How to handle FPL bandwagons in early Gameweeks

The latest episode of the Scoutcast is about to start on our YouTube channel.

You can watch the show from 8pm to 9pm BST.

This week, Joe is joined by Az and David to discuss the key Fantasy Premier League talking points ahead of Gameweek 3.

The next round of action is an important one for Fantasy managers as many will be wielding their two free transfers.

Already bandwagons have begun to form, so our Scoutcasters will be discussing how best to approach these.

Naturally, Teemu Pukki (£6.7m) is a prime example after he scored a hat-trick in Gameweek 2.

However, we will also be examining Liverpool assets after a lacklustre start to the season at both ends of the pitch.

Laporte, AWB, Harry M, Martial either Montoya or Trossard on the block?

    Pope
    Virgil, Digne, KWP, Montoya
    Salah, Sterling, Trossard, Cebellos
    Pukki, Kane

    Button, Lundstram, Dendo, Greenwood

Say he gets 15-20 goals - a superb season for any striker newly promoted

That gives him 11-16 goals in next 36 games

Say he gets those in 10-15 games

      That’s 20-25 blanks in next 36

He’s likely going to start blanking soon

Or who knows, maybe he’ll score 25 and setup 10 or 15!

      1. Obi Wan Elokobi

This argument is terrible. So you're saying since he's already scored 4, he must stop scoring soon?
So what, if he wouldn't have scored anything, would you think it's more likely that he'll score more soon?

        1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
          • 14 Years
          4 years, 7 months ago

Not quite - of course if he does a Kevin Phillips and gets 30 goals then he could well continue scoring almost every game... but if he falls into the very upper end of what a newly promoted championship striker generally delivers (15-20 goals) then he has quite a few blanks coming up in his next 36... and with no Adrian or Newcastle in his next few fixtures it’s. It a huge stretch to see a few of those blanks kicking in shortly

          All it’s & buts

          And timing 😉

        That could be another 168 points from here...[16 x 8 (assuming 16 x 4+2+2 if he scores) + 20 x 2 if he blanks] ...I’d take that for a sub 7m striker...!!

        1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
          • 14 Years
          4 years, 7 months ago

He scored in GW1 & didn’t get 8 so 168 could be on the high side - and he could also get 200 points, or more... or less

      4. Il Papera
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member
        • 7 Years

If he plays the next 36 games, you’ve got 72 points. If he scores 10 more, you’ve got 40 points. Assuming he assists 5 goals, there’s another 15 points. If the bonus system is kind, you might get another 15 points from that. That would be 152 which is a good return. Take off 12 points for early subs and yellows and even 140 more points isn’t bad.

Sterling blanked a lot last season but still was essential.

        1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
          • 14 Years
          4 years, 7 months ago

Of course, you just have to be ok with him getting a lot of blanks, which he will in all likelihood - it’s not a huge stretch to see him blanking in 20-25 of his next 36, and still getting 140-ish in those 36

          It’s all about timing 😉

Solid defense which everyone on WC is neglecting. Wilson > Pukki, Fraser to KDB and make up the difference with one of the defenders. KDB looks essential, has form and the fixtures. Wait on adams, could ship him out for Barnes later on but not for a hit.

Do FPL need to re-classify the positions of Salah, Mane, Sterling etc to strikers?

Would it make it more enjoyable?

You could argue they are not out and out strikers but, for me anyway, not sure how others feel, the way things are currently I have no interest in the strikers this year.

    I would play 460 if i could

Big fan of Auba in real life, 2 games, 2 goals, yet "only" 12 points, 6 points a match, no bonus.

I know its only 2 games but when you have midfielders capable of 20 goals, 10 assists and 15 clean sheets a season why would you even look at mr goal a game Auba

Anyone elses enjoyment suffering cos of lack of choice striker wise compared to midfield?

    1. IRBOX ⚽
      • 7 Years

It’s a good point. I don’t think they need to be playing centre forward to be considered a forward. Would be a great move to have anyone the farthest forward in a 433 or 442 classified as a forward in FPL

    GK Pope or Adrian
DEF AWB, Walker Pieters, Soyuncu, Lunstrum, Kelly
MID Salah, Sterling, KDB, Martial, Cantwell
    FWD Kane, Pukey, Greenwood

Defence is fine fixture wise up to GW 8 where I think a Chelsea is needed and known who partners Rudiger.

If Salah looks close to a fall in price soon after deadline I could go Mane instead and have Digne/Mina over KWP

Leaves .3 in bank in case Pukey is not the chosen one and Kean kicks on at Everton.

    How I'm looking? Cheers
