Dugout Discussion

Barkley and Abraham benched as injured Chilwell misses out

Chelsea take on Leicester City in the second and final Premier League fixture to take place on Sunday.

Kick-off at Stamford Bridge is at 16:30 BST.

There has only been one goal scored in the last three league meetings between these two clubs: two stalemates sandwiching the Foxes’ 1-0 win in west London in December 2018.

The Chelsea starting XI shows only one change from the side that took on Liverpool in midweek, with Mason Mount (£6.0m) replacing Mateo Kovacic (£5.5m) in midfield.

That means there is again no place for Ross Barkley (£6.0m) or Tammy Abraham (£7.0m), who are among the substitutes.

Pedro (£7.0m) and Christian Pulisic (£7.5m) will flank Olivier Giroud (£7.0m) in the Blues’ attack, while Willian (£7.0m) makes the bench.

Ben Chilwell (£5.5m) won’t feature for the visitors this afternoon, with his place at left-back being taken by Christian Fuchs (£4.5m).

Chilwell misses out with a minor hip injury.

That is Brendan Rodgers’ only change to the side that drew 0-0 with Wolves in Gameweek 1, so Ayoze Perez (£6.5m) and James Maddison (£7.0m) will again support Jamie Vardy (£9.0m) in attack.

The Foxes are without a Premier League goal in three matches stretching back to April of last season, although have admittedly faced tricky opposition in the form of Wolves, Manchester City and Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea in that time.

Rodgers’ side managed only three shots from inside the box against a stubborn Wolves side last weekend.

They may get more joy out of a Chelsea backline that has shipped six goals in their two competitive matches in 2019/20, however.

Lampard’s troops also conceded on eight occasions in their final three pre-season friendlies.

The Blues look more promising going forward, however, having racked up 38 shots against Manchester United and Liverpool over the past week.

Chelsea XI (4-2-3-1): Kepa, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Zouma, Emerson, Kante, Jorginho, Pedro, Mount, Pulisic, Giroud.

Leicester City XI (4-3-3): Schmeichel, Ricardo, Evans, Soyuncu, Fuchs, Choudhury, Ndidi, Tielemans, Maddison, Perez, Vardy.

Lundstram is an average player who got lucky today. He is £4.0m for a reason. Maybe he should be £4.5m, but we are not talking about a player priced like AWB, Harry Kane, Dele Alli when they were first in the game. Those three were youngsters with potential. Lundstram is 25 and is a journeyman footballer.

Nobody thinks he will be. He's a 4m budget enabler that will sit firmly in 3rd spot on peoples benches for 80% of the season. If he keeps his place and gets 1 or 2 pts every week he serves his purpose. Very occasionally he'll move to 2nd or 1st on your bench, and probably 3-4 times during the season you'll actually start him because he's home to a poor team and your other options have terrible fixtures.

He's playing as a midfielder and getting in and around the box. Pretty great value at £4m, should probably be 5 if he plays every week.

Whatever we think, there'll be a massive Lundywagon setting off, causing a price rise of not tonight, tomorrow. I have 2FTs with no urgent business, so I can afford to do a hasty Rico>Lundy right now.

Well, after a week of toying with starting Lundstram over Perez and Moura resulted in him remaining firmly on my bench I can't think of anything better than watching 90 minutes of Ayoze Perez forget where the ball is.

Interesting. I have no problem playing a 4m defender if the situation calls for it. I feel like that’s why you try as best you can to have 14/15 players that actually play. The one off being your cheap keeper if you choose to go that way.

Well, you can, you'll just be subject to the whims of price movement. If you look at the players coming in and out as investments (like on the stock market) acting fast and decisively is always the way to go...just need to find the time to consider your options, quickly.

              Kane - Pukki

plus half decent defence. Kane to Aubameyang in a couple of weeks.

Away at Burnley looks like it could be a tricky fixture again unlike last season.
KDB and Rashford looks better than Salah and King to me.
Sterling is a good captain option every week so not sure Salah is worth his premium price.

Need to take the plunge and do Siggy > KDB tonight. Who makes way to finance it?

      A. Robbo > AWB (already have VVD)

      B. Digne > any 4.5 defender (maybe Dunk)?

          Depends whether Digne's injured/not

I would say A but I kinda wanna hold on to Robbo as I think he'll come good.

Root is so bad at captaincy lol

Everyone thinks he needs another catcher, he just gets so much wrong 🙂

Warner is having a shocker. Just like Jason Roy.

Think it is harsh on Root because there is noone in that team that is a test captain. They play so much one day cricket that they don't get much experience of 4 day / 5 day captaincy. He is probably the best pick, but needs a lot more help from the coaches IMO. Given the subs are coming on all the time I can't see why the sub can't drop Root a message from the coaching staff.

As long as you don't plan on playing Wickham ever.

With a million in the bank this could be the shifting of Perez to Pusilic if the game in the week reinforces any notion of how good this guy is.

Looking to get KDB in for Moura, to enable this do I do
        A) King --> Greenwood
        B) Auba ----> Rashford or Vardy
        C) Robertson -----> 5m defender
