Pukki asking serious questions of non-owners as Mount impresses

Norwich City 2-3 Chelsea

Goals: Teemu Pukki (£6.8m), Todd Cantwell (£4.6m) | Tammy Abraham (£7.0m) x 2, Mason Mount (£6.1m).

Assists: Pukki, Emi Buendía (£6.0m) | Cesar Azpilicueta (£6.0m), Christian Pulisic (£7.5m), Mateo Kovacic (£5.5m)

Bonus Points: Abraham x 3 Pukki x 2 Mount x 1

Chelsea secured their first Premier League win of the Frank Lampard era as they overcame a spirited Norwich City to prevail 3-2 winners at Carrow Road.

Tammy Abraham (£7.0m) struck twice to reward Lampard’s faith in restoring him to the starting line-up, with two fine strikes to record his first league goals for Chelsea.

However, the top Fantasy story was Teemu Pukki (£6.8m), transferred in by over 1.2 million managers since the start of the season, registering a second double-figure score of 2019/20.

The Norwich forward scored one goal and provided an assist, as well as collecting two bonus points for his battling performance against Chelsea.

In a game that had all the elements of a classic Premier League encounter, the narrative surrounding Pukki is one that leaves Fantasy managers not owning the £6.8m striker with a serious decision.

Pukki (right) scored his fifth goal of the season on Saturday lunch-time

Since the Gameweek 3 deadline, he has attracted 120,000+ new owners, and the striker’s performance against Chelsea, coupled with his form in the first two matches, are indicative of a forward with the ability to establish themselves as fixture-proof this season.

It is difficult to look past Pukki as the best value budget forward so far in 2019/20, and with his price set sky-rocket once more this week, those not in possession of him may have to act fast.

Up next for the Canaries is West Ham, whose defence has not particularly impressed this season and, even though it’s Manchester City after that, interest in Pukki will certainly be high in the build-up to Gameweek 4.

There may also be some alternatives in the Norwich ranks for Fantasy managers to consider.

Todd Cantwell celebrates scoring for Norwich against Chelsea

Pukki was supported in his attacking endeavours once again by Todd Cantwell (£4.6m), who opened the scoring for the Canaries after an incisive cut-back from the Finnish forward.

We shouldn’t forget about Emi Buendía (£6.0m) either, who has been an important creative player for Norwich so far this season.

After assisting at Anfield in Gameweek 1, the diminutive midfielder set-up Pukki’s goal against Chelsea and now has two attacking returns in 2019/20.

The potential value in Norwich’s attacking options simply cannot be understated or ignored, Pukki, Cantwell and Buendía particularly impressing in their last two outings.

Todd Cantwell and Emi Buendia celebrate a goal for Norwich

The Finnish international now has five goals and one assist in three matches, while Cantwell, playing on the left flank of the Canaries’ attacking midfield trio, has a goal and two assists.

If the trio can continue their impressive early-season form in some promising fixtures from Gamweek 6 to 8, then Daniel Farke’s side could become the most important source of budget options in the Premier League.

Abraham and Mount got the goals for Chelsea as they recorded their first win of the season

Whilst Abraham’s brace understandably stole the headlines in Chelsea’s victory, Mason Mount (£6.1m) delivered yet another exceptional performance to cement his place in Lampard’s plans for the upcoming Premier League campaign – and on the Fantasy radar.

Mount, whose goal put Chelsea 2-1 up inside 17 minutes, burst through the Norwich defence to unleash a stunning strike past Tim Krul (£4.5m).

It was another goal that highlights his potential value this season, with two strikes in his last three league games, rewarding his 6.7% ownership for Gameweek 3.

Admittedly, Mount did leave the field with a suspected calf injury, Lampard allayed any concern that Mount could be out with a long-term problem.

“For Mason, it was more of a kick on his calf so better news hopefully than a strain of any sort so hopefully he’ll recover.” Frank Lampard

Mason Mount was taken off with an injury in the second half

With over 440,000 Wildcards having been deployed in the build-up to Gameweek 3, Mount is a name that had already held relative gravitas as a budget pick for attacking coverage from Chelsea, but his impressive performance on Saturday is likely to consolidate his credibility as an attacking asset for Fantasy managers ahead of Gameweek 4.

