Aubameyang delivers as Ceballos offers potential in Arsenal win

Arsenal 2-1 Burnley

Goals: Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m) Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) | Ashley Barnes (£6.5m)

Assists: Dani Ceballos (£5.5m) x 2 | Dwight McNeil (£6.0m)

Bonus Points: Ceballos x 3 Lacazette x 2 Aubayemang x 1

Arsenal emerged victorious with a 2-1 victory over Burnley in their first home game of the Premier League season with Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) getting the goals.

Dani Ceballos (£5.5m), making his first Premier League start for the Gunners, put in a stellar performance, contributing two assists and collecting maximum bonus points.

In a man of the match display, the onloan Real Madrid man underlined his exciting potential to be a value for money route into the Arsenal attack this season.

He played a crucial role in the attacking play and also had a hand in the Gunners’ corners and free-kicks but also helped break up Burnley’s offensive efforts.

Dani Ceballos was comfortably Arsenal’s man of the match against Burnley

At a price of £5.5m and after such an impressive debut, it will be difficult for managers to ignore Ceballos who unquestionably has the ability to start for Arsenal on a weekly basis.

And given the void that has been vacated by Mesut Ozil’s (£7.4m) ongoing absence, Ceballos looks to have the confidence and ability to contribute assists that the Gunners’ have been crying out for in the Emery era.

Ashley Barnes (£6.5m) struck an early equaliser after Lacazette had put Arsenal in front, with the forward making it three goals in two games for the Clarets to stake his claim as an early frontrunner for the best budget forward in 2019/20.

Ashley Barnes and Dwight McNeil celebrate a goal for Burnley

Barnes took his goal well after a battling run and through ball from Dwight McNeil (£6.0m) rewarding the 3.9% of managers who had backed him to deliver against Arsenal.

Despite a nervous first-half performance that culminated in a booking for Aubameyang, the Gabonese forward scored a crucial goal for the Gunners after cutting in from the left, burying his well-struck shot past Nick Pope (£4.5m) to give Arsenal the lead.

Owned by 29% of managers, the performance of Aubameyang was relatively re-assuring given his well-taken goal, even if it was a long-time coming.

The premium forward was a peripheral figure in the first half, having been deployed on the right flank of attacking midfield.

Aubameyang was frustrating to watch for his Fantasy owners but he delivered a second goal in two against Burnley

It was not until the second period, when Nicolas Pépé (£9.5m) replaced Reiss Nelson (£5.5m), that Aubameyang really got going.

This substitution saw Aubameyang move to the left, with Pépé, making his home debut, taking up the right-wing station.

Emery’s decision to deploy the premium striker in both a left and right-sided role at various stages Saturday afternoon’s fixture will be an area of potential concern.

When we consider the assured positions of other premium options such as Harry Kane (£11.0) as a centre-forward, Raheem Sterling (£12.1) as a winger and Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) as a right-sided attacking midfielder, this is a level of consistency Aubameyang cannot really offer. That said, the Arsenal man still outscored all of those big names in Gameweek 2.

Despite his yellow-card for encroachment on a Burnley free-kick, Aubameyang picked up one bonus against Burnley, meaning he has a total of 12 points over two Gameweeks in 2019/20.

If Lacazette can continue his goalscoring form alongside occupying the central striking role for Arsenal, then the Frenchman is certainly worthy of monitoring with regards to attacking Arsenal coverage given his favourable price-tag at £1.5m less than his Gabonese counterpart.

Pépé’s introduction at half-time did not lead to any attacking returns for the £72m signing, but glimpses of his potential were on show at The Emirates. The former Lille striker will now be looking to nail down a starting berth and prove himself to Emery as a worthy candidate to feature alongside Aubayemang and Lacazette regularly.

Despite failing to record a second consecutive clean-sheet, Pope was exceptional at times for Burnley, making seven saves in total as well as a number of crucial blocks to prevent the scoreline developing into a mauling for the Clarets.

Nick Pope made seven saves against Arsenal

There remains indisputable value in both Pope and the likes of Matt Lowton (£4.5m) James Tarkowski (£5.0m) Ben Mee (£5.0m) and Erik Pieters (£4.5m) who have a favourable run of fixtures from Gameweeks 5 to 8 after navigating an away trip to Wolves before hosting Liverpool at Turf Moor.

The early momentum that Arsenal have now picked up after successive victories over Newcastle and Burnley is a stark contrast to Emery’s debut season with the Gunners, where successive defeats to Manchester City and Chelsea in Gameweeks 1 and 2 made for difficult reading.

If Emery and Arsenal can translate this promising initial form into continuous winning momentum, then there is no doubt that they have a number of primarily attacking assets who can deliver for Fantasy managers – namely Lacazette and Aubameyang.

But Saturday’s victory was both a day and performance that belonged to debutant Ceballos with his two assists and a Man of the Match performance.

I know, it was a joke (maybe). My original plan was to do Auba to Kane, but Auba could get nice points vs that Pool defense/Adrian, and Spurs (like he did last season).

Dunno. Depends if you're bothered about OR or just beating Bob and Jim from accounts...

If you're ten points ahead of Bob and twenty ahead of Jim then fill your boots...a -16 will be distant memory in two weeks time.

Take the -8. You might be surprised how many -8's work out ok. In percentage terms a -8 has about the same success rate as a -4....

      Keep an eye on Ward.

