Jota benched and Doherty missing as Everton hand Kean and Iwobi starts

Everton take on Wolverhampton Wanderers in the penultimate Premier League fixture before the international break.

Goals have been hard to come by for these two sides this season, with no club having scored fewer than the Toffees – although Marco Silva’s side, of course, have played a game fewer than 16 other teams.

Wolves themselves have only hit the back of the net on two occasions, one of which was a stoppage-time penalty from Raul Jimenez (£7.4m) that salvaged a point against Burnley last weekend.

Jimenez starts this afternoon but for once he won’t be joined by his regular striker partner Diogo Jota (£6.4m), who is only among the substitutes.

Jota fails to start a Premier League match for the first time since Gameweek 21 of last season.

Jonny (£5.5m) and Joao Moutinho (£5.5m) are also rotated from the Europa League tie against Torino on Thursday, while Matt Doherty (£6.0m) misses out altogether.

Patrick Cutrone (£5.8m) is handed his first league start for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, while Adama Traore (£5.0m) and Ruben Vinagre (£4.4m) are trusted with the wing-back roles.

After being patient with his new signings so far, Marco Silva gives full league debuts to three of his summer recruits: Moise Kean (£6.8m), Alex Iwobi (£5.9m) and Fabian Delph (£5.4m).

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£5.9m), Bernard (£6.5m) and Morgan Schneiderlin (£4.5m) are the men to make way from the Gameweek 3 starting XI but Seamus Coleman (£5.5m) keeps his place at right-back, with Djibril Sidibe (£5.4m) only on the bench.

Lucas Digne (£6.1m), Jordan Pickford (£5.6m), Leander Dendoncker (£4.5m) and Jimenez are the only players on show at Goodison Park who are owned by more than 10% of FPL bosses, with Digne the most-popular option.

While goals have been hard to come by, the ball hasn’t been flying into the net at the other end: no club has kept more Premier League clean sheets than the Toffees (two) this season, while no side has shipped fewer goals than Everton or Wolves (two each) – although they are, of course, a game behind.

Everton XI: Pickford, Digne, Mina, Keane, Coleman, Delph, Gomes, Iwobi, Sigurdsson, Richarlison, Kean.

Wolves XI: Patrício, Bennett, Coady, Boly, Traoré, Dendoncker, Rúben Neves, Saïss, Rúben Vinagre, Jiménez, Cutrone.

This is mostly true. But Iwobi and Kolasinac developed a decent partnership at Arsenal. With that said, Iwobi may dent parts of what made Digne valuable prior to Iwobi’s arrival.

    Which WC team is better?

    A) Pope (Button)
    TAA, Digne, Pieters (Lundstrom, Söyüncü)
    Salah, Sterling, KDB, Cantwell (DENDONCKER)
    HALLER, PUKKi, Abraham

    B) Pope (Button)
    4.5, 4.5, 5.5 (Lundstrom, Rico)

In which order would you lose these 'premium' defenders?
    (need to upgrade Greenwood-Dendoncker-Hayden).

    A. AWB
    B. Coleman
    C. Zinchenko
    D. Robertson

Can make a case for all of them.

I have no big structural changes, but a few deadwood in my team

I can’t see the point of waiting for wildcard though... I feel the longer I wait the more I get priced out on the team I want...

On the other hand holding on to wildcard might help out in case template changes

Certain types of English players usually get overhyped

            E.g Scott Parker, Rashford

Certain types get undervalued because we don't appreciate what they do e.g Carrick, Delph, Lallana

        Afternoon!

Three Jota replacements I am considering.

        Barnes
        Kean
        Wood

I would advise waiting for 13 days - an awful lot of sht is going to hit an awful lot of fans over the next 2 weeks - FT's are precious & you can still do the transfer then 🙂

          But kean imo

Normally I agree with this. But this situation depends on price rises really. Jota could drop, and the others could rises.

Always have the WC in my back pocket should it go wrong.

            13 days makes me sad

I'd still advise hold - dont worry about the price rises - ignore the nagging FOMO, it is the enemy

              There'll always be options

Settle thine nerves & hold keep thine powder dry!

But what if you have a certain amount in the bank for your intended transfer, and one rise/drop prices you out, you have to do it

Then you let the price rises happen, keep the FT in the bank, and reassess in 13 days - dont let yourself get boxed in or pressured into an early decision due to a price rise/fall

Have those suggesting that City’s defence could be a write off now Laporte us injured, forgotten that Otamendi and Stones were the two mainstays at CB for the majority of the 2017/18 season?

