Wilson and King reward owners’ patience as Bournemouth beat Villa

Goals: Douglas Luiz (£4.5m) | Harry Wilson (£6.0m) Josh King (£6.5m)

Assists: Jack Grealish (£6.0m) | Callum Wilson (£8.0m)

Bonus Points: El Mohamady x 3 Luiz x 2 H.Wilson/Grealish x 1

Bournemouth battled to a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon, leaving their hosts still winless on their return to the Premier League.

An early penalty was converted by Josh King (£6.5m) after Tom Heaton (£4.5m) had fouled Callum Wilson (£8.0m) in the box to put the Cherries 1-0 up, before Bournemouth debutant Harry Wilson (£6.0m) doubled their lead with an outstanding strike.

The Wilson and King combination is a well-known and lethal duo to Fantasy managers, and the two strikers did not disappoint on Saturday. For Wilson, the assist for King’s converted penalty means the striker has now recorded attacking returns in two consecutive matches.

And for King, his well-taken penalty will inevitably add to his confidence as Bournemouth bid to build on their unbeaten start to the 2019/20 campaign with promising fixtures from Gamweeks 4 to 7, though first, they must face reigning Champions Manchester City at Dean Court in Gameweek 3.

Harry Wilson scored his first goal for Bournemouth on Saturday

Eddie Howe’s side were buoyant and energetic in attack, yet this enthusiasm was poorly managed by central midfielder Philip Billing (£5.0m) who was lucky to remain on the pitch after a number of poor challenges and was consequently substituted by Howe at half-time.

For Villa, this was a disappointing result after their promising performance against Spurs last week.

Manager Dean Smith will be understandably frustrated that his side were able to deliver such a strong first-half performance in the capital but fall so short of the required standards in the opening 45 minutes at Villa Park.

There are a number of assets in Villa’s squad who have the potential to offer value in 2019/20, yet investing in a team who are yet to prove themselves in the top-flight and who remain winless is a difficult decision to justify even if there is a wealth of potential value-for-money options in midfield and defence.

It was a mixed afternoon for Douglas Luiz who was sloppy in possession in the first half but scored a wonder-goal in the second

Tyrone Mings (£4.5m) delivered another commanding performance at the heart of the host’s defence alongside Bjorn Engels (£4.5m), whilst a wonder strike from Douglas Luiz (£4.5m) was the highlight of Villa’s afternoon, a superb effort from outside the box to drag Smith’s side back into contention for a tense final 15 minutes in front of a boisterous home crowd.

An assist for Jack Grealish (£6.0m) will be pleasing returns for the 6% of managers who backed the Villa captain, and with a crucial run of fixtures on the horizon to ensure relegation does not become an immediate concern for the club, he is likely to feature prominently and could deliver further attacking returns.

John McGinn (£5.6m) was relentless in the middle of the park for Villa, but the Scotsman was unable to deliver successive attacking returns to build on his goal away at Spurs in Gameweek 1.

The abilities of McGinn and Grealish are certainly documented, yet whether either of these players can be considered a viable and reliable asset for Fantasy managers given Villa’s volatility in the opening Gamweeks of 2019/20 is a question that remains unanswered.

Grealish got his first attacking returns of the 2019/20 season

Villa’s club-record signing Wesley (£6.0m) had a difficult afternoon against Bournemouth, failing to fulfil his role as a capable target-man to hold up the ball and unleash Villa’s faster attacking options such as Anwar El Ghazi (£5.5m) and Trezeguet (£5.5m).

It is too early to make a firm judgement on Wesley after just two matches, but from the perspective of early impressions, the Brazilian is unlikely to be a player that is featuring prominently for Fantasy managers, especially given the value that could lie in Villa’s defence alongside the early attacking returns from Grealish and McGinn in midfield.

Villa’s next three games – Everton (home), Crystal Palace (away) and West Ham (home) – are of huge importance in their bid to have a successful season and prevent getting dragged into a relegation dogfight, and these will be games that are closely monitored by Fantasy managers in assessing whether Smith’s side represent a squad worthy of investment for the early stages of 2019/20.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth and Howe remain unbeaten and will look to build on their early successes and continue the integration of players such as Harry Wilson who could yet become a differential pick in Bournemouth’s already impressive attacking armoury.

Reflecting on the game for us, The Villa View’s Dan Bardell said:

A game where neither team really impressed defensively, meaning budget defenders from both sides came away with low scores.

We need to cut out the errors, goalscorer Luiz at £4.5m obviously bagged but I wouldn’t expect him to be scoring too many, he’s a pure a defensive midfielder.

McGinn and Trezeguet looked our liveliest players. McGinn is going to get somewhere between 7-10 goals this season in my opinion. He will play every week and he just suits the Premier League.

For Bournemouth, Harry Wilson looks a shout, especially with Brooks out. Scored from range yesterday and will probably take his share of dead balls. Fraser looked good as well but his price increase puts me off him.

Billing as a budget midfielder doesn’t look advisable, could have easily been sent off yesterday. Good player, but not for Fantasy football.

I'm seeing a lot of love for McGinn on here.

Mount seems to do better than McGinn and Trossard using the FFS player comparison tool. Mount also has great fixtures and plays for a stronger team. Why all the McGinn love?

Using the fixture ticker, Mount has a much better run of fixtures. Also, heat map shows that Mount is much more advanced than McGinn.

Abt their fixtures. 3 and 4 is great, but then it’s Wolves and Pool. So not great. Also, even if he did play 180 mins, he is only one bad game away from a benching imo

I had the ticker set at 8 games, so was looking at it from a medium term perspective. Granted the Pool and Wolves games are a bit tougher.

