Aubameyang delivers as Ceballos offers potential in Arsenal win

Arsenal 2-1 Burnley

Goals: Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m) Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) | Ashley Barnes (£6.5m)

Assists: Dani Ceballos (£5.5m) x 2 | Dwight McNeil (£6.0m)

Bonus Points: Ceballos x 3 Lacazette x 2 Aubayemang x 1

Arsenal emerged victorious with a 2-1 victory over Burnley in their first home game of the Premier League season with Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) getting the goals.

Dani Ceballos (£5.5m), making his first Premier League start for the Gunners, put in a stellar performance, contributing two assists and collecting maximum bonus points.

In a man of the match display, the onloan Real Madrid man underlined his exciting potential to be a value for money route into the Arsenal attack this season.

He played a crucial role in the attacking play and also had a hand in the Gunners’ corners and free-kicks but also helped break up Burnley’s offensive efforts.

Dani Ceballos was comfortably Arsenal’s man of the match against Burnley

At a price of £5.5m and after such an impressive debut, it will be difficult for managers to ignore Ceballos who unquestionably has the ability to start for Arsenal on a weekly basis.

And given the void that has been vacated by Mesut Ozil’s (£7.4m) ongoing absence, Ceballos looks to have the confidence and ability to contribute assists that the Gunners’ have been crying out for in the Emery era.

Ashley Barnes (£6.5m) struck an early equaliser after Lacazette had put Arsenal in front, with the forward making it three goals in two games for the Clarets to stake his claim as an early frontrunner for the best budget forward in 2019/20.

Ashley Barnes and Dwight McNeil celebrate a goal for Burnley

Barnes took his goal well after a battling run and through ball from Dwight McNeil (£6.0m) rewarding the 3.9% of managers who had backed him to deliver against Arsenal.

Despite a nervous first-half performance that culminated in a booking for Aubameyang, the Gabonese forward scored a crucial goal for the Gunners after cutting in from the left, burying his well-struck shot past Nick Pope (£4.5m) to give Arsenal the lead.

Owned by 29% of managers, the performance of Aubameyang was relatively re-assuring given his well-taken goal, even if it was a long-time coming.

The premium forward was a peripheral figure in the first half, having been deployed on the right flank of attacking midfield.

Aubameyang was frustrating to watch for his Fantasy owners but he delivered a second goal in two against Burnley

It was not until the second period, when Nicolas Pépé (£9.5m) replaced Reiss Nelson (£5.5m), that Aubameyang really got going.

This substitution saw Aubameyang move to the left, with Pépé, making his home debut, taking up the right-wing station.

Emery’s decision to deploy the premium striker in both a left and right-sided role at various stages Saturday afternoon’s fixture will be an area of potential concern.

When we consider the assured positions of other premium options such as Harry Kane (£11.0) as a centre-forward, Raheem Sterling (£12.1) as a winger and Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) as a right-sided attacking midfielder, this is a level of consistency Aubameyang cannot really offer. That said, the Arsenal man still outscored all of those big names in Gameweek 2.

Despite his yellow-card for encroachment on a Burnley free-kick, Aubameyang picked up one bonus against Burnley, meaning he has a total of 12 points over two Gameweeks in 2019/20.

If Lacazette can continue his goalscoring form alongside occupying the central striking role for Arsenal, then the Frenchman is certainly worthy of monitoring with regards to attacking Arsenal coverage given his favourable price-tag at £1.5m less than his Gabonese counterpart.

Pépé’s introduction at half-time did not lead to any attacking returns for the £72m signing, but glimpses of his potential were on show at The Emirates. The former Lille striker will now be looking to nail down a starting berth and prove himself to Emery as a worthy candidate to feature alongside Aubayemang and Lacazette regularly.

Despite failing to record a second consecutive clean-sheet, Pope was exceptional at times for Burnley, making seven saves in total as well as a number of crucial blocks to prevent the scoreline developing into a mauling for the Clarets.

Nick Pope made seven saves against Arsenal

There remains indisputable value in both Pope and the likes of Matt Lowton (£4.5m) James Tarkowski (£5.0m) Ben Mee (£5.0m) and Erik Pieters (£4.5m) who have a favourable run of fixtures from Gameweeks 5 to 8 after navigating an away trip to Wolves before hosting Liverpool at Turf Moor.

The early momentum that Arsenal have now picked up after successive victories over Newcastle and Burnley is a stark contrast to Emery’s debut season with the Gunners, where successive defeats to Manchester City and Chelsea in Gameweeks 1 and 2 made for difficult reading.

If Emery and Arsenal can translate this promising initial form into continuous winning momentum, then there is no doubt that they have a number of primarily attacking assets who can deliver for Fantasy managers – namely Lacazette and Aubameyang.

But Saturday’s victory was both a day and performance that belonged to debutant Ceballos with his two assists and a Man of the Match performance.

Hey guys, from Australia so don't watch most games. Wanted to know how

Walker Peters, Zinchenko, Moura and King played overnight

KWP got tore up by Sterling
Zinchencko looked ropey and suffered cramps late on
Moura dangerous but an impact sub
      King idk

KWP was solid imo and handled Sterling well for the most part.

Zinchenko was found out defensively a few times but had a couple good shots at goal. May be injured now though with a late hamstring issue.

Moura was poor. Came on and scored a header after about 13 seconds but is a non-option now especially with Son back from next GW.

King needs to go. His is averaging a goal in open play every 400mins. Can’t rely on pens either - time for Pukki!

