How to handle FPL bandwagons in early Gameweeks

The latest episode of the Scoutcast is about to start on our YouTube channel.

You can watch the show from 8pm to 9pm BST.

This week, Joe is joined by Az and David to discuss the key Fantasy Premier League talking points ahead of Gameweek 3.

The next round of action is an important one for Fantasy managers as many will be wielding their two free transfers.

Already bandwagons have begun to form, so our Scoutcasters will be discussing how best to approach these.

Naturally, Teemu Pukki (£6.7m) is a prime example after he scored a hat-trick in Gameweek 2.

However, we will also be examining Liverpool assets after a lacklustre start to the season at both ends of the pitch.

    It's gotta be B, right?

    A) Mcginn - Chich - Kane
    B) Son - Pukki - Jota

      I think so.

Same thing happened last year, loads sold Salah and then he bagged a hatty v Bournemouth.

Mane over performed last year. Salahs the man IMO.

I disagree. Mané could easily have an even better season when it comes to goals I believe. That being said, I wouldn't spend a TF on Salah > Mané. Unless you activated your WC, stick with Salah.

Discussion on whether Son will start this weekend?

He should do but it would be harsh on Lamela and Moura, who have done ok. Have a feeling he could start from the bench and build up his match fitness.

He only starts up front if Spurs play 3 at the back. It's likely to be a 433, I'm guessing. Think it's 50/50 if he starts straight away.

Not with Newcastle at home. Thing he'll be eased in as a sub, but he could still profit given how poor Newcastle are

Son starts, he’s not injured, he’s just been banned.

Moura couldn’t even get in the team last week when Son was banned. So what hopes he got now sons back?

Sons vital to their best attacking style of play.

Reshaping my team based around this decision:

    A) Kane with Lundstrom/Dendonck rotating as 11th man

Almost identical to what I'm considering except you can afford Digne over Coleman.

I'm really struggling to tell if overloading the midfield like this is genius or crazy.

Pros: 5 big premium assets that could all score BIG any given week. Defense still extremely capable. Can move funds into attack within 2 moves if needed by downgrading Son or KDB.

Cons: Son might get limited minutes either from the start or bench given the competition he has. Bench has 2 non playing forwards. Big guns rather than finding value might be risky FPL usually always requires balance.

      I'm really torn.

Part of it for me is boredom mate, everyone captaining Salah every week etc. Fancy doing something different but no matter what team I pick I'm not happy. It's impossible to be, you go with Mane it means you miss out on Kane etc. Son does bear that risk but he is a cut above those players by distance. Spurs best player imo

        • 5 Years

Short term it could work. The big call is Son who could be anything from trash to hero. You can always shift him of it doesn't;t look good.

One way to look at it is that you're just a double transfer from a "normal" set up with Vardy or Rshford say up top.

It's actually way better imo than the WC template emerging with close to zero defence.

Adrian? Feels really short term with little likely pay off to me given how ropey he's been so far.

I'd go Henderson. Penalty king and Pope does seem to get injured more than he should. Would really like a second keeper as back up

            1. Twisted Saltergater

              Hey Pingi

I don't get this argument. Adrian isn't good enough to own, but VVD, TAA and Robbo are? Is the attacking threat really worth 2-2.5m more?

Also we say that a 4.5m GK that's involved in making saves is ideal for FPL. Given the Liverpool defence at the moment, that's what we have!

I have Pope as my second keeper so won't be wasting a transfer, and I do think Alison's injury is being underplayed by Liverpool.

It's the short term nature of the gig that puts me off. I'd have been all over him if I thought he was in for 6/7 games or so

You could be onto a winner if he's still there after the international break. You're one up on me and the 5 million others with Button anyway

Take Shaw down to a 4.5 and get a 6.5 up top. That would also get you Digne or Walker which feel better options. Fairly sure you end up winning on that one.

Brendan should clearly realise that out on the wing isn’t Perez’s best position.

