Why has Everton’s attack been so underwhelming so far this season?

Everton’s popular attacking assets have underwhelmed Fantasy Premier League managers so far this season.

After two matches, they have scored just once, only Crystal Palace finding the net fewer times than the Toffees at this stage.

Perhaps we should not be too surprised to see Marco Silva’s men struggle in front of goal at this stage.

During their pre-season campaign, they scored just three goals in seven matches, with Richarlison (£8.0m) the only key figure missing for most of it.

One was registered against Kenyan side Kariobangi Sharks, while Monaco and Mainz were the only other teams to concede against Everton.

The Toffees drew blanks in four of their summer friendlies, against FC Sion, Wigan Athletic, Sevilla and Werder Bremen.

Of those who found the back of the net, Joe Williams and Lewis Gibson are not first-team regulars, the former now a permanent Wigan player, while Seamus Coleman (£5.5m) is the only summer goal-scorer to have played in either Premier League match so far this season.

Accordingly, ahead of a Gameweek 3 trip to Aston Villa, Fantasy managers might be looking to move on their Everton attackers.

We have assessed the underlying statistics from their first two matches of the campaign to find out if the Toffees have simply been unlucky not to score more often, or if there are some tangible reasons for concern.

Someone talk me out of this?

    I'm considering going Ederson + three-way rotation between Pieters/Lundstram/Cantwell over Pope + Walk6/Zinchenko (Can't afford Laporte)

Ederson is essentially a City def who I'd start every week and yes he won't get those saves, but pretty much 6 points in the bag. Rotation of Pieters/Lund/Cantwell means I don't bench points(I'd assume) and I'd start players on their fixtures.

Yes Pope will rack up the saves but I can't see Burnley keeping cs in the coming run. Added the non nailed onness of Zinc/Walker.

    Thoughts?

Other than here, where else do you use to get accurate predicted line ups?

I love those that they do here but I wish they would update them earlier in the week.

Yeh I agree, I just wish they'd do a pre-presser draft with their usual comments saying what they predict and why and then update it after.

Kean will change this as soon as he starts getting 90 mins.

Hit the post / bar already a few times this season. Richarlison is a streaky player and is being relied on for finishing alongside DCL, who has the potential, but he's struggling to reach it. Quality in the site front to back. Siggursson should have 3 assists already if the golden chances had been converted.

Yeah, I mean DCL is clearly the issue here.

    Best route gw4 onwards...
    A. Haller
    B. Barnes (or Wood)
    C. Jota
    D. Keep King

The caveat is that A means a slightly weaker bench, whereas the rest leave money to upgrade say Dendoncker to McGinn/Ceballos. But if there's any sign of Bundesliga Haller on Saturday he'll be hard to ignore with the fixtures.

Think Barnes has outscore his Xg though I’m sure someone can correct me.

Feels like there’s no value at this level yet... someone will get going and my best bet is Haller but it’s a punt.

G2G? Hopefully this lot will repay my investment/ stupidity this week and beyond! Who’s joining me behind the couch for TOTvsNEW?!

    0.1itb -8 taken (!)
    Heaton
    VVD, Digne, Zinch, AWB
    Salah, Sterling (C), KDB, Martial
    Pukki, Jota
    (Button) (Lunds, Dendo, Greenw’d)

It’ll either be glory or disappointment - no middle ground 😆

    Appreciate your opinions 🙂

I’ve a very very similar team and I opted to do -4 to get in early on KDB this week thinking more long term rather than the obvious getting Kane in!! I shall to be behind the settee but think for the longer term I’ve made the right decision and have also freed up funds to upgrade elsewhere!

      1. Don Kloppeone

It’s just always the same with Kane. He so often disappoints when everyone considers him essential. Don’t trust him. It would only be Son if I went Spurs and I just wanted KDB more!

Very decent for revised template side.

I’m captaining Mane very probably. Think there’ll be more goals at Anfield than at Spurs. City could go wild. Fascinating week.

Mané cap pick is an interesting one. I’d love there to be loads of goals from LIV (as long as they don’t come from Robbo after I sickeningly sacrificed him for my moves!)

Jota is my wait and see. Was just less of a priority and -8 was def the limit!

