Captain Poll

Manchester City assets set to compete for Gameweek 4 captaincy

Manchester City assets are expected to compete amongst each other for the Gameweek 4 captaincy in the coming days.

Pep Guardiola’s men host Brighton on Saturday afternoon, one of the most appealing fixtures for premium Fantasy assets.

The Seagulls have looked a little fragile at the back in their last two outings, against West Ham and Southampton, and conceded four times the last time they faced Manchester City, admittedly under a different manager.

However, the reigning champions are in scintillating attacking form, with Raheem Sterling (£12.2m) proving a reliable source of points in the first three Gameweeks.

In that time, he is joint-top in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot, his five strikes level with Norwich forward Teemu Pukki (£6.9m).

However, those in possession of Sergio Aguero (£12.0m) will almost certainly be considerin the forward after he finished as the top-scoring player from Manchester City’s recent win over Bournemouth.

The Argentinian played 90 minutes for the first time this season at the Vitality Stadium, which coincided with Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m) being ruled out with a hamstring problem.

That should keep the Brazilian out until after the international break, so Aguero’s route into the team against Brighton is unrivalled, and his chances of minute-management by Guardiola will be reduced too.

Also looking like a viable candidate is Kevin de Bruyne (£9.7m), who recorded his fourth assist of the campaign against Bournemouth.

While he is not quite as explosive as his colleagues further forward, the Belgian midfielder has a history of being a reliable source of points when he is a regular in the team.

Many of the other premium options face tougher tasks in Gameweek 4, although that’s not to suggest there won’t be attacking returns on offer.

Liverpool travel to Burnley this weekend, to face a Clarets defence that has got back to its best under Sean Dyche this season.

However, the Reds have scored an average of three goals per game in 2019/20, Mohamed Salah (£12.5m) involved in four of them so far.

Meanwhile, Sadio Mané (£11.5m) was the key man against Southampton, while Roberto Firmino (£9.5m) has been a constant threat for the Reds.

Meanwhile, Arsenal and Spurs go head-to-head in the north London derby on Sunday afternoon.

Following a blank against Newcastle, interest in Harry Kane (£11.1m) may be low, but he does have a good record against the Gunners.

Meanwhile, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) has attacking returns in each Gameweek so far this season.

Alternatively, Pukki might garner some support for Gameweek 4 after an excellent start to the season.

With five goals in three matches, a match-up with the West Ham defence could reap rewards for the Norwich man.

You can vote in our latest poll below, or in the sidebar of our website.

Also, Joe and David will be discussing the Gameweek 4 captaincy in a live video on our YouTube channel at 12:30pm on Tuesday lunch-time.

On a wildcard, which should be good pick?

    Team A
    Button - Pope
Soyuncu - VVD - Digne (Rico - Lundstrom)
Salah - Sterling - McGinn - Mount (Cantwell)
    Aguero - Pukki - Barnes
    0.3ITB

    - Aguero mins could be guaranteed for coming 2 games at least when Jesus is injured
    - Midfield is weaker than Team B?

    Team B
    Button - Pope
    Soyuncu - VVD - Digne (4.5M DEF - Lundstrom)
Salah - Sterling - KDB - Mount (Cantwell)
    Haller - Pukki - Barnes
    0.4ITB

    - 3 Forwards template set for current wildcard, but Haller is really a good pick?
    - Midfield tend to be safe pick.

      Both teams look really strong.

On WC I would probably choose A, but would be concerned with Aguero's minutes over the season. But he is a safe pick.

Yes, once Jesus is fine, my plan is to downgrade Aguero, and bring KDB on GW6. Good?

Long term transfer plans usually doesn't turn out as planned.
But it is a sensible plan, if you can stick to it. He might also be hard to ship, if he scores good. But that's a luxury problem.

With Sterling as your regular captain among City options, KDB + Haller is expected to outscore Aguero + McGinn over any period of time. Slot in the fact that KDB gives you an easy switch to Pepe or Son within the next few GWs without needing another wildcard, and you have flexibility + more points

I'd suggest that it's more advisable to have medium-term switches between 7.7 to 9.5 mids and 6.0 to 7.5 FWDs than to switch from Aguero to Kane to Auba based on who scored the last hat trick/brace or blanked against Castle. Would take a lot of patience, but this is my plan

Agree. If choose Team A, i think is for GW4-5. My plan is to downgrade Aguero, and bring KDB on GW6.

Oh my goodness. No. Don't get a premium FWD on a wildcard and plan to switch him to a premium mid. That could screw you up as he could be matched by both the premium mid and mid-price FWD in that same period. Premiums win over a long period of time, but shouldn't be expected to pay back as short-term punts except on Free Hit. This has shown over and over again with Kane, Aguero and Auba. People still licking their wounds over Kane (C) vs Castle. If you're getting a premium forward on a WC, it's for blanks and hauls. A long term move or Free Hit

Not so sure ...what if Aguero bags 15-20 points in a game over the next 4, and KDB ticks along with a few assists, maybe a 10 pointer in the mix...

