Pukki asking serious questions of non-owners as Mount impresses

Norwich City 2-3 Chelsea

Goals: Teemu Pukki (£6.8m), Todd Cantwell (£4.6m) | Tammy Abraham (£7.0m) x 2, Mason Mount (£6.1m).

Assists: Pukki, Emi Buendía (£6.0m) | Cesar Azpilicueta (£6.0m), Christian Pulisic (£7.5m), Mateo Kovacic (£5.5m)

Bonus Points: Abraham x 3 Pukki x 2 Mount x 1

Chelsea secured their first Premier League win of the Frank Lampard era as they overcame a spirited Norwich City to prevail 3-2 winners at Carrow Road.

Tammy Abraham (£7.0m) struck twice to reward Lampard’s faith in restoring him to the starting line-up, with two fine strikes to record his first league goals for Chelsea.

However, the top Fantasy story was Teemu Pukki (£6.8m), transferred in by over 1.2 million managers since the start of the season, registering a second double-figure score of 2019/20.

The Norwich forward scored one goal and provided an assist, as well as collecting two bonus points for his battling performance against Chelsea.

In a game that had all the elements of a classic Premier League encounter, the narrative surrounding Pukki is one that leaves Fantasy managers not owning the £6.8m striker with a serious decision.

Pukki (right) scored his fifth goal of the season on Saturday lunch-time

Since the Gameweek 3 deadline, he has attracted 120,000+ new owners, and the striker’s performance against Chelsea, coupled with his form in the first two matches, are indicative of a forward with the ability to establish themselves as fixture-proof this season.

It is difficult to look past Pukki as the best value budget forward so far in 2019/20, and with his price set sky-rocket once more this week, those not in possession of him may have to act fast.

Up next for the Canaries is West Ham, whose defence has not particularly impressed this season and, even though it’s Manchester City after that, interest in Pukki will certainly be high in the build-up to Gameweek 4.

There may also be some alternatives in the Norwich ranks for Fantasy managers to consider.

Todd Cantwell celebrates scoring for Norwich against Chelsea

Pukki was supported in his attacking endeavours once again by Todd Cantwell (£4.6m), who opened the scoring for the Canaries after an incisive cut-back from the Finnish forward.

We shouldn’t forget about Emi Buendía (£6.0m) either, who has been an important creative player for Norwich so far this season.

After assisting at Anfield in Gameweek 1, the diminutive midfielder set-up Pukki’s goal against Chelsea and now has two attacking returns in 2019/20.

The potential value in Norwich’s attacking options simply cannot be understated or ignored, Pukki, Cantwell and Buendía particularly impressing in their last two outings.

Todd Cantwell and Emi Buendia celebrate a goal for Norwich

The Finnish international now has five goals and one assist in three matches, while Cantwell, playing on the left flank of the Canaries’ attacking midfield trio, has a goal and two assists.

If the trio can continue their impressive early-season form in some promising fixtures from Gamweek 6 to 8, then Daniel Farke’s side could become the most important source of budget options in the Premier League.

Abraham and Mount got the goals for Chelsea as they recorded their first win of the season

Whilst Abraham’s brace understandably stole the headlines in Chelsea’s victory, Mason Mount (£6.1m) delivered yet another exceptional performance to cement his place in Lampard’s plans for the upcoming Premier League campaign – and on the Fantasy radar.

Mount, whose goal put Chelsea 2-1 up inside 17 minutes, burst through the Norwich defence to unleash a stunning strike past Tim Krul (£4.5m).

It was another goal that highlights his potential value this season, with two strikes in his last three league games, rewarding his 6.7% ownership for Gameweek 3.

Admittedly, Mount did leave the field with a suspected calf injury, Lampard allayed any concern that Mount could be out with a long-term problem.

“For Mason, it was more of a kick on his calf so better news hopefully than a strain of any sort so hopefully he’ll recover.” Frank Lampard

Mason Mount was taken off with an injury in the second half

With over 440,000 Wildcards having been deployed in the build-up to Gameweek 3, Mount is a name that had already held relative gravitas as a budget pick for attacking coverage from Chelsea, but his impressive performance on Saturday is likely to consolidate his credibility as an attacking asset for Fantasy managers ahead of Gameweek 4.

At this point, Mount’s place in the side looks fairly assured too, not just because of his impressive form.

Chelsea were dealt another injury blow on Saturday as Pedro (£7.0m) was injured in the pre-match warm-up. While Chelsea did well in response to losing the player, it does reduce the competition for Mount in the side.

“I thought we adjusted well to that. Pedro was a last-minute change. I thought Ross came in and did very well, Mason moved to the left and did very well so I was pleased. We talk about a young team who have to deal with things on the pitch and they did it well.” Frank Lampard

Interestingly, it was Ross Barkley (£5.9m) who was turned to when Lampard needed a replacement, not Willian. He deployed Barkley in the central midfield trio and pushed Mount forward onto the left flank of the front three.

Chelsea’s defence has now failed to keep clean-sheets in any of their opening three Premier League fixtures, and the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta (£6.0m) and Kurt Zouma (£5.0m) do not seem viable options accordingly

It was another concerning performance from the Blues’ backline against Norwich on Saturday, which should sound more alarm bells for those in possession of Chelsea defenders.

This was an important result for Lampard but equally an impressive performance from Farke’s side, with players from both sides affirming their credentials as Fantasy selections, most notably Pukki, Cantwell, Abraham and Mount.

One last chance for Perez (BOU) or just ship him to Mount (SHU) this week? 6.6m budget for replacement.