At this point, Mount’s place in the side looks fairly assured too, not just because of his impressive form.

Chelsea were dealt another injury blow on Saturday as Pedro (£7.0m) was injured in the pre-match warm-up. While Chelsea did well in response to losing the player, it does reduce the competition for Mount in the side.

“I thought we adjusted well to that. Pedro was a last-minute change. I thought Ross came in and did very well, Mason moved to the left and did very well so I was pleased. We talk about a young team who have to deal with things on the pitch and they did it well.” Frank Lampard

Interestingly, it was Ross Barkley (£5.9m) who was turned to when Lampard needed a replacement, not Willian. He deployed Barkley in the central midfield trio and pushed Mount forward onto the left flank of the front three.

Chelsea’s defence has now failed to keep clean-sheets in any of their opening three Premier League fixtures, and the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta (£6.0m) and Kurt Zouma (£5.0m) do not seem viable options accordingly

It was another concerning performance from the Blues’ backline against Norwich on Saturday, which should sound more alarm bells for those in possession of Chelsea defenders.

This was an important result for Lampard but equally an impressive performance from Farke’s side, with players from both sides affirming their credentials as Fantasy selections, most notably Pukki, Cantwell, Abraham and Mount.

What about mcginn? He's been doing pretty well. Or maybe ceballos whose fixtures look pretty decent after the derby.

It was a tough day for 23-year-old Daniel Ceballos, on loan from Real Madrid, as he found this Anfield experience all too much but he is an undoubted talent who will have better days than this against less testing opposition.

Ceballos is still growing into the Premier League and will improve.

Current team below - possible WC during the international break but let’s see after next week. What’s my priority for next week out of these? Was thinking Siggy as he’s the most expensive but a decent home fixture this week. Problem with the others is for a free transfer we have quite limited options at 6.4 and less.

      A. Siggy
      B. Jota
      C. King

      Heaton, Pope
      VVD, Laporte, Digne, Lundstram, Rico
      Salah, Sterling, KDB, Siggy, Dendoncker
      Jota, King, Greenwood

Being plain stubborn on Pukki now - movement looks great but I’ve missed the train and trying to justify it to myself by arguing he can’t keep it up.

I was gonna do the same as I missed the 0.3 increase and wild carded late into the week, but I decided that if I didn't do it and was just being stubborn because I missed the price I'd even more annoyed when I knew it was a good transfer but I didn't wanna feel like I missed the boat. I pulled the trigger anyway and lucky for me it paid off, if you know in your gut it's the right decision then do it, or you'll wind yourself up more because you know you should have done it

Did Salah look by far the better FPL player than Mane last night?

Stats suggest that Mane had 3 more key passes and only 1 less shot. Positioning also not that much of a difference.

            Period? LMAO

If not for Luiz, Salah would have pretty much blanked yesterday. A penalty because of a shirt pull and another free run at the goal.

Stick with Salah and watch Mane tear it up for a million less. 🙂

Last season was different with a 3.0 price difference. This season it has to be Salah - pens and set pieces and undoubtedly a much higher average xG. As history suggests, Mane will not come close and not worth the 1.0 saving

Exactly. I'm a Salah owner, and they will both score well over the season, but you can't expect them to match each other every week because attacking cover is a myth. This is the perfect example. Salah went through a dry spell last season and Mane was outscoring him every week at the time. Just have to own the right one at the right time.

True. That's not the only thing that could have happened though, it's just the thing that did. I won't go so far as to who the better player is. What does seem true is that Salah is a little hungrier to go for that mega haul whereas Mane might get a brace but would slow down unless the game were tight. So having Salah against the bottom sides when City aren't playing them seems like a good recipe.

Mane didnt do very much this week, but next week could be the opposite. Salah's advantage, for me, is set pieces and Penalties.

Corners/Set-pieces in Salah’s favour, plus a more advanced central heat-map.

