Aubameyang delivers as Ceballos offers potential in Arsenal win

Arsenal 2-1 Burnley

Goals: Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m) Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) | Ashley Barnes (£6.5m)

Assists: Dani Ceballos (£5.5m) x 2 | Dwight McNeil (£6.0m)

Bonus Points: Ceballos x 3 Lacazette x 2 Aubayemang x 1

Arsenal emerged victorious with a 2-1 victory over Burnley in their first home game of the Premier League season with Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) getting the goals.

Dani Ceballos (£5.5m), making his first Premier League start for the Gunners, put in a stellar performance, contributing two assists and collecting maximum bonus points.

In a man of the match display, the onloan Real Madrid man underlined his exciting potential to be a value for money route into the Arsenal attack this season.

He played a crucial role in the attacking play and also had a hand in the Gunners’ corners and free-kicks but also helped break up Burnley’s offensive efforts.

Dani Ceballos was comfortably Arsenal’s man of the match against Burnley

At a price of £5.5m and after such an impressive debut, it will be difficult for managers to ignore Ceballos who unquestionably has the ability to start for Arsenal on a weekly basis.

And given the void that has been vacated by Mesut Ozil’s (£7.4m) ongoing absence, Ceballos looks to have the confidence and ability to contribute assists that the Gunners’ have been crying out for in the Emery era.

Ashley Barnes (£6.5m) struck an early equaliser after Lacazette had put Arsenal in front, with the forward making it three goals in two games for the Clarets to stake his claim as an early frontrunner for the best budget forward in 2019/20.

Ashley Barnes and Dwight McNeil celebrate a goal for Burnley

Barnes took his goal well after a battling run and through ball from Dwight McNeil (£6.0m) rewarding the 3.9% of managers who had backed him to deliver against Arsenal.

Despite a nervous first-half performance that culminated in a booking for Aubameyang, the Gabonese forward scored a crucial goal for the Gunners after cutting in from the left, burying his well-struck shot past Nick Pope (£4.5m) to give Arsenal the lead.

Owned by 29% of managers, the performance of Aubameyang was relatively re-assuring given his well-taken goal, even if it was a long-time coming.

The premium forward was a peripheral figure in the first half, having been deployed on the right flank of attacking midfield.

Aubameyang was frustrating to watch for his Fantasy owners but he delivered a second goal in two against Burnley

It was not until the second period, when Nicolas Pépé (£9.5m) replaced Reiss Nelson (£5.5m), that Aubameyang really got going.

This substitution saw Aubameyang move to the left, with Pépé, making his home debut, taking up the right-wing station.

Emery’s decision to deploy the premium striker in both a left and right-sided role at various stages Saturday afternoon’s fixture will be an area of potential concern.

When we consider the assured positions of other premium options such as Harry Kane (£11.0) as a centre-forward, Raheem Sterling (£12.1) as a winger and Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) as a right-sided attacking midfielder, this is a level of consistency Aubameyang cannot really offer. That said, the Arsenal man still outscored all of those big names in Gameweek 2.

Despite his yellow-card for encroachment on a Burnley free-kick, Aubameyang picked up one bonus against Burnley, meaning he has a total of 12 points over two Gameweeks in 2019/20.

If Lacazette can continue his goalscoring form alongside occupying the central striking role for Arsenal, then the Frenchman is certainly worthy of monitoring with regards to attacking Arsenal coverage given his favourable price-tag at £1.5m less than his Gabonese counterpart.

Pépé’s introduction at half-time did not lead to any attacking returns for the £72m signing, but glimpses of his potential were on show at The Emirates. The former Lille striker will now be looking to nail down a starting berth and prove himself to Emery as a worthy candidate to feature alongside Aubayemang and Lacazette regularly.

Despite failing to record a second consecutive clean-sheet, Pope was exceptional at times for Burnley, making seven saves in total as well as a number of crucial blocks to prevent the scoreline developing into a mauling for the Clarets.

Nick Pope made seven saves against Arsenal

There remains indisputable value in both Pope and the likes of Matt Lowton (£4.5m) James Tarkowski (£5.0m) Ben Mee (£5.0m) and Erik Pieters (£4.5m) who have a favourable run of fixtures from Gameweeks 5 to 8 after navigating an away trip to Wolves before hosting Liverpool at Turf Moor.

The early momentum that Arsenal have now picked up after successive victories over Newcastle and Burnley is a stark contrast to Emery’s debut season with the Gunners, where successive defeats to Manchester City and Chelsea in Gameweeks 1 and 2 made for difficult reading.

If Emery and Arsenal can translate this promising initial form into continuous winning momentum, then there is no doubt that they have a number of primarily attacking assets who can deliver for Fantasy managers – namely Lacazette and Aubameyang.

But Saturday’s victory was both a day and performance that belonged to debutant Ceballos with his two assists and a Man of the Match performance.

Blimey, I missed the first rise and thought that was post hat trick. Guess I'm on the bandwagon, see ya King. Wish I'd have been less sensible and done it this GW but keeping King vs Villa seemed like the smart move and despite points gap it still kind of was so don't regret it. Peeku now in but not sure how smart feels with his next few fixtures, guess Kings aren't much better so will see.

Would agree with this generally. No one is really nailed at Arsenal.

But I think he’s a decent bet to be a regular starter for the following reasons:

1.) Arsenal lacked creativity in the midfield last season. They basically relied on Auba & Laca moments of magic.

2.) Emery clearly thinks very little of the incumbent creative midfielder (ie, Özil). And Özil’s safety is under threat which isn’t ideal for peak performance. So there’s not a lot of competition for his place.

