Is David Silva the solution to doubling up on Man City attack?

The success of differential options so far this season has helped many of us get onto Fantasy Premier League bandwagons before they became fashionable.

Mason Mount (£6.2m) duly delivered in Gameweek 3 and became the latest Fantasy Football Scout differential pick to graduate into a potential template option.

His ownership has also soared by 10% in the last seven days as FPL managers seek to leverage his potential.

It’s also nice to see that two of our former picks Teemu Pukki (£7.0m) and Ashley Barnes (£6.6m) are now among the top four scoring FPL players at this early stage of the season.

Whether they can continue to punch above their weight is another question but it goes to show how important it is to identify such players early on as they begin to show glimmers of promise.

With this same aspiration, here are three low-owned players worth considering for Gameweek 4…

David Silva

David Silva could come back into fashion if he can start matches regularly for Man City

Price: £7.4m

Ownership: 4.7%

GW4 Opponent: Brighton and Hove Albion (home)

In years gone by, it would have been unthinkable to consider David Silva (£7.4m) a differential but that is exactly what he has become.

No doubt you will already have a premium attacking Manchester City asset at hand in the form of Sergio Aguero or Raheem Sterling and, if that’s the case, you may have been scratching your head over how to double-up on their attack. Silva could be the solution to that.

There aren’t many other players in FPL that have delivered at least a dozen attacking Fantasy returns (goals and assists) in the last six consecutive campaigns. In fact, over the last two seasons, he averages an attacking return for every 142 minutes played so Silva’s pedigree is clear for all to see.

However, the biggest concern over the mesmeric midfielder is rotation in this his final season at Manchester City.

It is worth noting though that Silva featured in 85% of Premier League games under Pep Guardiola, a period in which he has scored 19 goals and provided 30 assists.

With Vincent Kompany’s departure in May, David Silva is now the most senior figure in the team and, while he has made it known that he will be leaving at the end of the season, he will no doubt be looking to sign off on a high.

His two assists from last week should serve as a reminder of his potency and importance to Manchester City. It was clear that Silva was selected to help break down a stubborn Bournemouth structure, which may be important with Brighton coming to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Harry Wilson

Harry Wilson has two spectacular goals from range so far this season

Price: £6.0m

Ownership: 2.5%

GW4 Opponent: Leicester City (away)

With two goals in his last two games, it seems as if Harry Wilson (£6.0m) may be flying under the radar.

He made a name for himself under the tutelage of Frank Lampard last season in the Championship when he scored 18 goals in 49 competitive games and has made an almost instant impact with his loan stint at Bournemouth.

Of course, rotation is a concern when considering that he’s played just over 120 minutes of football in the first three Gameweeks. But during that short time he’s registered seven attempts at goal.

Can Eddie Howe really afford to bench him now when he’s so heavily involved in an attack-focused team?

Aside from competition of places in midfield, perhaps the lack of minutes can also be explained by Wilson being gradually integrated into the first-team setup. After all, he hadn’t started a single Premier League game until two weeks ago.

Buying him in FPL at this stage is obviously a calculated risk and he may only be worth considering as a genuine fifth midfield option if you’re currently set on a solid 3-5-2 or 4-5-1 formation.

Bournemouth have a generous fixture run throughout September. Before then, their next match is against Leicester who have only kept one clean sheet in their last five Premier League games. I wouldn’t put it past him to cause more havoc against the Foxes.

Joelinton

Joelinton scored the only goal of Newcastle’s win over Spurs in Gameweek 3

Price: £5.9m

Ownership: 1.8%

GW4 Opponent: Watford (home)

It definitely says a lot about a club when they have an unsettled pre-season and yet somehow defy the odds to secure their first win in a match that everyone expected them to lose.

This was in no small part to Newcastle United’s new Brazilian signing, Joelinton (£5.9m) who showed his composure by successfully converting one of his team’s three shots on target.

This backs to the wall performance showed lots of character and it may be just the platform that he and his team-mates need to build from here. At present, Joelinton has no other rivals to challenge him for his spot up top at Newcastle. With that said, he was subbed off early against Tottenham and could be a minor doubt for this weekend.

But can Steve Bruce afford to stifle Newcastle’s momentum by not picking his proven matchwinner if he is just short of 100% fitness? Hopefully, the midweek rest will be sufficient for his recovery.

The Toon Army’s next match is at home to a hapless (and winless) Watford team that have conceded seven goals in their opening three games.

It’s just the kind of match that Joelinton needs to continue to demonstrate his capabilities, even if he is unable to play the entire 90 minutes.

Lessons learned from Gameweek 3

      Pickford
      Coleman Keane Mina Digne
      Delph Gomes
      Richarlison Iwobi Bernard
      Kean

Iwobi and Kean have made a big impact and are up to speed. Coleman's place is up for grabs with Sidibe as competition. Gbamin's injury has given Delph a chance to start.

    Which is the best option?

    (A) Martial + Moura > KDB + McGinn (or up to 6.1), -4 hit

    (B) Martial > Lanzini / Fanderson, no hit

    (C) Hold FT and play Greenwood (other bench players Dendo & Rico)

1 x FT, 0.7 ITB. I’ve got Sterling & Zinc, so some City coverage.

Kane needs to stop dropping so deep IMO. Needs to be in the box shooting. Get the goals to put the opposition under pressure. If Poch thinks that Spurs lack the creativity in midfield to win then do what Liverpool do and get the full backs forward putting in loads of crosses and play a more defensive midfield to protect the CBs.

My reasoning for looking to get rid of Martial...
    -Own AWB + Rashford already
-1.2m OR do looking to gain points with some exciting differential prospects in that price range
-Lundstram coming off bench doesn’t excite me

    Is my reasoning sound there?

Furthermore which options looks best for his replacement? Have Mount.

    A) Lanzini
    B) Fanderson
    C) McGinn
    D) Cantwell
    E) Zaha

    Thanks!

So I have my martial dilemma that I’m not sure on
      My options were in order
      Maddison v (bourn)
      Fanderson v (Norw)
Bilva (likely to be a rotation risk)
      Iwobi v (wol)
and mcGinn (he’ll get booked he’s due)

I’m thinking Maddison is the best option here if I am forced for keeping them
Butttt outside of a martial price drop I might still stay on him and use a sub

I’ve owned cantwell for a while -** he’s a fantastic option short term

    VVD / Zinchenko / Digne / (KWP / Montoya)
    Sterling / Salah / Trossard / Mount / Dendoncker
    Kane / Pukki / (Wickham)

    So Martial or Mount???

I have WCd and currently have martial and prefer him to Mount however it doesnt cost anything to bring in Mount (as still WC)

    1. Do i bench martial and cover him with 2 of my bench? which 2
    a. Greenwood
    b. Cantwell
    c. Lundstram
    d. Rico

    2. Do i just swap martial for mount and keep the funds ITB

    3. do i swap martial for mount and upgrade my Defense
I currently have VVD, Digne Zinch and 2 above. would do VVD > TAA & Rico > Soya
