How I’m approaching Gameweek 2 after solid start to the season

How good is it to have FPL back in our lives? Those summer weekends always felt like something was missing.

Most of us got off to a great start in Gameweek 1, but I have a feeling Gameweek 2 could bring us back down to earth with a bang.

I was very happy with my score of 82 last weekend until I checked my only head-to-head league, the most important mini-league of all, General vs Mrs. General.

After a year out from the game, she’s back and she means business this year. Raheem Sterling (£12.1m) captain, Ashley Barnes (£6.5m) upfront and Virgil van Dijk (£6.5m) at the back, not bad picking for someone who doesn’t watch any football.

88 points was enough to get her the three points in Gameweek 1 and she hasn’t stopped gloating about it. It’s been a long week.

There has been a lot of debate these past few days about whether we should be making transfers after just one Gameweek or saving one.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker was forced off with an injury against Norwich

It simply comes down to your team, I think. Only you can know what is right for your squad. Don’t bank just because others are saying it’s the best play.

If you’ve got players like Alisson Becker (£5.9m), Ross Barkley (£6.0m), Gerard Deulofeu (£6.5m) or any other player that didn’t start last weekend, don’t be afraid to act upon it early.

Anthony Martial (£7.6m) is one of the ‘most-wanted players’ this week for example and those who decide to bring him in ahead of Wolves (away) on Monday night could well be rewarded while those who wait will have to pay a higher price ahead of Gameweek 3 if he does deliver again.

Personally, I’m happy to wait on the Frenchman because I fancy Ryan Fraser (£7.5m) to get attacking points against Aston Villa. If he doesn’t, it will be a relatively easy switch for Gameweek 3.

Talking about Bournemouth assets, Callum Wilson (£8.0m) was forgiven for the pain he caused last season but I’m yet to experience what it feels like to own him when he scores a goal. If he doesn’t find the back of the net against Villa, he may have to go forever.

We’ve only had one Gameweek in 2019/20 and the General is already at odds with Callum Wilson… again!

The captaincy decision this weekend is not straightforward now after Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) completed 120 minutes in Istanbul on Wednesday night ahead of Saturday’s trip to the St. Mary’s Stadium.

Liverpool could be fatigued after that trip and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Salah subbed early if the Reds have the game wrapped up after 60/70 minutes.

The hope is that Salah is the guy who wrapped the game up for them with a big score!

Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) are viable options this weekend too. I’m still on Salah for the armband but I’m wavering a little bit after Wednesday night. It could end up on Sterling by the time Saturday rolls around. We’ll have to see.

Fantasy managers are expected to be falling over each other to sign Harry Kane very soon

Those of us who don’t own Harry Kane (£11.0m) may well be ripping up our teams to fit him in soon. The question is, can we do it alongside Salah and Sterling?

Downgrades will be required elsewhere, and we need a few budget-friendly gems to emerge. If he delivers against City in Gameweek 2, Kane’s ownership will soar ahead of Gameweek 3.

He’s certainly in my thoughts and he’s part of the reason I’m saving a transfer this week. A mini-Wildcard could be on the cards next week for a bit of a reshuffle.

Lessons learned from Gameweek 1

Mark Noble is recovering from his calf injury,” Pellegrini said. “I think that next week he will work with the team.

“We also have small problems with Felipe Anderson and Sebastien Haller. They are recovering from the kicks that they had in the last game. That is the update on injuries.

“We’ll see tomorrow about Anderson and Haller, we have some doubts.”

West Ham have decent fixtures hoping they can offer some options for GW3. But if these two don't play might be hard to judge them.

We don’t have anyone else to play as lone striker, will have to be Antonio. At least Fornals should play. Yay.

Would love to see Antonio next to ajeti but I guess that won’t happen it will be Hernandez instead

Think it will just be Antonio with Hernandez on bench. Not seen anything of Ajeti myself but heard he’s a Hernandez type rather than a big lump?

Wouldn’t mind that as you say it nails fornals into the line up who I think is our best player. Ajeti is quite Aguero like in movement and shooting I am very excited for him if we ever get to see him play. Unreal goalscoring and assist record at only 22

Everyone's banging on about Martial: Martial, Martial, Martial, I want to buy Martial. Yet I'm a Martial owner and am quite nonplussed about him and really want Rashford. This game is so frustrating even when you're doing well.

I mean don't get me wrong I'm so glad that I went with my gut and picked Martial over Fraser but he looked quite average on Sunday (only watched the first half). And I suppose Rash tempted me because I had 0.5 in the bank and could easily transfer Wilson out but now I waited too long and have been priced out. Boo hoo.

Only way that would happen if it was an easy home fixture.

Worst case scenario I can see is Salah being brought off early, but only if Liverpool are winning comfortably. In which case he would probably be involved in the goals anyway.

Semi-rested. I can see him coming off after 59 mins, or, less likely coming off the bench. Either way, he could bag one point, which you don't want from your captain.

I’m enjoying having KDB, but a 4 way transfer involving him may be the only way I can feasibly get Kane.

I’m personally still not convinced, Kane wasn’t great (although did miss two earlier chances) and burgled some last minute goals.

He is too slow to be a significant threat to City away as City will be dominatingg the posession, only likely way he can score is through penalties or set pieces imo

Same dilemma here. Saving FT this GW and reassess GW3 whether Kane is better value than KDB, captaincies factored in. But really fancy Sterling + KDB douoble up for their run of fixtures, so one option is also to downgrade Salah to Mané.

Would you do Moura + Trossard -> Martial + McGinn?

Feels like I would be solving three issues at the same time:

Yes, if you read the reports leading up to the game week, Dyche did say Taylor was training with U23 due to recovering from a minor knock.

At least your Villa was in the squad. I went for Guilbert to rotate with Montoya.
I might just swap him for Mings just in case he drops price...

GTG? Thinking of saving my transfer as I am happy to play O'Connell (or Rico) this week over Deulofeu.

        Seems like best options are

Owning any Chelsea player at this point would not be an option for me.

I own Mcginn. Loads of value for his price and will be staying in my team for a while plus Villa have some really decent fixtures coming up.

Would be up to you to make the move.

Pretty similar to my team. I like to call it 'No Thinking FC" because you don't have any decisions to make.

          Ryan
Digne - Wan Biss - Robbo
          Mane - McGinn - Sterling - Siggy
          Wilson - Rashford - Pukki

          Button - Dunk - Dendonker - Lundstram.

Having said all that I am severely tempted to bring in Joelinton and Laporte for Wilson & Dunk but that gives me dilemmas which I don't want.

Got XX in GW1 with sterling non captain and XX from the bench but I’m strongly considering a wildcard after the next gameweek, am I crazy?

        Current team:
        Pope, Ryan
        Zinch, TAA, Digne, AMN, Kelly
Sterling, Siggy, Martial, Perez, F. Anderson
        Kane, King

        WC Team:
        Adrian, Button
        Digne, Zinch, AMN, Kelly, Rico
        Pepe, Sterling, Mane, Martial, Aden

I'd consider Pedro or Pulisic. But after their Wednesday game rotation is even more likely.

Don't want Moura. For GW2 thinking about Zaha. Hoping he starts and is motivated to remind how good he is.

he had a good game and pressed higher and harder than any of the front 4 which is why he was subbed on 60. he was rested vs liverpool, unless you think both him and mount were “dropped”, which isnt likely
