How to handle FPL bandwagons in early Gameweeks

The latest episode of the Scoutcast is about to start on our YouTube channel.

You can watch the show from 8pm to 9pm BST.

This week, Joe is joined by Az and David to discuss the key Fantasy Premier League talking points ahead of Gameweek 3.

The next round of action is an important one for Fantasy managers as many will be wielding their two free transfers.

Already bandwagons have begun to form, so our Scoutcasters will be discussing how best to approach these.

Naturally, Teemu Pukki (£6.7m) is a prime example after he scored a hat-trick in Gameweek 2.

However, we will also be examining Liverpool assets after a lacklustre start to the season at both ends of the pitch.

On WC guys, so i've come up with two drafts that i favour so far.

Big fan of the 352 & 451 formations. Intent on not wanting Kane.

Which team would you opt for?

    TEAM 1

    Pope
    AWB - Soyuncu - Laporte
    Mane - Sterling - KDB - Martial - Mount
    Rashford - Pukki
    _________________________________
    Button: Lundstram, Dunk, Wickham

    TEAM 2

    Pope
    AWB - Coleman - Walker - Dunk
Mane -Sterling - KDB - Martial Son
    Pukki
    ________________________________
    Button:Lundstram, Greenwood, Wickham

Easy to downgrade any mid and upgrade forwards/defence etc.

Would be good to hear your comments chaps, thanks.
    Secretly prefer team 2.

      Not keen on Kane either.

Was going to go through what I did and didn't like about both teams but Jesus they both look v good. Making me want to wc haha. Not much in it as I like Son and Rashford just as much as either. Not keen on Mount in team 2 and walker isn't nailed imo.

      1. Salah’s Sonnet

Yeah i'm not too keen on Mount, just shoved him in there as a 6.0 riser for the time being that's all. Walker is bound to change as well, seems safe for now though.
Son & Rash look a good pairing, especialy with Rash favourably now on pens too.

That's why I'm saving my wildcard. When Kane or Aubameyang get going I don't want to do a team surgery.

It's the sacrifices everywhere else though for those types of players, where you have to show a lot of trust in them, whereas i like to spread the higher chances out with the mids.
As said though, i could easily get auba/kane without major surgery

451 historically has done well the last few seasons so a balanced team is good.

True but it's easily corrcted if needed from downgrading a mid, simple 🙂

          • 10 Years

Think downgrading Salah/Mane or Sterling for Kane or Aubameyang could be a mistake. You may need to do a -8 to avoid getting rid of them.

      Team 2 looks fun

With 2FTs it's flexible enough to get you most anywhere. Using up the 5th mid spot just seems a bit of a shame when the 4.5 mids look class bargain basement fodders when compared to the forwards.

    3. pingissimus
      • 5 Years

From the community article on undervalued players

"Another widely discussed topic is should we make transfers early or incur price increase/decrease and wait as close to deadline as possible. My regression can calculate the cost of waiting. The value of any additional 0.1 in team value diminishes from 1.7 points at the start of the season to 0 points at the end.

As an example, if there are 37 Gameweeks left, the cost of 0.1 increase in price can be calculated as 0.1 multiplied by incremental return of 1m (0.46) and multiplied by remaining Gameweeks (37). That would give us 0.1 x 0.46 x 37 = 1.7 points for every 0.1 increase in price. The cost of missing 0.2 price increase (3.4 points) is just below the cost of a hit (4 points)."

Hope that made sense to you 😉

I usually do early transfers, especially if its an exact money swap, eg. King to Pukki last week and Auba to Kane this week. Guess I just dont have the patience to wait until after all the pressers, which is likely a flaw in my game!

Some players I think that should be on more points:

    Sigurdsson (has created enough chances)
    Salah (shooting boots not on...yet)
    Emerson (created some great chances)
    Wilson (should have more assists)
McGinn (deserved a goal/assist last game)

    Anyone I'm missing?

      Solid points. But:

      Martial is playing more centrally
He gets an extra point for a goal

      Son off bench
Zinch swapped. No ones dropped at city as there is no nailed place except ederson
      Mata over both
      Perez plays
      I buy Jesus starting

There are two other City players Pep may decide that had a full preseason and deserve a rest before CL sets in 😉

      James will start

Looked injured towards end of last game and feel cancelo may get a run tbh.

James looked poor and Greenwood scored today in a behind the doors friendly. Wouldn't be too surprised

I don’t think he’s injured but wouldn’t be surprised with Zinchenko to be honest with Cancelo lurking.

James off the ball was immense he’ll play

I mentioned a couple of nights ago that I'm deighted I'm not on wildcard.this week
Not gloating as my squad is far from perfect but more I think they is so much choice....in other words so much uncertainty.
on, probably 2/3 weeks more , the picture will be clearer.

Oh, I've seen better squads than mine WC so I reckon there's a bit of herd/panic mentalallity going on.

Correcting mistakes early is key, but that's hindsight,
I went without Salah so that was my gamble.

Should I take a hit for Jota to Pukki?

    My Reasoning;
Wolves are playing Torino midweek in Italian, who is arguably a better team then wolves. Meaning Wolves will most likely be playing there best team. We saw what playing a midweek game did to Jota's performance in GW1.
Jota may lose 0.1 by Friday, whereas Pukki will most likely increase again by Friday. So making the transfer might give me a $0.2 advantage
I am happy with my def and mid but feel weak upfront. (Sterling, salah, KDB, Digne, Robb, Zinc), (Wilson & Jota)
Pukki has better Anytime scorer odds even thou his playing a better team for this GW.
Jota Has eve, CHE in gw4 and 5 but fixtures do get better after.

    Reasoning against,
It will be a 4 point hit
    Jota has slightly better fixtures
I have a strong feeling wolves will hit goalscoring form of last year.
If I WC early will Pukki be able to cover the 4 point hit?

Pukki is overachieving. Jota is underachieving. You put Jota in to start for a reason...at least wait until after midweek game?

Thank for the replies, I agrees i should at least wait for the midweek game and see how Jota looks. I guess just getting worried about the price changes. and Plus Jota is up against BUR, so it's a good fixture for him

At the moment i am pretty happy with my mid and more focusing on my fwds but to be honest, if was to make a transfer this week in the mid I would pick Mcginn, Martial and Mount over him at the moment. I just think Leicesters attach hasn't looked the best in the last two GWs. but I also expect them to pick up form soon.

I am on Kane, but just read this on The Fantasy Freak's Twitter:

Bournemouth are ranked 3rd worst in the xGc table (expected goals conceded), which is extremely telling because they will face far more potent attacks than the likes of Sheffield United’s and Villa’s that they have faced so far. With City ranked comfortably best for expected goals scored (and Sterling ranked highest for big chances of all players in the league), this could be a fixture where the likes of De Bruyne and Sterling look primed for points. With Sterling having an incredible record against Bournemouth and form to back it up he looks to be the best captaincy option on paper.

Have to ditch Martial on WC price catcher draft for Mane before he rises as none of other spots available and don't plan on keeping Martial
