Captain Sensible

Who is the best FPL captain for Gameweek 4?

It’s all about Manchester City in the captaincy debate for Gameweek 4 as Brighton come to the Etihad.

However, that hasn’t necessarily made the discussion a straight-forward one.

We have got another Captain Sensible article ready to help you decide who to give the armband too this weekend.

As this uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those signed up for the 2019/20 season can access it in full.

Captain Poll

Raheem Sterling (£12.2m) has made sure that the Gameweek 4 captaincy debate is somewhat one-sided as far as our captain poll is concerned.

The Manchester City attacker currently has a massive 51.4% share of the vote (as of Thursday evening) after scoring five goals in his first three matches of the season.

Meanwhile, Brighton have just one clean sheet in 2019/20, recorded against a woeful Watford side on the opening weekend of the campaign.

Since then, the Seagulls have conceded against West Ham and Southampton at the Amex Stadium.

That’s why there is significant interest in Manchester City players, Sterling the prime candidate.

His dominance of the vote is displayed by a 35.4% gap between him and Sergio Aguero (£12.0m) in second place, who currently has the support of 16%.

The Argentinian’s brace against Bournemouth has reminded Fantasy managers what this FPL legend is capable of.

The recent injury to Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m), expected to keep him out until the end of the international break, seems to have restored confidence in Aguero’s ability to play 90 minutes.

After having his game-time managed in the first two Gameweeks of 2019/20, he stayed on the pitch for the entirety of Manchester City’s win at the Vitality Stadium.

Mohamed Salah‘s (£12.5m) 15-point haul in Gameweek 3 has ensured he returns in small part to the captaincy debate.

The Egyptian is the third-most-popular candidate ahead of Saturday’s trip to Burnley with 6.4% of the vote.

The Clarets have defended stoutly this season but have only kept one clean sheet so far, so Jurgen Klopp will be hoping his Liverpool side can keep the winning form going at Turf Moor.

Kevin de Bruyne (£9.7m) completes a trio of Manchester City candidates among the poll’s top five for Gameweek 4.

Just 4.1% of the voters have gone with the Belgian midfielder but there is certainly plenty of cause to consider him for the armband.

De Bruyne may not be as explosive an option as Sterling and Aguero but he has been reliable this season.

Having conquered 2018/19’s injury problems and re-established himself as a regular starter in Pep Guardiola’s side, de Bruyne has attacking returns in each of his outings so far this season.

They have all come in the form of assists, registering four in total, and averaging 7.7 points per game across the first three matches.

Perhaps the most exciting differential option for the captaincy in Gameweek 4 is Norwich City striker Teemu Pukki (£7.0m).

Like Sterling, he also has five goals in his first three matches of the campaign, as well as an assist too.

This weekend Pukki faces a West Ham defence that has not inspired confidence for quite some time under Manuel Pellegrini.

That will be why 3.8% of our voters are considering the Finland international for the armband.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane (£11.1m), Sébastien Haller (£7.4m), Nathan Redmond (£6.4m), Mason Mount (£6.2m) and Tammy Abraham (£7.1m) are the only other options with more than 1% support in the poll.

Need your help here. I’m sitting on Martial (and double Liverpool-def, Robbo/VVD) - would you rather:

    A) Martial to Lanzini
    B) Martial to Mount
    C) Martial + VVD to KdB + 4,6m def, eg. Söyuncu (or any other downgrade)

    Thanks...

Feel may be worth a RP as so many waiting on news...

        OGS on Martial and Shaw:

“They’re doing okay but they won’t be involved in this game,” Solskjaer told the United App.
“After the international break, hopefully Anthony will be ready for the Leicester game and Luke maybe another week or two after that.”

        I think I’ll hold him

Oh, Mr. Martial. How could you?

Already on a -4 (cleared up some much needed dead wood) and have Trossard, Diop and Lundstram on the bench to fill in.

Cut to the chase, worth a -8 to bring in Mason Mount?

I'm thinking no but Martial will have to go next week anyway.

            Bottomed:

Hi Guys, I’ve got a bit of a conundrum regarding Mendy! Unlike most on this site I am playing in a draft league (price not relevant) and Mendy is available.

I’ve been playing 3-4-3 and after a trade this week my defence is:

            Digne, Emerson, Doherty, Cancelo, Zabaleta

Obviously dropping Zabaleta but who do I replace him with?

            A) Young as a short term punt
            B) Safe bet such as Mings/Tarkowski
            C) Get Mendy early (higher risk but higher reward potentially)

My thoughts, not sure how accurate they are..
I used my FT and took a hit of -4. Took out Martial as he still looks soft and can’t see him hauling. Replaced him with KDB, no brainer?
Second transfer for a hit wad to remove Moura for Ceballos. I had hard choices with Mount and Cathcart but picked the arsenal mid as I feel he has Aub (down the middle), Pepe(who I think will start in the right flank) and Laca on the left. That’s serious attacking threat and combined with Spurs leaky def and a historic game with loads of goals, I feel Ceballos will thrive

There's only one person talking nonsense here and you didn't need to see the game to know that. You started talking about creativity and switched to finishing to make your point more credible.

