Which budget FPL options caught the eye in Gameweek 1?

From John Lundstram (£4.0m) to Mason Greenwood (£4.5m) and everyone in between, there was almost as much pre-season discussion about budget Fantasy options as there was regarding premium assets.

Those heavy hitters excelled in Gameweek 1, with five of the six £10.0m+ Fantasy options all delivering returns for their owners.

Seven of the eight £8.0m+ Fantasy Premier League forwards who played this weekend banked at least one goal or assist, while the five £8.5m+ midfielders who started in Gameweek 1 all delivered too.

As Fantasy managers try to shoehorn as many expensive options into their squads, then, we need cut-price FPL assets more than ever.

With that in mind, we will assess the players in the bottom two price rungs of each position to see how they fared in the weekend just gone.

No idea if they've changed it now

Some of those price rises came from absolutely nowhere.

FPL stats had Martial and Rashford well below the 100 point mark.

    Absolutely knackered me for waiting

Seen a few comments about how we now need to be 'decisive' with transfers, when earlier in week we needed 'patience.'

I'm genuinely not sure it does. There is a balance I think. It used to be like that much more. Pick a team at start of season and have faith in those players. Over last few years the pace has changed. Rashford looks like a great example of a player that would have been good to jump on early this week.

Yes you need to gain team value but I need to see more before I get worried about not having rashford - he is a weird price point and I won’t lose sleep over his 0.1 rise.

In general patience is the key - being willing to hold players for a period even if they blank otherwise you are always chasing last weeks points and inevitably you start taking hits.

Well yeah, there is the team value part. There's also how he's now more difficult to get in now with that .1 rise. Will need to downgrade somewhere and then have odd amount ITB.

& why exactly were you waiting if it was so vital to you to take -4 bringing them in at the exact price.
Either you have patience & plan for 0.2 in price rise, or you are knee jerk trigger happy on Sunday night.
      You cant be both

Moura to Martial is a transfer I’d “like” to do.

The general consensus is wait as long as possible until making these transfers in case there is a transfer you “have” to do.

This is especially relevant when you have 5 players potentially playing midweek.

Prolly a blessing for you buddy. I wasn´t particularly impressed with Martial´s performance. I´ve WC´d and shipped him Fraser and Moura (and their 13pts) outta there for Zaha, Sterling and Almirón. I´m not impressed by United, they needed an incredible amount of luck. Oh yeah as an Arsenal supporter I have no qualms about downgrading Aubameyang to Lacazette.

We’re aware of some bugs when using #FPL in the app during GW1. We’re working to resolve these issues now and will release an updated version before GW2. Sorry for any inconvenience. In the meantime, you can use your mobile or desktop web browser if you’re experiencing problems.

People were making transfers and they weren't showing points deducted on the app, so some charlies reckoned they were getting free hits and made extra transfers.

I emailed their support team on the app points issue and they actually replied to me today which was surprising:

"We're sorry about the issue you've experienced with the points display.

There was an issue during the first half of Liverpool v Norwich that was resolved by the second half.

Some app users are still experiencing problems with their points display.

We've passed this on to the app developers and we're hoping this will be resolved as soon as possible.

Can you try uninstalling and reinstalling the app please?

If that doesn't work, each player's points can be viewed if you click 'list view' on the points page.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

The risers are off the front page, but I don't think that Origi figure has changed, nor the ones below. Can't tell if that means Origi is really on 61.5% and going nowhere, or if he's close to a rise. Still need further time.

NDombele played brilliant on the weekend, I’m happy to keep him in. Barnes also looked brilliant on the weekend and has really good fixtures apart from Liverpool in a couple of game weeks. But I definitely agree Pereira is a risk, they won 4-0 with him in the team so can see him staying in but he’ll hafto have a good game to keep his spot

      I'd wait

Buendia may yet be the one to be on. I was more impressed by Norwich as an attacking unit than Villa given what they were up against. He's likely to be central to what they do.

Don’t worry about it - Wilson could haul and Rashford blank this weekend and all will feel right with the world again

Could be saved. Martial better value at 7.6.

They had basically identical attacking stats last week. Martial had more penalty box touches even.

      Username checks out 😉

In all seriousness, 8.5m is a funny price point. You’ll be tempted by Lacazette or Vardy when they score and the captaincy material of Kane or Auba for 2.5m more.

lol, the game isn't just based to suit your team and your moves. You should of had a pair and gone for Rashford from the beginning instead of sticking to the template.

What? Why would yo go for Rashford vs Chelsea in GW1?

I wouldn't have, and still wont be getting him in either. One GW doesn't mean he's a great asset.

Didn't want to double up on any team aside from City and Liv and I went with Martial so that ruled out Rashford for me. Let's see your team then, maverick.

So if you have Martial, surely Wilson > Rashford is just based on his rising price or one game week score? Wilson could do well this week, and Rashford blank and all is well.

    Hey lads

Got back after a season of not having consistency.

Well, I've been looking at the trend that a majority of managers are choosing Digne as a Everton Def cover, completely neglecting the goal threat of the old but gold Coleman.

Any specific reason for this besides the bloke's age??

    1. Teror
      • 9 Years

Everton signed a backup left back. Digne has no competition.

Well after watching the palace game in GW1, one could argue, given his ownership, Coleman can be a differential, but yeah certainly a rotational risk.

Torn between him/min/ or upgrade to digne

Sidibe was bought who is a genuine competitor for RB spot.

      Perfect!
As for the Kane vs Auba debate. Arsenal looks like having more firepower, but mor likely to share that output too.
Both are good choices , and at some point (GW5 to 17) Auba + Kane could be a must, although sacrificing Salah/Sterling might not be easy.

      1. NULL-X-VOID

Honestly, I don't think so Kane+Auba at any point would lead to a balanced or even good team, because of the funds, you'd be depending heavily on them and you'd have to either drop Sterling or Salah and that could be bad