3 assists for Mane last season in that squad is atrocious.

Should I be looking to sell Vardy even though he scored?
Would have to get cheaper player, especially if I want to get Mount in.

        Robinson to mount
        Vardy to 8.6 max player?

I have Pukki and Greenwood as my other two.

So are early Wildarders prepared to admit the error yet or is it still a case of "a WC isn't just for one gameweek"?

I'm seeing a lot of WC teams loaded up on Man United players, with no Spurs at all, and I really can't work out what makes them any better than the teams they ripped apart.

That’s very subjective and you can’t blanket a WC decision like that. I doubt anyone went without Kane or Son on WC.

On another note, United had one of the best xG this GW, and the lowest xGc.. they were unlucky to lose

I've seen numerous WC teams around without Kane or Son. And lots Man United triple ups. It just didn't seem like a great GW for an aggressive Wildcard.

I agree that’s an error if people have don’t that, however, the strategy of wildcarding is very team dependant and you cannot ever really say it is the correct or incorrect time imo

One week sample isn't enough to determine whether it was an 'error' or not. For some, it will work out well. For some, it won't.

That basically applies to a wildcard played in ANY week. You play it when you feel your team needs it because it's YOUR team.

I disagree. Ceballos to Cantwell seems a no-brainer. I'm not sure Ceballos is a certain starter, and Cantwell just looks genius for his price. Wouldn't do the other for a hit, but I guess it depends how bad your other forwards are.

          Pool high press quality side.

As people have mentioned, there has been a disproportionate amount of price falls this year.
I am not here to argue the point as many think it is the norm.
The matter can be resolved if anyone has an idea of the algorithm for drops and rises. FF Fix is more accurate this year.

I’m not certain but I think the transfer market is very active due to early bandwagons. If people are scrambling to get Pukki, KDB, Martial, Ceballos etc, they have to be selling others which could lead to the drops

Tnsk for reply but cannot agree.
To every action there is a reaction.
This logic would suggest more risers too
Has anyone made progress with the algorithm?

Not necessarily if the risers are getting piled on. Whether they are 100 or 120% they still only rise 0.1. The previous algorithm was stated as plus or minus 10% of ownership so not sure if it has altered

How’s my team look? I’m a “Salah seller”. Swapped him for Mane... feels crap this week but I did it for the long term as I think he will haul when Salah doesn’t. Right or wrong?

        Ryan
        TAA / AWB / Digne
        Mane / Martial / KDB / Sterling / Trossard
        Pukki / Barnes

Thinking Trossard to Cantwell this week and then I’ll have an extra 1.5 mil for next week to bring Salah back in or upgrade AWB to Laporte.. Or is it a case of “holding strong” now?

There is a risk, but its less now. Between Barkley, Willian, Pedro, and Pulisic there was a lot of competition for those attacking midfield spots. But now Pedro is injured and Willian seems out of favor. Plus we have more data now and he's been their best player.

Not worth it with the value in mids this season. I can’t fit either in this 5 man midfield:

          Salah Sterling KDB Martial Mount

Plus we are all going to want Son soon.

Cantwell is only one point off Mount. Looks like pretty good value to me

“We'll have to wait and see. Hopefully they won't be too bad and maybe we can have them training during the week.”

Me. Doesn’t feel right for some reason. That being said, I opted for Trossard and that didn’t pay off this week

        2. Winston.

No. He looks like a real deal at that price. Regret not getting him for this GW.

He wont play Norwich everyweek, probably the worst defence in the league

And a lucky goal from Ndidi mistake

What’s not to like? He buzzes around the box, isn’t averse to a shot, has a good end product and on set pieces. 100% nailed under Frank as well. He is an FPL gem imo

      29. Winston.

Can we expect Matip to be nailed? Any competition in his place? Is Gomez covering TAA? Thoughts? Thanks.

Lovren and Gomez are his competition.

Lovren fit? Is Matip still preferred normally by Klop?

Flagged with illness. Matip is winning until he has a shocker. The goal helped a lot.