3.) His rotation risk is in matches against top 6 sides. Emery may want to deploy a 3-4-3 or a 4-3-3 with a stout midfield and ALP up top. Not saying he would miss all of these matches, but this is the risk. Emery could also deploy a 3-5-2/3-4-1-2 in these matches and Ceballos would likely feature in those formations.

4.) He came to North London for minutes so he could impress Zidane and, on the basis of today’s performance, it’s pretty clear that he intends to make the most of his loan.

5.) Today marked an extension of the good form that he showed over the summer.

6.) At 5.5, he’s well worth the risk as long as you have a nailed on first sub on the bench and the remainder of your XI are nailed.

Not gonna lie, I would trade one of my striker spots for another mid in a heartbeat.

McGinn, Ceballos, Cantwell, Dendoncker all look extremely good value. Sadly only space for 2 at most. Will probably roll with just 1 though and have a midfield of Salah, Sterling, KdB, Martial, XX

I did that too but still think MCGinn is a great long term choice at that price he played really well had a few decent shots could have had a goal and very smart quickly taken free kick which Grealish nearly scored from. Moura did not even start so looked like a good call on that basis too. McGinn looks nailed.

    Is Ings/Vardy/Fraser -> Kane/Pukki/Cantwell too crazy?

I liked the look of Norwich this week/last week but my gut isn't a fan of losing Vardy and Ings is still handy.

  11. 420king

    My team for next week:
    Ryan
    Digne Robertson VVD
    Sterling Salah Lucas Perez Trossard
    Deulofeu Wilson
    (Button Greenwood Balbuena Rico)
    2FT, 0.0 ITB

Lots of issues here. Deulofeu dropping in price, Wilson unfavorable fixtures, Digne knock while having nobody on the bench to cover...

Thinking Wilson->Pukki as one of my FT, but have no idea what to do about my other issues. Help!

      • 7 Years

Am probably in the minority, but I'm not a fan of a Wilson > Pukki transfer personally (unless you need to fund an upgrade). I might even prioritise switching Balbuena in your case, since you have no other starters on the bench.

      1. 420king
        • 9 Years
        4 years, 7 months ago

Thanks for your reply. I wasn't a fan of the Pukki transfer due to fixtures but Wilson's are even worse at this point. Balbuena is an option, but seems like a waste to use a FT on that as I plan to WC early anyway.

        1. Flaming Flamingo
          • 7 Years

Fair enough, I can definitely see the merit of moving Wilson on if you're looking to WC soon anyway. That said, I'd also want someone with better short-term fixtures than Pukki if going for a pre-wildcard punt.

Good luck whatever it is you decide 🙂

Feels scary going without Salah and I’ve always been his biggest advocate but I think I’m dropping him to bring in Sterling for the next 2 GW’s. Will probably have Salah back in with Wildcard/Newcastle at Anfield in GW5 but watching City these past 2 matches they are on another level. They can easily score 3-4 against the majority of clubs in the prem and Sterling really has improved on his conversion rate. Liverpool and Salah just don’t scare me as much as City do.

I'm thinking of doing the same. TAA too much risk of being rotated with Gomez for 7.0m and VVD looks better value than Robbo. Robbo only scored 5 points more than VVD last season so it looks better value to take VVD for 6.5m.

I read the thread when he tweeted it. And proceeded to be a smart ass and get in Wood. Serves me right.

Said I would definitely not WC early but tempted by these moves which would be -16 with just 1ft

    Robertson > Walker
    Fraser > KDB
    Perez > Son
    Salah > Mane
Wilson > Pukki ( already made this move)

    To give

    Heaton

    VVD Walker Digne Walker-Peters

    Sterling KDB Mane Son McGinn

    Pukki

    McGovern Lundstram Greenwood Wickham

What ye think? Would leave .4 for Pukki to Kean down the line if I wanted to.
Defence still decent and that mid looks great.

I am not for changing the overall structure or formation that much so
Is it that you don't like or the proposed moves. I should have clarified that.
        Thanks for reply.

You're taking a £3m gamble upgrading to Son hoping he and starts and hits the ground running. You cut that move out and the Salah -> Mane sideways move isn't needed. It's a 8 point gamble on Son pretty much. The other moves look grand

Major overreaction. Perez has great fixtures coming up. Watch today's game vs Chelsea and if he plays well you can leave him. Same with Salah.

I would only wildcard if you didn't have Sterling and had no easy way to get him.

So just find a way to get KdB and you're fine.

        Cheers.
KDB seem better that Son right now as the option if I just do Fraser to KDB for a hit later this week?
Son should start and good fixtures too but we can't be sure.
Would love to get both but the other moves are required. That why I even considered this.
Thanks for feedback will hold the WC

In the rules it says there is a variable factor to the time of changes this season, and from what we've seen the past week that looks to be true...

"Once the season has started, player prices may change by £0.1m a day, based on activity in the transfer market.
Both the formula used to calculate this change and the time of the change include variable factors, and won’t be revealed to game players."

Eriksen likely sold, better options for cheaper anyway
          Have never rated Alli
          Bernardo an okay option
          Maybe Deu at some point

Wow. A few people caught out if they've still got Deulo. Bilva no problem really as you wouldn't want to sell him now. Pukki train running away but I'm still holding off due to upcoming fixtures.

Hard to read- I don’t think their next opponents are that tough and Norwich very attacking side. It takes at least 2 maybe even 3 moves to get him in now
I’ve got King and Zouma as possible players I’m looking to move

Watching MOTD. KDB has to come in really. Just how to make Siggy into him
    A) Wilson > Pukki (or other 6.5)
    B) perez > mcginn
    C) robbo > 6.0

KdB has the form+better team+better fixtures.
Son has that uber differential status+potentially more explosive.

        Cheers, budgie!
