Why has Everton’s attack been so underwhelming so far this season?

Everton’s popular attacking assets have underwhelmed Fantasy Premier League managers so far this season.

After two matches, they have scored just once, only Crystal Palace finding the net fewer times than the Toffees at this stage.

Perhaps we should not be too surprised to see Marco Silva’s men struggle in front of goal at this stage.

During their pre-season campaign, they scored just three goals in seven matches, with Richarlison (£8.0m) the only key figure missing for most of it.

One was registered against Kenyan side Kariobangi Sharks, while Monaco and Mainz were the only other teams to concede against Everton.

The Toffees drew blanks in four of their summer friendlies, against FC Sion, Wigan Athletic, Sevilla and Werder Bremen.

Of those who found the back of the net, Joe Williams and Lewis Gibson are not first-team regulars, the former now a permanent Wigan player, while Seamus Coleman (£5.5m) is the only summer goal-scorer to have played in either Premier League match so far this season.

Accordingly, ahead of a Gameweek 3 trip to Aston Villa, Fantasy managers might be looking to move on their Everton attackers.

We have assessed the underlying statistics from their first two matches of the campaign to find out if the Toffees have simply been unlucky not to score more often, or if there are some tangible reasons for concern.

As this article uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area only those who have signed up for the 2019/20 season can access it in full.

Keep. Must be something more urgent than selling Siggy before Aston Villa. I know Aston Villa is not that bad and Everton has not been in great goalscoring form but still if you have him I would definitely keep at least one more week.

Bought McGinn last night to avoid Robinsons price drop, woke up this morning with this horrible feeling that it will Grealish who will shine in the weeks to come.

Somebody please tell me I did the right thing.

What are you expecting from Aston Villa, they aren't going to run over any team, in fact they will be underdogs in virtually every game they play

      1. Brosstan

They will still get a decent amount of goals. Plenty of mediocre teams at about the same level as them.

          you may be right

looking at their stats and surprisingly they've created one more chance than Liverpool along with one fewer shot attempt

AV 3.04 xG vs 3.13 xG LIV

small sample size though and historically promoted teams normally start well

They're under a bit of pressure to get some points now if they want to stay up as they have very favourable fixtures and a very tricky run in.

Looks a good pick and have him, but he's not scoring from a lot of shots (apart from the one), maybe not a finisher ....maybe Ceballos or a move up to Trossard / Mount might be better

Not sure you’d want Perez. If you’re set on a Leicester mid, Tielemans and Maddison are better shouts. In two weeks time I’d want A. But for the next two weeks I’d want B.

You probably wouldn't want A in 2 weeks, look at Perez's fixtures.

I was mainly referring to having Auba and Salah. I’d go Mount over Perez.

I guess, but Sterling's fixtures are better than Auba's. And Pukki goes on a nice run after City

            Auba/Deulofeu/Greenwood

1mill itb and 1 ft. Any ideas what to do lol I’d like sterling and Auba/Perez can go ideally

My personal view is you need a Liverpool mid and a city mid not two from one team. It’s either Sterling or KDB and then either Salah or Mané. Rest of the team looks great. I’d just to Deulofeu to Pukki or Barnes

Tough one here lads, gimme a quick 1 or two! On WC:

    1) Laporte, Marital, Salah
    2) Zichenko, Son, Mane

Rest of the team looks like this:
    Pope
    VVD / X / AWB / Digne
    X / Sterling / De Bruyne / X / Cellabos
    Pukki

1 feels safer- but 2 has son!

I can’t see Leicester being a top 8 side. Also fixtures are pretty rank going forward. Why not play the fixtures with a budget defender? Burnley are the team imo.

Do you mean rotate 2x4.5s? Too haphazard for me. Soyu isn't nailed in my Starting XI - he's in and out depending on fixtures in a 3-4-3/4-4-2 system.

No I mean having one starting 4.5 defender. Have a look at the defensive season ticker and Leicester are way down the list. West Ham, Burnley and Villa have the better fixtures for teams with 4.5 defender options.

Yeah me too, not a good enough pick to play every week and no point in having him as fodder imo...so I don't like the pick either (not a fan of rotating 4.5 defenders either though I must say).

I’m on this with a wild card but not that happy with VVD feel like if I pool aren’t looking great then he’s the worst out of the three pool defenders to own.. any advice on what to do? I’m not against having no pool defenders!

    Pope
    AWB/VVD/Digne
    Salah/Mount/KDB/Sterling/Martial
    Pukki/Barnes

    Button/Lundstrom/Greenwood/Kelly

A reasonable sacrifice for having 4 big hitters IMO. The expensive defenders aren't exactly representing good value at the moment (exception of Digne). Albeit only after 2 GWs so who knows!!! 🙂

    Pope
    Zinchenko, AWB, Lundstram, Montoya
    Mane, Sterling, KDB, Martial
    Kane (c), Pukki

    (Button, Cantwell, Soyuncu, Greenwood)

Bench order good? Lundstram/Montoya/Cantwell/Soyuncu rotation looks decent for the next 4 weeks.

Cheers. Sacrifice I'm happy to make for the 4 big hitters. Plenty of options at 5.5 if and when Zinchenko gets dropped. Would be surprised if Mendy comes straight in to be honest but we will see! Was considering upgrading to Digne but would mean a 4.0 def on the bench.

People commenting as if you don’t get FT’s when you play WC. It’s fine to go without Salah/Mane for ARS/bur and then an easy 2FT IF you want them at Anfield against Toon.

Also, cannot believe anyone is picking Son. He is an unknown quantity this season. No idea how Poch will line up, if he starts and how he will settle. Was quite poor at the back end of last season also. It’s a wait and see on Son, Kane is the man this GW

Well, that's just the thing. Getting them back in is do-able, but hardly easy. It assumes you have no other pressing concerns, you're happy to drop one or two other valuable players and no price rises have hampered you. I'd only go without both if I were sure I wouldn't want them back for some time.

      Agree re. Son

      Agree with all.
I’ve gone without on mine and have got Firmino.
It allows me to have Sterling and KDB in midfield for their nice run of games.
As you say, if it back fires then I can just use 2 FTs to correct it...

Why would you not want them for ARS/bur....hardly tough fixtures is it? start of season, I thought I’ll get Moura in and then can easily move him on if someone like martial fires, I’ll have 2ft....Now I’m weighing up if the move is worth -4 as I have other fires to put out

I did it from the start and many on here thought I was nuts (that Norwich fixture was high risk admittedly). One is never more than a hit away from getting in any big hitter really!
Agree on Son, Kane is the one for this GW for sure based on what we know!

Not bad fixtures IMO but agree re: allowing for some FTs in a couple of weeks. Think Son will be gold again but big risk to put him in this week IMO especially given he's same price as KDB!