Hallers had one good game and plays for WHAM, so chances are he doesnt score braces every week

Its actually pretty rational if its based on previous history / performances....

We know Aguero can massively haul vs weaker teams at home, hes done it before...we know City can score 4-5 goals against easier opposition at home...and he's on penalties

We know that KDB doesnt score a lot of goals but gets assists, and tends to play deeper when Dilva is playing, which is against weaker opposition...like WHAM and BOU

We know that WHAM can turn shite on any given matchday..

We don't know if Haller will keep up his scoring as hes only played two games, and new to the EPL

In terms of expected stats for midfielders, they're on a another f'ing planet.

Strikers compete more with xG, but still get destroyed in xGI.

I question the sanity of anyone that doesn't own both.

Has taken me far too long to cop on to this, and it's going to cost me. Spread funds too thin, with Salah KDB Vardy Wilson as my most expensive players at the start.

Then panicked this week and did Salah -> Sterling as part of a 3 transfer -4.

Salah will be back in for GW5, or GW4 if Martial is out.

Do you not think having Hazard as an alternative, and Mane being so cheap helped a lot? It's a brand new season, and these two players are far ahead of the pack. Are they not crucial for captaincy?

There's plenty of value around to support them, and having high-scoring, but bad-value captain options is important.

When do you plan on captaining Salah? How many times in the next 10?
I don't think Cantwell can keep up with the mids. Soy, Lund and whoever won't come near the big boys.

Think choosing between Sterling and Salah is a good idea. Captain one, ditch the other. If one is not captain, although the PPG is good, the PPG per million drops right down. Therefore, spreading the cost of the ditched premium means you get more bang for your buck over the rest of the team. Unless the £4m players keep scoring big...!

Stick with my last week's decision of Salah > Kane or take a hit to revert back to what i should have done last gw? so confused

    Pope -- Heaton
Taa Digne Zincheko Vvd -- Rico
Sterling Martial Kdb Perez -- Docker
    Kane King -- Wickham

    A) Perez + King >> Mcginn + Pukki (-4)...and go without Salah unless i WC
    B) Vvd + Wickham >> Lundy + Pukki (-4) with the possibility to do Perez + Kane >> Salah + Wickham (-4) in gw5.
    C) Vvd + Perez + Kane >> Lundy + Salah + Pukki (-8)

    Somebody tell me that doing
    Vardy -> Haller
    Lucas -> KDB

Is a good idea. I'm holding back coz I think Vardy might hurt me against Sheffield.
    Rest of the team is

    Pope/Heaton
    Robbo/Digne/Zinchenko/Dunk/Lundstram
    Mane/Sterling/Martial/Dendoncker
    Pukki/Greenwood

    Oldie, newbie question...
I’ve made two transfers already. If I free hit now, they get cancelled right, or would next weeks team include the two I already did?
Just I did it early to catch a rise, so I’d lose that rise as well?
Basically if Martial is out I’ll need to take a -8 and regret taking Moura out already

    1. Twisted Saltergater
      • 14 Years

Yep, free hit is a one week WC.

If you FH now the 2 transfers you already made will be treated as free hit. Those players won't be in your team in the following week.

    Kane owners

I didn’t rage transfer Kane out on Sunday. Somehow. He now has Arsenal up next in the North London derby and that will be another difficult game for Spurs, but will it be a difficult game for Kane?

Newcastle sat deep and narrow, and throttled the supply to Kane. Son and Moura’s first instincts are to engineer the space for a shot and then to pass if they’re unable to. Lamela, playing behind Kane, was on another planet - there was no chemistry, no defence splitting one-twos and no end product.

Arsenal will attack. There will be space in the final third. But I’m still not sure that translates into points for Kane. If I do decide to keep - and there’s Haller a temptation not to - I want to be seeing Eriksen and Alli back in the starting line up.

No long a captain option for me, I either ship him immediately or after Arsenal. How about you?

    1. Miniboss
      • 5 Years

I think it's about if Eriksen stays and finds his joy to play again. If he goes, Kane is a no-go until further notice.

Lamela to Eriksen is so obvious for Pochettino.
He must have asked for a transfer

I think we’d have heard about a transfer request. Eriksen’s agent would be all over it.

I reckon it’s Poch freezing him out while Eriksen is open to a move away.

Spurs have no creativity in midfield. Moura, Son, Lamela are all selfish glory hunters and Winks and Sissoko couldn’t sniff out an assist between them. Without Eriksen and the like of Bavies and Trippier in previous seasons, I just can’t trust Kane at all

      1. KUN_DE_BRU_YNE

I’m in a total dilemma with this. Agree Kane needs to go at some point he’s useless without Eriksen and even then if he keeps coming deep it’s a waste of a striker option.
So I’m either keeping for 1 more week or doing a -4 for Aguero this week. Very tempted to do the -4.

Do you have Sterling and KdB? I’d put the funds there plus a Man City defender tbh.

I have Sterling and Walker at the moment. Option next week would be Trossard > KDB and Kane > Haller?? If I keep Kane this week. Think that’s a better option than a hit this week?