Foyth would have been destroyed by MCI

IMO, foyth is too slow to play LB in EPL- but that’s were Poch will decide to make me look foolish

He benches Moura and Erickson routinely for Lamela, so who knows

KWP like most Spurs played on the backfoot the whole game. Not much to be taken from it, he didn't make mistakes though.
Zinchenko looked good but had an injury scare late on so worth monitoring.
Moura looked lively when he came on but feeding off scraps, as City were dominating the entire match

    1. Zinchenko or AWB for a 5.5 mid? Already got De Bruyne & Sterling, no Man U cover

Am thinking of jettisoning Pool Def & Mid entirely to go a bit different in short term:

KDB, Son, Sterling, Martial, Pukki, Laca, Jota all lining up (with City Def + 4.5s rotating at the back).

You shouldn't wish injury on players, but a nice Pukki training injury will be welcome after all these early transfers.

Will wait for today's fixtures but I am seriously thinking of wildcarding.

    Pope/Heaton - set and forget.

Need to remove Robbo. VVD is enough LIV cover. Digne an injury doubt. Rico may need to go as well.

Mids: McGinn and Celebos look great value at 5.5. Son due back next week. Need to remove Moura.

Forwards: Vardy and Greenwood need to go. Pukki, Barnes? Keep King?

    Thoughts?

      GK:
Pope/Heaton rotate well but not convinced on how good they actually are as picks. Burnley look better than last season but not quite as solid as they were the season before. Pope does look decent value at 4.5m though. Heaton looks a bit kak as Villa look poor defensively.

      DEF:
      VVD: Agree
Digne: If fit, this guy is pretty much essential imo. Obviously has to go if out for a few weeks.
      Rico: Needs to go

      MID:
McGinn - Decent value I think but a lot his shots yesterday were speculative at best.
Ceballos - As an Arsenal supporter was very pleased with his performance but simply has too much competition to be nailed on. Xhaka, Torreira and Ozil will challenge him for minutes.
Moura - has to go with Son coming back

      FWD:
Vardy - 9.0 is not great value imo so agree
      Greenwood - has to go
Pukki - Get on the bandwagon before it leaves the station
Barnes - Great value but his next 2 fixtures are very tough (wol, LIV) so keep that in mind
King - Looking better value than Wilson and Fraser. A good pick at 6.5m.

Thank you Nabs - considerate and great reply 🙂

Defs: yes agree. Is there a 4.0 defender worth swapping Rico too though? Lundstram and Kelly could be under threat of starts from what I read on here. Perhaps a 4.5 would be a better bet?

Mids: That's an interesting amount about Celebos. I'd of thought he would be nailed after today? McGinn is a box to box player who is going to chip with the odd goal I suspect.
KDB and Son will be needed though so 5.5s make this happen. Son covers Kane who I am happy to go without.

Fwds: Yes agree with all you see here.

        Thanks again! 🙂

          No worries mate!

Wouldn't touch the 4.0 defs as they all looks very insecure picks. Leicester and Brighton 4.5m defs looks like they could be good picks to me.

Not many players are nailed under Emery. I'd be very surprised if he isn't rotated a fair bit but if he keeps playing like that, it's going to be very hard to drop him.
McGinn does look like chipping in here and there but the fact he only scored 5 goals in the championship is a bit concerning. Does have assist potential aswell though so still a good pick at 5.5m.

Regarding KDB and Son, I think Martial and Zaha will score very well for 2-2.5m less. So not sure we really need the 5.5s

            Okay good points.

Martial's gametime always bothers me. Seems to be in and out. Zaha isn't quite heavy enough for me.

Not sure he lives off gift pens. Last season was a poor year for him but the season prior to that he had a 50% goal involvement. Tend to think he is worth persevering with at this stage.

      1) Vardy has played once - how are you making that assessment?
      2) Digne may not be injured yet - wait for news
      3) Son may not start GW3
      4) Liverpool defence - Alisson is supposed to be out for "weeks" as of last week. Let's say that is 4 or 5. One week has passed, meaning 3-4 left. GW3 makes it 2-3. Then GW4 makes it 1-2 then there is a 2 week international break. Basically, ride it out for 2 GWs and Alisson will probably be back for GW5.

        Thank you BF.

Vardy: yes one game is not enough but the 6.5s look idea when I'm trying to fit Salah, Sterling, KGB and Son into one team.

Digne: yes, I am waiting for his news.

Son - has to be a starter next game.

Liverpud D: just feel like many others that double LIV D is one too many with Allison out.

        1. The Big Fella
          • 7 Years

I am holding on Robbo and TAA unless I hear news that Alisson is out for months. Obviously that's just me but they will get assists and the cleansheets will come.

Son I am not convinced will start. There is a lot of midfield competition there at the moment. I have no doubt that from GW4 he will be starting and he may well start GW3 but I just don't think it is a given.

          Digne - wise choice.

Do bring in high performers now i.e. Pukki though.

In answer to your above question, Hanley and Lundstrum are good options in the 4m bracket

I would wait for the international break for the WC

            • 14 Years

Yes, you are making a lot of sense. Robbo and VVD are 6.5-7m and will outperform a lot of mids and fwds at that price and above.

            Son - okay fair enough.

I have two frees so may go something like:

            Vardy -> Pukki
            Moura->KDB
            Perez->Celebos/McGinn

            Sound trades?

Thank you for the 4.0s. May swap Rico for Lundstram.

Seem sound to me as long as you wait until after tomorrow's match before making a decision as Perez and Vardy may have a party. Should you go ahead with them, I think Ceballos is the better choice BUT with the caveat that he is not as nailed as McGinn IMO.

Feels a bit OTT to be honest fella; assuming Rico and Greenwood are just bench fodder. Pick one playing keeper or just do Ryan/Button (that is true set and forget). Why not just do Pukki in, use Moura and / or Vardy if you have to. Wait till today’s games are done 🙂 at least
