How newly-promoted players performed in Gameweek 1

A number of newly-promoted players caught our attention in the opening weekend of Fantasy Premier League action.

Norwich City were thrashed 4-1 at Liverpool but still caused their illustrious hosts plenty of problems.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa proved a stiff test for Spurs on Saturday evening while Sheffield United were the first of last season’s promoted clubs to earn a point in 2019/20.

We’ve gone over the numbers to see which of their players could provide some value this season.

As this article uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those who have signed up for the 2019/20 campaign can access it in full.

      Sterling for me.
      Not just because of the Salah midweek 120 mins in Turkey, but the fact Salah had Norwich at home in GW1 and Sterling got a much healthier return playing away. Spurs defence didn't look great last week either and City are too good at home.

      Also, I generally just go with the masses on Captain choices and miss out, so conscious to go with my gut a bit more this year.

    If someone gets a booking or red whilst a VAR penalty review is taking place, does it stand if the penalty eventually gets awarded?

      So ref gives the pen and cards the offender and the pen is overruled by VAR? The booking stands, the direct red is overturned. That's my understanding. Basically any yellow is not affected, even if it's a 2nd and off.

    Can we please stop the Salah scaremongering around here?

    Salah only started on the bench ONCE last season and that was in December in the second match when they played the 2nd, 5th and 8th of December.
    Furthermore he was only hooked before the 75th minute on 3 occasions - one of them being to an injury.

    In comparison Sterling was an unused sub on 4 occasions, started on the bench 3 times and got hooked before the 75th minute on 5 occasions.
    Auba started on the bench 6 times and got hooked before the 75th minute 7 times - not counting the times he wasn’t in the squad at all.

    I’m NOT saying Salah will be the best captaincy option this week per se, but all these benching and rotation comments are just nonsense really. Sterling and Auba should be at least as much at risk of managed minutes as Salah is.

      Agree. I've challenged a few people with how many times Salah has been benched for a 'rest' or a 'rotation' - the answer is pretty much never

      I think he might get subbed slightly early (70-80 mins) if Liverpool are winning comfortably - I think there's a 0.001% chance of him starting on the bench, though