Regarding the benching, same can be said about any player right? I'm just going off two weeks worth of data. Mount's performances have been great. Not sure he will get dropped any time soon.

No he doesn’t. Villa have the better run when you set to attack no?

Seems perverse to switch from Barkley to Mount on basis of 2 matches saying one is nailed. Mount is not nailed yet.

Set it from GW3-10/11 and Chelsea have a much better run than Villa.

I take your point on Chelsea not yet being settled. However, on current stats (180 minutes played) he must be relatively safe. When you're talking about attacking players in the top 6 clubs there's always going to be some risk of rotation. However, the stats are pretty damning. Didn't feel comfortable doing it this year. In previous seasons I felt I had a good idea of how teams were gonna start the season but this year thought there was a lot of unknown quantities. Took a few punts with my GW1 team that haven't pulled off so pulled the WC pin.

I had Trossard for GW1 and missed out on his GW2 points. I included Trossard and Cebellos in my player comparisons and Mount still comes up on top.

I know. Tross has been a placeholder since preseason. Got exact funds for Son or with spare 0.1 for Pepe (price dropped) in GW4, when Trossard's fixtures turn. I knew he'd come good. Just wish he had started GW1 as well 😀

Mount came in for Perez with a hit for the Norwich game. It stinks of a possible haul for both Pukki and Mount

One thing I’ve learnt from the start of this season is that I’m definitely going to leave 0.5-1mil in the bank at the start of next.

Yeah, I think that's going to be my piece of advice when the questions are asked at the end of the season.

I saved 0.5m this year to ride out any rises for the players I really want. Just need to figure out who they are with my 2FTs.

Lots of options, probably too many.
I like my team, but feel I could get stuck with some of my players without having to make multiple transfers.

Pretty sure Poch won’t start him, but that’s just my thinking and may well be wrong.

Surely Son is one of the first name in the Spurs lineup when he's fit?
He was key to their success last season.

          You’re right.
I just think having Newcastle at home and the likes of Lamela and Moura playing well, that he will be eased in.
          Like I said though, imo...

Yeah think I have to find a way to get him in. Primarily because it's Newcastle next and they're awful. Don't want to miss the next Pukki style haul.

Not for me if you already have KDB.

I have KDB from the start too, and was thinking of KDB -> Son for free.

But with the form KDB currently has, let's assess Son first.

The fixture is tempting, but no idea how he will be integrated into the team, might be a bench cameo to build match fitness. Plus Spurs are unbeaten, why should Poch change it?

Having said that I do think he will play and want to get him, but I opted for KDB with my FT. Will wait a few games to see how Son does.

On -4 currently. Take another hit for Barkley to max 6.4/mount?
    Ryan Button
    Digne VVD Zinc Pieters Lundstram
    Salah Sterling Barkley Ceballos Dendo
    Kane King Pukki

    .4 ITB

Barkley to Mount seems rash especially with Super Cup match in between the 2 fixtures. You just can’t say Mount us nsiled at all. CHO is also on the horizon.

    Morning dzzz,

Confused as to which bandwagon to follow and which of these players could be important/rise in price quickly to own next few weeks

A: Pukki..good chance for it continue. Can get derailed against Chelsea but worried it will go into overdrive if he gets another return
    B: Rashford....martial can cover
C: Kane..no bandwagon as yet but coukd change after this gw. Best cpt shout imo
D: Lundstrum...transfers in should slow down from next gw unless he gets another return
E: Kdb...tempting option but not captainable. Son better at same price point?

If I had rank, it would be ACEBD

Lundstram's fixtures are appalling. Good bench option, but no rush to buy him.

KDB looks the best option to me. Also think Pukki and Norwich as a whole look great. Don't see Chelsea stopping them scoring.

There is no such thing as "cover" - players score points in fantasy for themselfs not teams.
There is a chance that Martial will be involved in goals scored by Rashford and vice versa but it dosent have to happen.
      Cover is a myth.

A/ Yes, are you worrield about Chelsk?...Nah!
      B/ Rashford only.
      C/ Son could cover imb.
D/ Wilder is being cautious in his approach to all Prem games, on all evidence, scuppering the argument that he will line up more attacking at home. Goldust.
E/ Of course Kev is Captain material, it's just a matter of timing.

    Already ditched Barkley for Ceballos.

    1FT left, should I...

    A) Perez to Cantwell (leaves 2million in the bank)
    B) Perez to Trossard (leaves 0.5m)
    C) Stick on Perez

I didn’t want Mount based on the fact I feel there could be a bit of rotation in the Chelsea mid.

For: form, central to a good attacking unit.

Cons: Chelsea may suddenly become tight, plays City in 3 weeks

It's only been 2 gws, I can understand the Perez kneejerks but Vardy is a proven FPL asset. You also selected him knowing that Leicester's fixtures aren't great for the first 7-8 gws but then turn gold.

Also by all accounts Leicester ran Chelsea ragged in the 2nd half at the Bridge yesterday and should have won.

At the least he's at full fitness and Im sure you have other fires to fight in your squad.

Spotted a weird rotation that looks pretty nice from GW6/7 -
    Söyüncü & Cantwell.

Cover each other's tougher games perfectly for ages, and you could start both in a lot of weeks if your team so requires.

    Wildcards, «Mini wildcards» and 2 ft’s....

After talking about patience in the space of gw1-2, it seems like everyone on ffs and Twitter are at the burstingpoint and can’t seem to wait to do multiple transfers.

But is it really necessary? Most people have players with good fixtures and are ready to load them off for bandwagond who do not (Pukki, Barnes, lundstram etca).

Sitting on 2 ft’s is such a «winning» position in fpl. Why not float on that cushion towards the int break? Seems to me one gets a leg up on «everybody else», without sacrificing much else than 0.1-0.2
