How has Firmino compared to Salah and Mané so far this season?

Roberto Firmino (£9.5m) has made a strong start to the season with two goals and two assists in the first four Gameweeks.

That has made for a total of 27 points, two more than colleague Sadio Mané (£11.5m) and nine short of Mohamed Salah (£12.5m).

Such a score after four matches is made all the more impressive when we consider that Firmino is now by far the cheapest attacking option in Liverpool’s FPL ranks.

The Brazilian represents a £3.0m saving compared to Salah, and can also offer £2.0m in cash compared to Mané.

Despite his potential value, he currently sits in just 11.7% of teams while Mané is owned by 18.9% and Salah 42.9%.

With that in mind, we have assessed whether more Fantasy managers should turn to Firmino from Gameweek 5 onwards.

As this article uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those who have signed up for the 2019/20 season can access it in full.

How has Firmino compared against Salah and Mané so far?

      Marginal

That’s going to leave you really light in midfield. I like Vardy but if Martial is fit he’s a keeper in my book - 6 plus ppm

I’d look at losing a premium defender for the King upgrade.

when i don´t know for sure which way is the best it tells me no. Assume you want Vardy and 6.5 instead of KIng/Martial?
Martial is the conundrum, Vardy has nice fixtures from 9 and Leicester are a decent side so in that regards i would be willing to say yes, 6.5mid Lanzini perhaps, for WHs nice run. Looking at your team, Vardy could be nice cap option perhaps, so long term yes.

If martial was injury free then I wouldn't be making any move, I'd save transfer as think there's good points coming in defense and realistically that needs downgrade to boost mid/forward.

It's just martial is injured... again...

Not sure why this year on the transfer page when you add players to your squad temporarily there is no orange/yellow highlight around the player you’ve added.

This is on the FPL website using the mobile version.

Any way of improving this WC team? 0.5 ITB for James to Tielemans or Lanzini if required. Going Aguero over Sterling.

    Pope
    TAA VVD Digne Otamendi
    Salah KDB Mount James
    Aguero Pukki
    Button Lundstram Hayden Greenwood

Super heavy on defense but good squad strength I suppose. Hayden > Cantwell. That extra bench strength is good in case of rotation. There are a number of players there that mightn't play in any given week because of fixture congestion.

pretty much as good as it gets, the choice of the City defender is tough, double Pool defence could be trimmed to get maybe Söyüncü to free up some cash and enable Tammy maybe

Tammy, Mount, Pukki and James as starting picks really does give a good basis to develop the rest of the squad

I'm on a wildcard and can't settle on what formation to use and where to put the budget. Is the smart, flexible way forward to go for a Premium Striker or the more settled Sterling, Salah, KdB midfield with cheaper forwards?

    The rough sketch, option 1

    Pope 4.0
    TAA, Digne, 5.0- 5.5 / 4.5 and Lundstram
    Sterling, Salah, KdB, 6.0-6.5ish / 4.5
    Haller, Pukki, 6.5ish

    Option 2
    Pope 4.0
    TAA, Digne, 5.0-5.5 / 4.5 and Lundstram
    Salah, KdB, 7.0, 6.0 / 4.5
    Aguero, Haller, Pukki

Option 2 gives me the option to go for different premium strikers dependeing on form/fixtures but depends more on "cheap" midfielders to deliver.

Option 1 feels safer but quite template. Would be easier to manage I think as the midfield trio is settled. But I will have to get the mid/cheap forwards right.

Any input would be much appreciated!

Not super set on defence, but these players suit both team types quite well. Salah is currently not in my team, but will probably take either Agueros or Sterlings place.
A Salah/Sterling/Aguero/KdB-team would be to compromised in all other positions so one of the 12m+ must go.

I don't think Sterling is optional personally. I think he'll score more than Salah this season. Aguero meanwhile can easily get rotated with Jesus as early as next week, and even if he starts, he'll get hauled off on 65-70 mins every game once Jesus is back. Coupled with the fact he gets fewer points for goals and no CSs, he will not be worth 12.0m this season.

Prefer 2 - are you prepared to captain KdB? I don’t see an issue there.

Like 2 as it opens up Auba Vardy Kane.

Think we’ve been spoiled early season with both Pukki and Barnes. I imagine both are going to regress. Finding form replacements could be tough - very easily to hop on unreliable Mitro types and burn transfers. At the very least I’d want two 7.5 slots there.

My view on this is Kun is there for the taking next two GW, as Jesus is injured and Pep will play his in-form striker who´s rested during ib, and when City have Everton in GW7 and other teams like Spurs, Leicester and Arsenal goes on a nice run, i would then sacrifying one City spot to get for example Vardy and Son/Pepe. It might not be the safest way, but as much as Sterling can damage you, it could be also the other way round. Not everyone agrees, but if Arsenal click and you have chosen Pepe and Arsenal is on TV i for onelikes to have the option to have invested in one of them players. es, problem could be if everyone caps Sterling and he hattricks, but at the same time you have MO, who can get you half of Sterlings points and if one of your Vardy´s or Pepe gets you a haulthen you are even.

