (it's August) and Auba's first two fixtures better than Kane. Will keep Auba at least for next game, but he has then Liv and Spurs, so consider replacing him from GW 3. Haven't decided yet what to do then. Would love to bring in Aguerro by then and will watch Kane a bit longer. I might regret that as much as ignoring him for GW1 though...
