Aubameyang delivers as Ceballos offers potential in Arsenal win

Arsenal 2-1 Burnley

Goals: Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m) Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) | Ashley Barnes (£6.5m)

Assists: Dani Ceballos (£5.5m) x 2 | Dwight McNeil (£6.0m)

Bonus Points: Ceballos x 3 Lacazette x 2 Aubayemang x 1

Arsenal emerged victorious with a 2-1 victory over Burnley in their first home game of the Premier League season with Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) getting the goals.

Dani Ceballos (£5.5m), making his first Premier League start for the Gunners, put in a stellar performance, contributing two assists and collecting maximum bonus points.

In a man of the match display, the onloan Real Madrid man underlined his exciting potential to be a value for money route into the Arsenal attack this season.

He played a crucial role in the attacking play and also had a hand in the Gunners’ corners and free-kicks but also helped break up Burnley’s offensive efforts.

Dani Ceballos was comfortably Arsenal’s man of the match against Burnley

At a price of £5.5m and after such an impressive debut, it will be difficult for managers to ignore Ceballos who unquestionably has the ability to start for Arsenal on a weekly basis.

And given the void that has been vacated by Mesut Ozil’s (£7.4m) ongoing absence, Ceballos looks to have the confidence and ability to contribute assists that the Gunners’ have been crying out for in the Emery era.

Ashley Barnes (£6.5m) struck an early equaliser after Lacazette had put Arsenal in front, with the forward making it three goals in two games for the Clarets to stake his claim as an early frontrunner for the best budget forward in 2019/20.

Ashley Barnes and Dwight McNeil celebrate a goal for Burnley

Barnes took his goal well after a battling run and through ball from Dwight McNeil (£6.0m) rewarding the 3.9% of managers who had backed him to deliver against Arsenal.

Despite a nervous first-half performance that culminated in a booking for Aubameyang, the Gabonese forward scored a crucial goal for the Gunners after cutting in from the left, burying his well-struck shot past Nick Pope (£4.5m) to give Arsenal the lead.

Owned by 29% of managers, the performance of Aubameyang was relatively re-assuring given his well-taken goal, even if it was a long-time coming.

The premium forward was a peripheral figure in the first half, having been deployed on the right flank of attacking midfield.

Aubameyang was frustrating to watch for his Fantasy owners but he delivered a second goal in two against Burnley

It was not until the second period, when Nicolas Pépé (£9.5m) replaced Reiss Nelson (£5.5m), that Aubameyang really got going.

This substitution saw Aubameyang move to the left, with Pépé, making his home debut, taking up the right-wing station.

Emery’s decision to deploy the premium striker in both a left and right-sided role at various stages Saturday afternoon’s fixture will be an area of potential concern.

When we consider the assured positions of other premium options such as Harry Kane (£11.0) as a centre-forward, Raheem Sterling (£12.1) as a winger and Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) as a right-sided attacking midfielder, this is a level of consistency Aubameyang cannot really offer. That said, the Arsenal man still outscored all of those big names in Gameweek 2.

Despite his yellow-card for encroachment on a Burnley free-kick, Aubameyang picked up one bonus against Burnley, meaning he has a total of 12 points over two Gameweeks in 2019/20.

If Lacazette can continue his goalscoring form alongside occupying the central striking role for Arsenal, then the Frenchman is certainly worthy of monitoring with regards to attacking Arsenal coverage given his favourable price-tag at £1.5m less than his Gabonese counterpart.

Pépé’s introduction at half-time did not lead to any attacking returns for the £72m signing, but glimpses of his potential were on show at The Emirates. The former Lille striker will now be looking to nail down a starting berth and prove himself to Emery as a worthy candidate to feature alongside Aubayemang and Lacazette regularly.

Despite failing to record a second consecutive clean-sheet, Pope was exceptional at times for Burnley, making seven saves in total as well as a number of crucial blocks to prevent the scoreline developing into a mauling for the Clarets.

Nick Pope made seven saves against Arsenal

There remains indisputable value in both Pope and the likes of Matt Lowton (£4.5m) James Tarkowski (£5.0m) Ben Mee (£5.0m) and Erik Pieters (£4.5m) who have a favourable run of fixtures from Gameweeks 5 to 8 after navigating an away trip to Wolves before hosting Liverpool at Turf Moor.

The early momentum that Arsenal have now picked up after successive victories over Newcastle and Burnley is a stark contrast to Emery’s debut season with the Gunners, where successive defeats to Manchester City and Chelsea in Gameweeks 1 and 2 made for difficult reading.

If Emery and Arsenal can translate this promising initial form into continuous winning momentum, then there is no doubt that they have a number of primarily attacking assets who can deliver for Fantasy managers – namely Lacazette and Aubameyang.

But Saturday’s victory was both a day and performance that belonged to debutant Ceballos with his two assists and a Man of the Match performance.

Don't think Salah can take a penalty if Mane wins it.

      There's quite a few options.

Pérez, Tielemans, Lanzini, Buendía, Trossard, McGinn, Robinson, Cantwell.

Hard to say which is the best option just yet.

Why so much hate for C Wilson in here.
2 assists in 2 games is still reasonable. Once he starts scoring it would be converted into brace and penalties.

I have Pukki and my 3rd forward.
        I am looking for differentials.
I like Mane more than Salah. Might do it with my 2 FT or wait.
Thinking long term is the way for this game.
Getting Kane, Salah, Sterling can have an impact on other 12 players of the team. Team balance is important too.

