Captain Sensible

Who is the best FPL captain for Gameweek 4?

It’s all about Manchester City in the captaincy debate for Gameweek 4 as Brighton come to the Etihad.

However, that hasn’t necessarily made the discussion a straight-forward one.

We have got another Captain Sensible article ready to help you decide who to give the armband too this weekend.

As this uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those signed up for the 2019/20 season can access it in full.

Captain Poll

Raheem Sterling (£12.2m) has made sure that the Gameweek 4 captaincy debate is somewhat one-sided as far as our captain poll is concerned.

The Manchester City attacker currently has a massive 51.4% share of the vote (as of Thursday evening) after scoring five goals in his first three matches of the season.

Meanwhile, Brighton have just one clean sheet in 2019/20, recorded against a woeful Watford side on the opening weekend of the campaign.

Since then, the Seagulls have conceded against West Ham and Southampton at the Amex Stadium.

That’s why there is significant interest in Manchester City players, Sterling the prime candidate.

His dominance of the vote is displayed by a 35.4% gap between him and Sergio Aguero (£12.0m) in second place, who currently has the support of 16%.

The Argentinian’s brace against Bournemouth has reminded Fantasy managers what this FPL legend is capable of.

The recent injury to Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m), expected to keep him out until the end of the international break, seems to have restored confidence in Aguero’s ability to play 90 minutes.

After having his game-time managed in the first two Gameweeks of 2019/20, he stayed on the pitch for the entirety of Manchester City’s win at the Vitality Stadium.

Mohamed Salah‘s (£12.5m) 15-point haul in Gameweek 3 has ensured he returns in small part to the captaincy debate.

The Egyptian is the third-most-popular candidate ahead of Saturday’s trip to Burnley with 6.4% of the vote.

The Clarets have defended stoutly this season but have only kept one clean sheet so far, so Jurgen Klopp will be hoping his Liverpool side can keep the winning form going at Turf Moor.

Kevin de Bruyne (£9.7m) completes a trio of Manchester City candidates among the poll’s top five for Gameweek 4.

Just 4.1% of the voters have gone with the Belgian midfielder but there is certainly plenty of cause to consider him for the armband.

De Bruyne may not be as explosive an option as Sterling and Aguero but he has been reliable this season.

Having conquered 2018/19’s injury problems and re-established himself as a regular starter in Pep Guardiola’s side, de Bruyne has attacking returns in each of his outings so far this season.

They have all come in the form of assists, registering four in total, and averaging 7.7 points per game across the first three matches.

Perhaps the most exciting differential option for the captaincy in Gameweek 4 is Norwich City striker Teemu Pukki (£7.0m).

Like Sterling, he also has five goals in his first three matches of the campaign, as well as an assist too.

This weekend Pukki faces a West Ham defence that has not inspired confidence for quite some time under Manuel Pellegrini.

That will be why 3.8% of our voters are considering the Finland international for the armband.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane (£11.1m), Sébastien Haller (£7.4m), Nathan Redmond (£6.4m), Mason Mount (£6.2m) and Tammy Abraham (£7.1m) are the only other options with more than 1% support in the poll.

This is the last piece on my Jigsaw

A Laporte Digne Trent Mings Lund
    B Zinc Digne Trent Emerson

On B currently, possibly the 4 best wings backs in the league..

    Any thoughts?

Try 2 things: remove players who are on both options. Have same number of players on both options.

I prefer and have gone with A. But have Rico instead of mings as playing different formation.

    Couple of quick questions

    1) Best option from gw5:
    A) Vvd + Cantwell.......... with rico/dendocker as subs when cantwell has a bad fixture
    B) Lundstrum + Martial ..with rico/dendocker as subs when lundstrum has a bad fixture

    2) Who to bench from
    X) Cantwell (whm)....already have pukki starting
    Y) King (lei)....on pens but any open play goal threat? havnt seen any bournemouth games so far
    Z) Perez (BOU)...good home fixtures but will he start?