They still present value and have more chance of a clean sheet than most teams.

Also the reason that City keep CS is very little to do with their actual defenders. It's the fact they hold the ball and it's only counter attacks they get broken down on, and that's rare enough.

While I agree the tactics and players ahead of the defenders are important I wouldn't say CS are very little to do with the defense (especially Ederson if you include the Keeper as part of the defence)

Yea, remember when the Barca defenders under Pep in the Xavi/Iniesta/Busquets era were getting plaudits. In reality they never had to defend at all. This City team is like that just not quite as extreme

They certainly have less to do than many other defenders!

But I’d say that this season they’ll have their work cut out for them.

Otamendi is a good shout and excellent value at 5.4. Zinchenko is good. To be honest Walker can play CB now that Cancelo is here. Walker being the most expensive at 6.0.

They did it without Laporte before. They’ll do it again.

for sure. Can see them conceding some goals from teams that press their back 4 however, neither Otamendi or Stones are that comfortable on the ball

Pep might have to adjust his tactics slightly to accommodate this.

Personally I don’t rate Stones at all. He’s the weakest link in that defence by far. Otamendi makes mistakes but I’m sure if they can get regular game time again they’ll get more comfortable again.

Planning a GW7 wildcard (if my team can last that long) and realising there's simply too many options.

Considering that Salah and Sterling are staying in, which of these do I go WITHOUT?

            A) De Bruyne (assists)
            B) Aguero (the king, but possible rotation)
            C) Aubameyang (great fixtures)
            D) Vardy (great fixtures from GW7)

I know De Bruyne is raking in the points now, but he will inevitably get rotated when the European games roll around. As will Aguero, added to the fact that Jesus will be back soon.

I would either go without Aguero or Kevin if you have Sterling. The other 2 are the main men in their teams and will play the majority of games.

I said confidently. Spurs were abysmal. It’s extremely unlikely that Sterling doesn’t score any points in a 4 goal route. That’s the anomaly rather than Kane blanking at home to a deep lying defensive team which has become the norm

At some point (around now) I was going to get Sterling or Kun which meant losing Vardy. Already have KDB, Salah, Pukki and quite an expensive defence including double Pool.

Now not sure what to do. Is Vardy a keeper? In which case need to downgrade some defence to get Sterling/Kun.

Any thoughts. Not doing too barley to date after good captain choices too 350k.

Be interested to know if Joe is still shipping Vardy on Wildcard if he does now WC.

Zinchenko will keep his place as long as he continues to play well. Why drop him if he plays well?

Otamendi will stay in and is a good shout. If in doubt though, Ederson is nailed.

Otamendi already nailed with Stones out. Mendy back soon.

I imagine Fernandinho will be brought in at CB.

Opponents will pump high balls into the box.

Best way for City to get clean sheets will continue to be keeping the opposition in their own half.

              Ederson button
              Robbo AWB Digne Guilbert Lunn
              Salah Sterling Moura Martial Dendonc

My worry is my SV is 99.9 and I'm going to get priced out of the top players.

                Seriously?
AWB Martial need to go. After that maybe Moura but if he plays I'd keep him.
Why would you consider WC. Chill

There are several viable Mora replacements that would give you funds for KDB. Some with good fixtures.

                      * Moura. And when I say KDB, I mean to replace Martial obviously.

Laporte and Digne to Zinchenko and TAA?

Admit the latter was a better choice and now after injury confirming it?

I will be staying away from City defesive assets with Laporte out knee injury.

                City's weakness is in defence.

I can finally give cathcart the axe, no other urgent transfers (besides getting Haller in somehow at some point)

              A) Cathcart to Kelly (in order to free up more funds for future transfers)
              B) Cathcart -> Mings (for better bench cover)

              Button
              Montoya / Robertson / TAA / Lundstram / Cathcart
              Salah / Sterling / KDB / Martial / Cantwell
              Barnes / Greenwood / Pukki

Would love to get Haller in, but reluctant to get Barnes/Pukki out - and upgrading Greenwood would require 2 extra transfers for funds

                A.
Kelly is a great pick, had him from the start and in my starting XI occasionally.

Thanks, think I got enough bench cover for the moment. Unless Kelly is moved out of the team