Correct on both counts. But I still think it's blindingly clear that as both an attacking unit and a player, Pukki beats the other mid-priced strikers.

I disagree on Pukki's fixtures. Aside from City, they look good. And if they play the same style in every game (as they did v Liverpool), they'll score in most games.

In his next 5: Che and MCI at home, Bur and CPA away. All tough games to score in.

Of course a player can score in any game, and if you've bought him in this week, then you'll see any set of fixtures as "good" fixtures.

But relatively, they don't look good to me.

                      + Everton.

It does depend on the attacking team though. If we were talking about Barnes or even Rashford, that list grows a lot longer.

Got Pukki last week but reckon Jota is still right up there. He has an insane goal involvement and Wolves are simply a better side than Norwich and will create more chances consistently long term.

You have to think why you got them in the first place.
Some people just got them in for 2 matches because they had a patronising attitude towards the promoted teams and assumed there were easy pickings. They turned out to be wrong, but as their original strategy was to get rid after those 2 games, they should stick to that.
On the other hand, if you thought those 2 and Fraser were worth having on their own merits, you want to ask yourself has anything really changed after just 2 games?

I would do the Salah vs Mane transfer.
I am thinking to do that on
1 FT left. Mane looked so good last night. Salah looked tired.
Either Salah to Mane or Fraser to Martial on 1 FT. Will wait till Monday and do that

At the moment, Pérez and Trossard. I'm selling one for KDB. Longer term I might sell the other for a big defender and get Cantwell. Otherwise I can see it being a constant revolving door

Trossard to Cantwell GW4, Perez to Pepe GW5 (if no injuries, of course)... Leaving me out of the price bracket. As said above, it looks to be a revolving door this season. Might downgrade Martial sometime later in the season if someone in this range goes crazy

I knew Wood was going down (what a pitty to pick him over Barnes from the get-go), but I had to take the drop on the chin with 3 players to go, an irresistible feeling to sack either TAA or Robertson and with Digne flagged.

What would you do with this?
    1 FT - 0.5 ITB

    Ryan (Button)
TAA - Robertson - Digne (Lundstram - Rico)

Currently have TAA and VVD and Siggy - contemplating the following (2 FT's)
    Siggy > KDB
    VVD > Walker/AWB/Emerson/AN Other

Any thoughts about the move in general, and then which defender (my other defenders are Zinchenko, Digne and Kelly)?

    I so nearly hit the WC button last night instead I took a -4. (Barkley,Fraser,Wilson > KDB,Cantwell,Pukki
Barring injuries the WC will stay in my pocket.

    Pope
    TAA,Digne, Zinchenko,KWP
    Salah,Sterling,KDB, Perez
    Pukki,Jota

    Heaton,Cantwell,Lundstrum, Greenwood 0.9m itb.
No Spurs or United attack is a concern but that would mean a WC.
Good enough to go without Kane,Son,Martial etc?

Looks very nice. Too much Salah of course 🙂

Think that if you're trying to balance it's probably either KdB or Man U attack at the mo. Very nearly went with Sterling Mane KdB Martial this week but that'd leave me with Dendo as a playing 5th mid - not a terrible option but the 4.5 mids are easily best sub options right now.

Thanks, yeh Salah would go on a WC, couldn’t justify removing him when I had the likes of Barkley and Fraser.
        I have KWP > AWB/Maguire earmarked later.
That’s an awesome midfield you have. I was toying with the idea of having both Cantwell and Dendonker. Rotating them both with Lundstrum for the last starting spot.
I’d only do this if I wanted a premium striker.

Sadly second week in a row I backed out of awesome midfield - went slightly safer instead. My two second choice teams would've me close to OR1 with around 200 points on board with a few to play - slightly frustrating. But happy to have Mane on board anyway

Why Lanzini over Ceballos ? Could use the 1m to keep Salah...

    6. pingissimus
      • 5 Years

Interesting. Not sure it's there yet.

I'd be having Martial over Son until we know what sort of form Son is inPosted his last eleven returns last night - they average 2.5 points. He's a clear wait and see for me.

      Surely Laporte over VVD anyway.

Think you'll be wishing you had a bit more money in defence quite soon. Also your subs. are horrid really. Kelly willl be out of a job soon. Bournemouth defence isn't worth 4.0 and Dunk won't be looking a great 4.5 option in a few weeks time imo. I'd lose Lanzini and get either Cantwell or Dendo - they're gold as 4.5s and that would leave you cash for defence back up anyway.

Off topic. Just renewed my membership although I usually fall behind on maintaining my team past Christmas, I appreciate the work that goes into the site. Although there's a price rise I was surprised to see the GBP is so low at the moment. USD is actually worth more than GBP in my country now due to USD shortage where just 10 years ago GBP was worth twice as much as USD. Is it expected to drop more?
Guess on the bright side it would be a great time to visit.

Morning dzzz, pretty stumped in terms of what moves I can make. Got 2ft but happy to take a hit

    Heaton — Pope
Taa Vvd Digne Zincheko — Rico
Salah Sterling Martial Perez — Docker
    Wilson King — Greenwood

    - I think I def need a spurs players for gw3 cpt plus they have plum gw5/7 fixtures so could be risky going without that

    - The only way I can get Kane is by dropping Salah...ie Salah/Wilson >> Kdb/Kane

    - I genuinely can’t see any other options