I’m keeping for one more week (and then he is gone regardless of performance vs. BOU). Son looks the ideal replacement from GW4 with a downgrade elsewhere.

Yeah Son is potentially a great differential. Quite a large downgrade required to bring him in for Perez though!

Still don't think it's worth removing Digne who is as likely to get attacking returns as TAA while also getting rid of another premium player who's a bonus magnet for another player who plays in a poor side (defensively).

Raheem all the way. If anyone from Spurs is hauling its Sonny.

This is almost Salah v Mane version 2.0.
Sterling more points long term IMO, probably Kane gets the golden boot.............IF he stays fit. Today the armband is on Sterling, so I'm hoping for a Kane duck especially as I was late to the Pukki party

King and Perez to Haller and Mount for -4?

Current team, which I plan to WC after next week:

    Ryan
    TAA, Zinchenko, AWB, Digne
    Perez, Sterling, Salah, Martial
    Pukki, King

    Button, Lundstram, Dendo, Wickham

Seems like Robbo's drop is imminent either today or tomorrow.

I'm still being very patient here with owning both Robbo and VVD. If there's no further evidence that they will keep a cleansheet soon, time to hit the wildcard?

I think they'll be fine, Robbo is fine where he is, looked very attacking vs Arsenal.

Yea I caught the game. Robbo seems fine with being very advanced.

On another day, it could be VVD scoring from the corner instead of matip. Hence why I'm being patient still.

I've done it this week. Going with just the one now. Don't think they'll come close to their defensive records from last season. Still expect 12-15 CS with the odd attacking returns though.

Certainly. There's no wonder he's been first choice for Brazil over Ederson despite Ederson's heroics at Benfica and the season when Alisson was still at Roma. First GK to win 3 golden gloves in a season is no joke either.

This is what I love about this site.

Start of the season, every RMT had to have Siggy/Fraser and Perez in them and if not you were recommended to change your team to have them.

Middle of GW3, folks already ditched Fraser and now can't line up fast enough to replace Siggy and Perez.

    Glorious stuff.

    1. Cok3y5murf

I mean, folks even ditched Salah by GW3. Was the most commonly-owned player during pre-season.

      1. Pacer.
        • 9 Years

That's because he's a huge cash cow, but reliable. When great value prospects emerge he's going to get the chop to free up money. This isn't a surprise, it's always been this way. He doesn't represent any better value than many other players, so if you have a captain in Sterling, he's non essential

        1. Cok3y5murf
          • 7 Years
          4 years, 7 months ago

No one is essential, but what value prospects? Salah and Sterling were the most popular premium combo during pre-season. How had that changed in two weeks? Oh right, he blanked once. That's all it takes in this place. You say he doesn't represent any better value than many other players, yet he was in almost every team here in GW1.

I can't believe that you can't answer this question for yourself, given you must have been playing this game for at least three years.

            The reemergence of KdB
            The hot streak of Pukki
The drop in Kane's price and brace
            The comparitive value of mane
The failure of Perez and Fraser

I mean, the list goes on. Do you really have to be one of those people who attacks the straw man of 'knee-jerking' to belittle every single manager who transfered out Salah.

I binned salah. Here's my story: got salah in because nobody really knows how the season will start. He covers you. Salah does what you got him in to do. Great. But other players fail and some players hit the ground running. More than a couple of failures at price points without really promising options and you're looking at scaling up. So once more info is available, off you go

            My

            Wilson
            Salah
            Perez
            Fraser
            Robbo

            becomes

            Pukki
            Kane
            Son
            KdB
            AwB

I'm not interested in arguing the ins and outs of my moves as we are mid gameweek. But it is tiring watching people reducing all the work someone puts into figuring out a big move like shipping out salah to a 'knee jerk'

            1. Cok3y5murf
              • 7 Years
              4 years, 7 months ago

Wilson, Perez, and Fraser have nothing to do with selling Salah. They're in a much cheaper price bracket. You can replace them with the likes of Pukki, Mount, McGinn, Martial etc. without touching Salah. Even KDB because I did Wilson, Perez, Fraser ➡ Pukki, KDB, McGinn this week. So that means Son was possible too since he costs the same as KDB. Robbo was still a better pick than AWB based on two weeks of data. That leaves Kane. Why swap Salah for Kane after 2 weeks? If you wanted Kane over Salah, you may as well have started the season with him. But you know you didn't.

              1. Pacer.

What are you talking about about. How do you upscale 13m of mids to 18m of mids without freeing up Salah level cash

And please stop moving the goalposts of the conversation. We aren't talking about the merits of my choices. We are talking about why painting all managers who ship salah as knee jerkers is reductive and lacks understanding

I can see you have a tiny mind that just needs other people to feel wrong in their decisions

I trust you won last year. Your name is now stored under the trash talk trolling posters with nothing of value to add to be ignored

What if Mount”s knock more serious and he misses next week’s game? I would wait

    Morning dzz,

Game of fine margins! for a change I made an early transfer last gw and I had realised 2 days later it was the wrong move. Wish I had wilscarded to amend my error.

Ended up having Taa / Perez / Kane as opposed to Lundstrum / Salah / Pukki because I didn’t want to have lundstrum as a permanent starter!!

Who else do you have in defence then if you'd have to start Lundstram every week?

He will look dull against city though. Don't have any hope of return.
If so then Haller may be in his place?

I'm also on WC. Isn't Mendy back in training so I'm unsure on putting Zinc in my team. Also Wilson on WC seems a little odd?

Zinchenko is competing with too many players imo. Would prefer Laporte over anyone if not Walker.

Prob me. Think he might have an outside chance of a start vs Southampton after their last result.