    I am leaning towards 1A and 2Z

Really regretting waiting to make transfers this week... 1FT, thinking Deulofeu -> Pukki leaving me £0.5 short. Where do I downgrade? Martial or?
    Thanks

    Ederson
    Keane - Digne - Lascelles
    Salah - Sterling (C) - Bernardo - Martial
    Haller - Deulofeu - King

    Bottommed:

How does my WC final team look? Gone for Aguero over Sterling so it makes it easier to swap/change in future weeks.

    Pope

    TAA - Digne - Zinch

    Salah - KDB - Mount - Ceballos

    Aguero (c) - Pukki - Haller

Subs: Button / Cantwell / Lundstram / Kelly

Other alternative, is having a 3-5-2 with Sterling in mid, instead of Ceballos & playing 2 up top?

    Heaton
    TAA Digne soyuncu lunstrum
    KDB sterling Salah hayden

I was in the same position having already taken a -8. Went on to wildcard and happy I did so. If there's still a couple of things you want to fix might as well go on and do it now and be set for a few couple of weeks, rather than take another hit next week too!

Yeah, I just think I'd wc after IB anyway, I know there could be injuries during IB but it would save me 8points now and from fielding a slightly weak team. Thanks, will decide before price rises tonight.

Your not wrong, but already being on a - 8 and still looking weak is swaying me, if I had only used my FT or even was on a - 4 I might just swap martial out and be happy, but - 12 is too much. I'll wait and see maybe greenwood might start and I'll l swap him in for hayden

  13. Kodap

    Pick one:

    A. Aguero
    B. Sterling

Option A, enables me to change to different striker if need be quite easily, Option B looks like a more 'long run' choice, but.. makes it a bit harder to swap to other players if needed.

    A would be 3-4-3, B would be 3-5-2.

    1. RIDZ

I personally wouldn’t wildcard, that’s a solid team and you’re only making 5/6 changes- one of whom is vardy who has a great fixture this week, another is martial who ole has said will come back after the break! You don’t necessarily need aguero as you have sterling so I would say hold- looks like a decent team to me!

Chris Wood after this week could be quite a differential and less than 1% ownership. How's he looked? Anyone tempted?

only stat I have: shots on target: Barnes 4.3 Wood 1.3
Better to wait until Wood starts to hit some form I guess

Barnes was more threatening than Wood in the first two games, but Wood was more dangerous than Barnes last game. Barnes only scored in that game because of an incredible long-range volley.

On balance, you have to say Barnes looks the better option at the moment. Could do with more data. Tough fixture this week though...

I have 0.2 itb. Have Martial too. Bench of Lundstram, Greenwood, Dendoncker. Will it be wise to transfer Dendoncker to Cantwell to strengthen my bench?

Free yes. But I can't decide if 2ft after the break is more valuable?

Good chance that Cantwell's price may rise again and Dendonker didn't start last week so I would

This is what I’m thinking I would do but I only have 0.1itb so I can’t!

          I think it makes sense!

Hi Guys, I’ve got a bit of a conundrum regarding Mendy! Unlike most on this site I am playing in a draft league (price not relevant) and Mendy is available.

I’ve been playing 3-4-3 and after a trade this week my defence is:

        Digne, Emerson, Doherty, Cancelo, Zabaleta

Obviously dropping Zabaleta but who do I replace him with?

        A) Young as a short term punt
        B) Safe bet such as Mings/Tarkowski
        C) Get Mendy early (higher risk but higher reward potentially)

Really appreciate any thoughts and sorry for such a long post!

        Properly stuck in a dilemma..

        For the long run:

        A. Aguero (good enabler to downgrade to someone like Aub/Kane)

        B. Sterling (long term, pick and forget)

Long term WanB, think united defence will sure up and Matips spot could be taken by Gomez

FT, which one is priority ?

        A) Simpson -> Mings
        B) Long -> Ayew

        Cheers

        OGS on Martial and Shaw:

“They’re doing okay but they won’t be involved in this game,” Solskjaer told the United App.
“After the international break, hopefully Anthony will be ready for the Leicester game and Luke maybe another week or two after that.”

That dreaded cover your ass phrase

But I think it makes me more confident re him being back after IB than something like “he is improving but we just can’t tell when he’ll be back”

Yep - he is easily the best option in that price bracket imo.

                For sure.

In a way annoying as I do fancy Mount/ Haller but prob not worth the moves