He’ll only offer cs but Palace are likely to be decent at the back especially when first choice cbs are in. Guaita is the class of the 5.0s and he and one first choice cb averaged 60% cs against non top 6 last season.

Interested for some feedback on this.

Watching MOTD, and have some thoughts on the mania surrounding Pukki rn.

Pukki’s goals were well taken today don’t get me wrong, and he’s a good goalscorer. However, he very much benefitted from an atrocious Newcastle side.

People pointing out that he scored at Anfield too. True, but I would counter that Liverpool have looked very uncharacteristically shaky at the back. They also likely switched off, having been 4-0 up at HT. Just takes a sec from a good goalscorer to pounce in that situation.

I’m still considering him, and it’s tough because his price is going through the roof, but could we be jumping on the bandwagon too soon? Mitro was off like a shot last year and faded fast. Despite prices rises, I’d like to see Pukki do this against some better teams than Newcastle and a switched off Liverpool - if he does, he’s in for sure though..

    1. Ask Yourself
      • 7 Years
      4 years, 8 months ago

If you watch him live you know he’s 20x the striker Mitro is in terms of FPL. His movement is unbelievable, the whole team is geared towards playing him in behind and defenders struggle to catch him. Will get around 4/5 shots per game no matter the oppo except maybe city as a result and his finishing is clinical.

But in terms of my points about the circumstances around his goals so far? Reading too much into it?

He’s deserved the goals he’s got. He’s a clever striker in a system that has catered to him beautifully ever since he’s been there. Norwich will score goals and he is the key to them scoring. Once they get figured out (teams discover how to track his and the wingers’ movement and avoid diving in to the creative midfielders as they wriggle away to play pukki in) then his output will drastically fall. It is smart stuff and I wouldn’t want to miss out much longer

Or once he doesn’t come up against Adrian and a shambolic Newcastle he may find things tougher...

But listen, I’m not going to say he looks anything other than very good (possibly excellent) FPL value

Can’t criticise anyone for signing him - he ticks a lot of the right FPL boxes

When Allison’s not on the pitch VVD is not the best centre back in the world unfortunately - and Adrian was at it again today

The Liverpool defence is average, maybe slightly above average at best with Adrian there

                Newcastle are a circus

Pukki has done well though - let’s see how things look in another week or two 🙂

He’s certainly smashing it from an FPL perspective - bizarrely he is dropping in price though

The thing to bear in mind with him is that he is absolutely, categorically GUARANTEED to regress in his FPL points scoring rate

He is averaging 76 goals a season at this rate, and he’ll possibly get a third, a quarter, or even a fifth of that - and still be considered a wild success in pure goal scoring terms

So I’m ok with waiting for another while - but no doubt he looks extremely interesting at the minute

Not sure it’s a great comparison given different positions, price points, teams, midfields teeing them up, fixtures etc...

Plus Sterling has previous of generating 30+ attacking returns in ~30 games worth of minutes in consecutive seasons

But yes, it’s fair to say Sterling won’t continue at 13 PPG this season... equally fair to say he’s got a great shot at 300 points 🙂

I did Wilson to Pukki tonight.

Saving my other FT to see what's happening with injuries.

I'll have to do -4 to go Fraser > KDB, but not decided how yet.

If he keeps banging them in for the next three games in Chelsea & City then fine, he'll still be worth the 7m or so he'll cost.

I see Siggy is doing a Siggy again this season

As soon as he’s sold, he’ll get a brace away to a top 6 side and sellers then buy him back just in time for another 3-4 blanks, repeat ad infinium

This. As an owner I'm scared to sell despite no signs of improvement just because I feel he has to haul eventually. Poor logic until I sell him and he bags a brace.

Yep. Which is why I’m likely gonna upgrade to Son/KDB once I decide on who I downgrade from Wilson, TAA etc for the funds.

      Cba!

I know people don't agree with my opinion on Hazard (FPL wise) but Siggy is Hazard-lite to me; patience is needed big time or just don't bother

    How's this draft chaps?

    Ryan
    VVD, AWB, Zinchenko, Lundstram
    Mane, Sterling, KDB, Son, Martial
    Pukki

    (Button, Kelly, Greenwood, Wickham)

    Cheers

It's funny how there is always a 5 ATB craze at the start of the season which lasts about 2 GWs before everyone realises they need to take all that money out of defence to get on the new bandwagons in attack

Yeah this. Was insanely frustrated watching first game as a wood owner the team is designed to create chances for Barnes and wood acts as the distraction. Tactics stayed the same vs arsenal glad I got rid

          ...based off 2 games?

Woods was smashing them in in preseason, Barnes wasn't doing anything.

Personally I'd stick. Unless you're switching to a different team's attack, it's a wasted transfer IMO

Barnes has been occupying the box in both gameweeks, while Wood acts like an attacking midfielder. Wood is a bigger threat on indirect FKs/corners, though.

I hate being 0.1 off so much.

    Arguments for Barnes over Pukki?

If I go ahead with Pukki then thoughts on Trent or Robertson to AWB? Other option is downgrading Zinchenko but none of these 5.0/4.5s are that appealing. Guess that one from Leicester is the best bet right?

People should be calm with their Liverpool defenders. Remember we you got two in the first place. 2 have already got attacking points. Cleansheets will come, they would have had one today if it wasn't for a moment of stupidity.