Creativity is hugely dependent on the finishers as well.

Not Finishing. Finishing is scoring the damn goal.

                                Creativity needs 2 smart players.

1 making the good run to a good spot, and 1 spotting the run and playing the ball.

I Think what Irbox is trying to say, you see siggy pulling off a few nice passes, that end up with a sub par forward who either cant finish them, or is the totally wrong position to make things happen. so it gets passed back.

That's a creativity problem that comes from forwards.

For me it's as simple as the Everton squad is weak and he's doing a very decent job with who he has available. He is a very, very highly rated manager in terms of technical and tactical stuff.

I wouldn’t say the squad is weak, there is a fair bit of depth in the attacking roster but we aren’t playing the correct players currently.

Richarlison, Kean, Iwobi, Sigurdsson have a lot of potential as a front 4. All at international level. We lack depth in defence that’s for sure..

Richarlison - too hot and cold. Terrible decision maker. Still a way long way to go to becoming an elite forward but yes the potential is there
Kean - Way too young. Will be a star in the future but this is a 19 year old kid who has just come from Italy and scored a grand total of 11 professional club goals.
Iwobi - I'm an Arsenal supporter. Thanks for the money. All I'm saying.
Siggy - We've seen enough of him in the premier league to know exactly what to expect. He will always have a decent tally of goals and assists at the end of the season. A good premier league level players but nothing special

I think potential is there for the future but can't see it working too well this season.

I watched Kean at Lincoln in the week, he hit the post and was involved in the move to win the penalty but beyond that, he was not great. Given Wolves have a solid defence I’d be surprised if Kean got anything this week even if does start.

Iwobi looked good though, could be a bargain at £5.9m.

Yeah I'm a lifelong Lincoln fan so was watching this match very closely! I agree with you, he had the pace to trouble our somewhat slow centre backs but other than the shot that hit the post didn't show much. We were playing very deep though so against a high line he may prosper more.

Iwobi impressed me the most, the goal was well taken and he had another shot that was only a foot wide. It was a slightly odd match in that I came away thinking the Everton attack looked ok but their defence looked poor, when in the league Everton have been showing the opposite. Maybe Lincoln are just better going forward than several premier league sides 😉

            Anybody considering Triple Captain Aguero?

I can’t think of too many matches where City are at home, Aguero is a certainty to start (and likely to play 90), against an opponent they usually beat, on the back of two goals previous fixture, is only 11/2 to score a hat trick according to bookies, yet is still owned by less than 20%?

A good triple captain haul could really make a difference against all the non owners in your mini league.

It's certainly not a bad idea. However, in 2 weeks they're home to Watford. They ould have imploded by then; on the other hand, Pep could be evil and start Jesus.

Not sure I’ve seen a team with Auba yet.

Spurs Arsenal is often a goal fest and the Arsenal fixtures are going to be great very soon. I’m holding Kane who could yet be good this week if history is any guide but also looking to swap out for either Auba or perhaps Pepe from 5/6.

Bournemouth too are right out of fashion but from 6 on they face arguably the 5 worst defences (barring their own of course). A cheap Callum is right on my radar too.

                Pukki Haller Wilson

Those Bournemouth fixtures have Watford WH Norwich Soton Arsenal - can’t see there not being goals in it for him. Not put off by SU and Villa - he returned of course and those defences seem pretty solid in contrast

Lanzini a nice differential pick, got him this week, like the look of his attacking threat so far, well capable of scoring goals as well as assisting. As long as he remains fit will start most games for Westham, but weary of his injury record also.

So VVD and Lowton or TAA and Rico? Prefer the second

So I have Aguero, Sterling, Mane and Salah on my team. Is this a good option?

My WC team with 0.2 ITB, any thoughts / changes?

Pretty fixed on the midfield and attack. Could change the defence eg Zinch out for a differential like Emerson, or switch formation but that would mean selling Mount and Dunk to get a 3rd forward in? Not sure if I could get Barnes in by doing that (for example)

            Pope (Button)
            TAA, Digne, Zinchenko (Lundstram, Dunk)
            KDB, Sterling, Salah, Mount, Cantwell
            Haller, Pukki (Greenwood)

Zinc to Emerson could be good as he has promising stats

                Tempting.

Also I switched robbo for TAA earlier this week and now might change back to gain 0.1

What should i upgrade in my team:
            Pope
            TAA, Pieters, Lundstram
            Salah, Sterling, KDB, Mount
            Haller, Rashi, Barnes
            WC is active

Looks good, you might consider rashford to pukki and upgrade a defender?
