Captain Sensible

Who is the best FPL captain for Gameweek 4?

It’s all about Manchester City in the captaincy debate for Gameweek 4 as Brighton come to the Etihad.

However, that hasn’t necessarily made the discussion a straight-forward one.

We have got another Captain Sensible article ready to help you decide who to give the armband too this weekend.

As this uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those signed up for the 2019/20 season can access it in full.

Captain Poll

Raheem Sterling (£12.2m) has made sure that the Gameweek 4 captaincy debate is somewhat one-sided as far as our captain poll is concerned.

The Manchester City attacker currently has a massive 51.4% share of the vote (as of Thursday evening) after scoring five goals in his first three matches of the season.

Meanwhile, Brighton have just one clean sheet in 2019/20, recorded against a woeful Watford side on the opening weekend of the campaign.

Since then, the Seagulls have conceded against West Ham and Southampton at the Amex Stadium.

That’s why there is significant interest in Manchester City players, Sterling the prime candidate.

His dominance of the vote is displayed by a 35.4% gap between him and Sergio Aguero (£12.0m) in second place, who currently has the support of 16%.

The Argentinian’s brace against Bournemouth has reminded Fantasy managers what this FPL legend is capable of.

The recent injury to Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m), expected to keep him out until the end of the international break, seems to have restored confidence in Aguero’s ability to play 90 minutes.

After having his game-time managed in the first two Gameweeks of 2019/20, he stayed on the pitch for the entirety of Manchester City’s win at the Vitality Stadium.

Mohamed Salah‘s (£12.5m) 15-point haul in Gameweek 3 has ensured he returns in small part to the captaincy debate.

The Egyptian is the third-most-popular candidate ahead of Saturday’s trip to Burnley with 6.4% of the vote.

The Clarets have defended stoutly this season but have only kept one clean sheet so far, so Jurgen Klopp will be hoping his Liverpool side can keep the winning form going at Turf Moor.

Kevin de Bruyne (£9.7m) completes a trio of Manchester City candidates among the poll’s top five for Gameweek 4.

Just 4.1% of the voters have gone with the Belgian midfielder but there is certainly plenty of cause to consider him for the armband.

De Bruyne may not be as explosive an option as Sterling and Aguero but he has been reliable this season.

Having conquered 2018/19’s injury problems and re-established himself as a regular starter in Pep Guardiola’s side, de Bruyne has attacking returns in each of his outings so far this season.

They have all come in the form of assists, registering four in total, and averaging 7.7 points per game across the first three matches.

Perhaps the most exciting differential option for the captaincy in Gameweek 4 is Norwich City striker Teemu Pukki (£7.0m).

Like Sterling, he also has five goals in his first three matches of the campaign, as well as an assist too.

This weekend Pukki faces a West Ham defence that has not inspired confidence for quite some time under Manuel Pellegrini.

That will be why 3.8% of our voters are considering the Finland international for the armband.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane (£11.1m), Sébastien Haller (£7.4m), Nathan Redmond (£6.4m), Mason Mount (£6.2m) and Tammy Abraham (£7.1m) are the only other options with more than 1% support in the poll.

Saving my FT this week so I can do 3 transfers for a - 4 in the IB. It means I need to start one of these with Martial out. Which to play?

Hope Gollum gives us a decent indication around how long Martial is out for, rather than banging on about 1999, and how all of his players are going to play a lot of minutes and score lots of goals.

Which option should I play and bench order the other 2:
    A) Kelly vs AVL
    B) Cantwell vs whu
    C) Barnes vs LIV

No Salah/Mane quite bold, planning on riding the Aguero for a couple of weeks and then switching to LIV premium or do you plan going long term without?
I would rather TAA and upgrade Pepe to Mane, rest of the team pretty solid but I would put Kelly first on bench, might come up if Gomez starts over Matip.

      1. Little fekirs
        • 5 Years
        4 years, 7 months ago

Yeah bench not in any order but Kelly v Villa looks a good shout.

Will hold Aguero as long as it goes well really, haven’t planned out when to move him out. I would captain Sterling/Aguero over Salah/Mane for the around next 7 GW’s which means they are not worth their price imo and would much rather get in KDB and use the spare 2/3 million for the rest of my team.

        Thanks for the response mate.

                  No Liverpool midfielder sucks hole.

                  Matip rotation risk.

Has Emerson kept a clean sheet?

    I'm being a bit maverick here.....or am I?

    Ederson
    VVD/Robbo/Zinchenko
    Salah/Sterling/Martial*/Cantwell
    Barnes/Pukki/Haller
    Subs:Hayden/Kelly/Lundstram

My issue is that I fancy Barnes to nick a goal at home to Liverpool.....but I also have double Liverpool defence. I also have Martial who is injured

My solution? Have Hayden autosub in for Martial then'-

Kelly-Lundstrram off the bench to replace VVD and Robbo for one week only then revert for GW5.

Madness or genius? This also saves me any hits......

If you really think Burnley will score then hedge your bets and play the Liverpool defender you think most likely to get attacking points and bench the other. I'd play both Liverpool defenders.

Sounds like you have faith in your bench so no need to lose Martial for a hit.

Which stat do you place more weight to, 'Shots on Target', or 'Shots in the Box'?

Out of the 80 the goals scored in the Premier League this season (Own goals excluded), 67 have come from inside the box. 84% of them.

100% of the goals have come from shots on target 😀

I am a shots in the box sort of guy. My rationale being obviously I want my guys to have lots of shots but also accuracy doesn't bother me and top players should be aiming for the corners and therefore more likely for it to just go wide.It prob doesn't translate but that how i see it in my head

      1. Piggs Boson
        • 12 Years
        4 years, 7 months ago

Yeah, I'd rather SitB over SoT. I want my players inside the box, in the thick of the action. More likely to be involved in goals. Speculative shooters, however accurate, have never appealed to me. Don't think I've ever owned Eriksen...

        xG beats them all though.

I would even rank SitB over Xg, perhaps as i have never really understood xg. Pen box touches is another stat i highly rank

Agree, they can lead to assists as well as goals.
SoT - well that's nice if you've got Pope in goal - adds to his save points.

    An investment question:

Would you sell a player who is likely to lose 0.1 but not make you profit, i.e. bought Ndombele at 6.1 and would sell at 6.1, or sell a player also likely to lose 0.1 but on whom you would make a profit of 0.1, i.e. bought Martial at 6.5 and could sell at 6.7?

Who do you think will find form and step up to score big this GW, and why?

Maybe someone who hasn't had a double digit score in a while, who has a series of no attacking returns, or has very low ownership.

Do you think it will be an already-established name in many of our sides or someone who is a major differential?

Have you seen something in someone's play or in their stats to make you think they could be ready for a breakout GW?

High ownership - Kane. Loves playing Arsenal and Spurs should be fired up after the Newcastle loss. Can imagine the game will be high scoring as Arsenal look suspect at the back and exciting up top.