Hope hope hope he isn’t benched this week as I’m probably gonna give him one last shot - do you think (if he starts) he’ll play out wide again, or (hopefully!) as more of a second/supporting striker to Vardy??

I’m really hoping for the latter!

I can see him being benched this weekend, he's not had a good start to his Leicester career in the opening 2 games, been very very average and don't think wing suits him either.

Boly honestly, at least longer term. Wolves are looking somewhat better at the back, and Boly is nailed and pretty good with BAPS (not sure on his goalthreat but may be alright from corners etc).

KWP comes second for me. Should be nailed just now, but likely won’t be when Aurier comes back. Maybe go for him if you want a short term punt, as Spurs have great fixtures.

Zouma last of the bunch imo. Despite Chelsea good fixtures, Zouma looked better at Everton tbh and Rudiger coming back should see Zouma drop to the bench.

Admittedly, I haven't watched United this season...but why are people losing their minds over AWB??!

United play Leicester and Arsenal in their next 5 fixtures whereas Zinchekos worst game is Everton.

Both good choices. I started the season with Zinch as was unsure on United defensively. Looks like they’re not too shabby. I’m sticking with Zinch just now, but if he loses his spot (or in the future if I feel the need to ditch one of Trent/Virgil) I’ll swap for AWB I think, who’s nailed and a BAPS magnet. Could chip in with the odd assist too but who knows

    Anything missing in (WC) :

    Pope Button
    AWB Maguire Walker Lundstram Montoya

Seems pretty good to go for first half of the season right? and options to tweak some every week. Dont want Spurs rotation anymore and confident in United CS's.

Pretty solid. I’m interested in United too, if one of my back four becomes unsettled it’ll almost def be for AWB/Maguire. However, I don’t think I’d want a double up even if you’re confident in their CS chances - I just don’t feel they have the attacking returns as well to warrant a double up as was the reasoning with Liverpool defenders. Walker should be nailed just now, but Cancelo always a threat perhaps, especially when other competitions come into play. Rest of the team looks pretty much the WC template (which is probably what you’d want) although I’d be tempted by mcginn over Ceballos due to fixtures and nailed-ness

Tough one. Team is fine for the most part, and if I had Vardy I’d be giving him at least another week. Only trouble is it’s then hard to see what moves you could make without downgrading him.

Could perhaps do Trent to AWB/Maguire and either King/Adams to Pukki and bank the spare £ for now?

Really want to board the Pukki and Martial trains. Is -8 too much for these 2, considering they are long term picks? Wilson and Perez -> Pukki and Martial (-8)?

Martial is a trap, don’t believe the hype.

    Looked poor against Wolves.

Don’t want to mess this team up just got him

    Digne Dunk VVD KWP

    Pukki Kane

Pretty much never do rage transfers, but if Perez is benched he’s straight out of my team (probably for McGinn if he looks good again).

Oh dear, is Perez going down tonight? Didn't expect that so soon.

Who would you downgrade him to:

    A) Ceballos (tough games, Ozil threat)
    B) McGinn (not a winger/#10)
    C) Jorginho (penalties & fixtures but nothing else)
    D) Other?

What do we reckon about Son and Rashford over Martial and Kane?

Son probs more attacking over Kane, gives the option for KDB if not returning. Rashford likely on pens now and probs not much in it in terms of points between him and martial. Also allows me to keep Robertson.

Son over Kane allows me a few upgrades across the team BUT Kane just seems more reliable and money in one place for easier premium swaps

        Yep

Kane is a fixed point in my team until he starts failing. Son back improves him on last season's evidence and he does just keep scoring - don't really mind how poor he might look sometimes.

The premium swaps is a big one for me. Having Kane last time enabled me to get to Kun and then Vardy in easy moves. At any one point there's going to be a premium forward to have. it worked out that way last time.

I can definitely see the argument. Prefer son to kane straight up but worried by rashford price, guess that's not an issue here. Go for it!
