How good are Pukki’s upcoming fixtures after hat-trick heroics?

Teemu Pukki (£6.8m) has already taken FPL by storm, scoring four goals in his first two Premier League matches.

Fantasy managers are flocking to sign the Norwich forward, with a third price rise of the season occurring overnight.

The hat-trick scored against Newcastle in Gameweek 2 sent the demand for Pukki into overdrive, but his new owners were clearly also impressed with his ability to score even at Anfield in Gameweek 1.

However, there are still some who are a little concerned about Norwich’s upcoming fixtures.

So we’ve analysed the numbers recorded so far this season to test whether or not Pukki is a sensible signing for Gameweek 3.

As this article uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those who have signed up for the 2019/20 season can access it in full.

Have Pukki’s underlying statistics been good?

Lessons learned from Gameweek 2

    Rate my possible WC team:

    Pope-(Ryan)
    AWB-Vvd-Digne-(Kelly-Lundstram)
    MANE-KDB-Sterling-Martial-D.LUIZ
    PUKKI-RASHFORD-(WICKHAM)

    vs. My current team:

    Pope-(Ryan)
    ROBBO-Vvd-Digne-(Lowton-Lundstram)
    SALAH-PEREZ-HUGHES-Sterling-Martial
    WILSON-KINGmuch-(GREENWOOD)

    Any feedback is much appreciated.

I've settled on close to this after much though.
One problem you have is Kelly/Wickham likely to not be getting many minutes, and you will be forced to play one of Lundstrum/Luiz every week (and poor bench in general).
To remedy that I found the money for an additonal starting player - City over Liv in defence, 1 gk not 2, Luiz to Mount.

I could Downgrade Rashford and get Lowton back in or a different 4.5 starter.

I think you should get spurs cover on a WC - maybe son instead of Mane?

Don't think i'm going for Son yet, still hasn't played a match so don't know what form he is in and not going without Pool attack.

His starts/minutes are a bit of a worry vs. Trossard who looks locked into a very fwd position

Not much talk of H Wilson here - another awesome player at Derby last season (sad to see him and Mount both go). I predict him into the Liverpool starting 11 next year - or sold to another top 6 club. Shame he's Welsh (think he could go all the way - nothing against the Welsh national team of course 😉 )

Which was picked up by post match and subsequent sound bites. Potter wanted to give the old players a chance to prove themselves before blooding new players. Trossard is a shoe in for that Brighton team.

    Heaton - Pope
    TAA - Mings - Montoya - Lundstram - M-Niles
    Martial - KDB - Sterling - Trossard - Ceballos
    Rashford - Kane - Andone

      No Liverpool.

I’ll switch back but for know I think spurs and united have better value (and lower ownership) that Liverpool. A gamble, but one I’m willing to take.

Have I lost the plot or is having both AWB and Maguire a sound move on a WC? Obviously Utd still not the most solid but there's some very gettable CS opportunities in the coming weeks, both offer some attacking threat as well, plus they fit within my budget.

    Pope
    VVD / Digne / AWB / Montoya
    Salah / Sterling / KDB / Perez
    Pukki / Jota

    Button // Wood / Dendoncker / Kelly

Who do you think I should be benching here? Thinking about it, I do not think it is unlikely that Southampton score vs. Brighton. Play Wood or Dendoncker over Montoya?

Acutely worried about another Jota 60 minute cameo, too - but Wood suffered the same fate last weekend.

If you dont like Spurs attack (Kane or Son) it’s very good.

I want Kane though so no Martial for me

I like it but I hate not owning Salah but it's a personal thing just rate him too highly to not have him in my team but I totally understand the logic behing Mane.

Think he is. Has played well, but certainly room for much improvement. Fancy a goal vs BHA.

0.3 off Aubam, Perez, Robinson to Pukki, Son, Martial for a - 4. Can fund it by losing Digne or Robertson but not sureee

I sold Digne this week so I think its possible (although wouldn't that leave you with a -8 hit, which I wouldn't recommend)

    Help please.

    A) Perez & Wilson > Pukki & Martial

    B) Perez, Wilson & Zouma > Pukki, Martial & Walker-Peters (-4 hit)

    C) Wilson, King & Zouma > Rashford, Pukki & Kelly (-4 hit)

I don’t get the Tony Martial love. Only three shots in the box and three shots on target in the first two gameweeks. Overperforming?

He's the starting striker for Manchester United, he gets an extra point for a goal and a clean sheet and is still under 8m despite scoring two goals in two matches, against Chelsea and Wolves. How do you not get it?

Yeah, I do not get the Martial love either.

If Rashford was playing CF then I may have considered bringing in Rashford. Playing out wide Rashford not looking all that either.

screw the stats, 7.5m for an oop playing up top for a team with top4 ambitions. Any more analysis is overthinking

Not denying he has been clinical the past two weeks. Just questioning whether he can maintain scoring goals at a rate when the underlying stats are not quite there.

Opposition wasn't the easiest to get plenty of chances either...

I am not the biggest fan of his but for that price, right now he is in my WC team, even if it just for the fixtures and apparent form

        2. @persecuted_by_mods
            4 years, 7 months ago

Won't face Chelsea and wolves every week. Chelsea game first of the season most teams looked disjointed, wolves away isn't easy for anyone

      2. Rhinos

And for all his faults Martial has always been a good finisher. He's being backed by OGS and man u don't have much back up. Absolute no brainer and I think it's an objective mistake not buying him

      3. Licious Lizard
        • 11 Years

I started with Martial, so there may be a bit confirmation bias.

I haven’t sat down and compared his stats of the 2 first games with his previous performances over the last couple of years. But I did check his stats before the season started. My impression from the stats I checked was than he is a very clinical finisher and has outperformed his xG consistently. His point per 90 has also been more than decent.
Now he is playing OOP as the main striker in a fairly attacking United side that looks like they have slightly improved. He is a confidence player and has scored 2 goals against 2 good teams (albeit Chelsea lacked something in the first game).

As has been mentioned he is nailed, has form, has fixtures, OOP, is kindly priced and will only rise in price.
He and United may drop off a cliff, as we have seen in the past, but I think he is a good pick all things considered.