    Best move here and why?

    A) Robbo & Barkley -> KWP/Boly & Martial
    B) Robbo, Barkley & Wilson -> Soyuncu, Martial & Rashford (-4)
    C) Robbo, Barkley & Wilson -> Lundstram, McGinn & Kane (-4)

    Ryan
    TAA, Robbo, Digne, Zinch, Coleman
    Salah, Sterling, Perez
    Wilson, King

    Button, Barkley, Deondocker, Martinelli
    Bank 0.0m, 2FT

Out of those C as it’s the only one where I can see you gaining enough to justify the hit.

Alternative could be same 3 out for Pukki, De Bruyne and cheap def. Would mean ignoring Spurs but going with the form players...

That’s annoying re Lunds as I’d def prefer that combo over Kane personally but that’s just me!

    2. OleGGMU
      • 5 Years
      4 years, 7 months ago

Imo, if youre looking to take a hit then defo C over B mainly because less comittment to a single team (in this case Utd) having a playing and performing cheapie in lundstram is always a good thing, kane has the fixtures and hunger to get on with it, Mcginn has a lot of energy, drive and heart to his game and never seems to stop looking for a run or way to push the team forward so i think 3 solid picks .

Rash has pens but his set pieces esp against wolves were shite to say the least , could float a single cross in , can get goals but wiv martial pushed in centre , makes kane> rash easier to decide imo

Boly has been great and would go for him over kwp, he just does more and is more likely to score of the two

      1. Jinswick

        • 13 Years

Yeah, KWP is too much of a rotation risk for me. Boly is a BP monster with a decent goal threat.

Currently between A with Boly or C. Kane(c) is tempting, but I still fancy Wilson to do well after this week. Perhaps A with Boly, no hit and hope for a BOU goal at home to City!

This my team after a -4 earlier in the week. Still not feeling confident about how it looks, and after just 121 points from the two first GWs I’m considering the WC. Should I do it?

Players out would be Heaton, one of VvD/TAA and possibly Zinchenko.

    Heaton
    VvD - TAA - Digne - Zinchenko
    KDB - Trossard - Salaj - Sterling
    Jota - Pukki
    (Button - Lundstram - Greenwood - Dendoncker)

No you have a good team. Def fine to hold after your -4

Not owning any United or Spurs assets have hurt my team badly in the first two GW's though; same with double Liverpool def. And let's not begin to talk about my goalkeeper pick.

I'm really not sure what to do. The likelihood that I press the WC button before GW 4 is very high, if I don't do it before this deadline.

      Most of it looks great.
It’s got some differentials but I’d not be confident in Bobby F or KWP on a WC. Especially Bobby, I haven’t seen him hit any great form yet. Would personally downgrade him to use funds elsewhere and stick to 2 up front

      Not for me

Kane gives the extra captain choice and you’ll never captai KdB with Sterling in.

Have a variation of this from last week. Decided against KdB to get a reasonable defence for next 20 weeks or so. You’re very light there. Could hurt I think.

      Have for comparison

      Pope
      Robbo Digne AWB Lund Rico
      Sterling Mane Martial McGinn dendo
      Kane Pukki Jota

Jota May become a city defender or 4.5 and 6.0 in midfield. Aiming for flexibility

Playing 532 this week for the first time in a few seasons, as far as I can remember:

    Ryan (SOU)
TAA (ARS) / Digne (avl) / Coleman (avl) / KWP (NEW) / Lundy (LEI)
KDB (bou) / Sterling (bou) / Salah (ARS)

I just checked the kick off time expecting it to be 5pm or something. There's been Friday night football for ages now?

    A) Kane Cantwell Zinchenko
    B) Barnes Son KWP

Thinking long term and not just the next couple of fixtures. Which combination scores more??

Anyone else feeling ham strung by going kane, salah and sterling?

    Heaton button
    Zinchenko TAA Montoya lund digne
    Perez dendo sterling salah mcginn
    Kane ings king

Got 2 free but really struggling with what to do?

1 option is taa, perez and king to maguire, martial and pukki but that seems rash?

Another is shift ings to a 5 million and perez to martial?