Do you mean that you would go for Aguero/KdB/Salah for GW 5-6? And then decide if you want to switch Aguero to Sterling in a double transfer?

Another route would be to go without Salah and run with all of the top City boys until it becomes more clear which one to drop to get in Salah.

Option 2 front 3 is going to be points galore plus if Aguero's minutes somehow get reduced then you can replace him with Vardy and upgrade one of your midfielders.

hm, keep Auba and lei fixtures turn soon, hm, i would wait. United away and Spurs home is not the worst imo. Jota should be on his way out, and might be diff to get him out if not downgrading elsewhere? Jota plays Chelsea next and he will start, so guess it might not hurt to wait? You got 2 FT or 1?

Saving FT this gw. If i have nothing important next gw i am willing to swap Rico to Hanley as he can give 1/2 pointers if needed. 3 rd bench player obviously.
Selected Rico on WC last gw but not sure about his chances of playing

I'm actually looking at 9 good players + 1 dead spot of Button.
Then rotation of 5 players for remaining 2 spot's after gw 9:
Lundstram Dunk Cantwell Donkey (?) Hanley/4.5 if possible.
              So ....

Getting rid of Salah opens up some really interesting opportunities. I know it's often seen as madness, but:

        A) Salah + Cantwell (Bench Greenwood)
        B) Firmino + Haller (Bench Cantwell)

If you intend to just cap Sterling most weeks, B will score better right and give you a better bench?

Bobby F covers Liverpool though in Salah's absence, and this article points out that his role this season seems more like a traditional CF than Firmino's past of being a link-up guy.

                True

I just think Vardy will get his 20 goals this season easily. He’s the spearhead of an attacking side that looks more top 4 than either Chelsea or United. Fixtures from 9 are brilliant and he’s amazing value right now - especially as he’s on a roll and close to fixture proof.

I would have to play Cantwell or Lunstram every week.

            Current squad:

            Pope
            VvD Zinchenko Digne Lundstram (Montoya)
            Salah Sterling Mount Trossard (Dendo)
            Kun Pukki (Greenwood)

Trossards now yellow flagged. If ruled out, would you ship him out or just use the bench (Montoya) and assess the week after?

Would use Montoya this GW. I have almost the same squad but started with Rico over Lundtram so Trossard is a bit more of a concern for me. Am considering Ceballos or Daniel James as a replacement.

Currently sitting - slightly uncomfortably - on the really big City front 3. It’s a 2 week play probs and I’m expecting an unwelcome double up in either 5 or 6

Looking forward I’m looking to lose either Kun or Sterling to get Ota Mendy or Walker from 7.

            Notionally looking at these:

A Sterling Pukki > Son Vardy with Kun
B Kun McGinn > Auba Tielemans/Mount with Sterling
C Kun Martial > Son Vardy with Sterling

Not broken yet but feel Vardy in particular is such good value for points when you factor in City defence that it could work to put out a more balanced team.

City are great but there’ll be weeks where they do just score 2!!!!

GW9 on is when I’m most interested- these aren’t immediate moves at all.

That said he does have that top 6 record and arguably Newcastle like SU may be a poor fixture in comparison

Not essential, since it's all about value given you have three other captainable big hitters as captain. That being said, I'm trying to convince myself that I still should keep him. You might still gain by dropping one of them to fund KDB.

KDB is pretty much essential this season imo. Underpriced, will easily get you 200+ points if he stays fit.

At the moment no. Aguero, Sterling and Pukki have outpointed him so far, Salah is level, even David Silva has outscored him over the last two game weeks. No doubt an incredible option tho.

I think the biggest differential this season will be having faith in your big hitters long term instead of swapping them out every 2 weeks and wasting transfers/spending points on hits.

Salah Sterling Kdb.. And swap out of injuries. Done. Ppl tend to get bored and overanalyse everything after 1 or 2 blanks which will happen to every premium player in the game over the season

There was an article I read during preseason which basically concluded that the best way to score the most points in FPL is to transfer the big hitters around in time while keeping the mid to low priced assets intact without changing much.

More patience with the likes of C. Wilson and little patience with the likes of Harry Kane. 😀

The likes of C Wilson score against easier opposition and in streaks of form(else theyd be priced premium too). The likes of Kane etc can score vs anyone. So timing when to switch them out is virtually impossible though if you somehow get it correct it could work. It's more easier to predict points from cheaper options thouhh.. BTW I just used Wilson and Kane as examples since you used them. Would prefer comparing salah to a sub 8.5 mid

Hasnt played much for the national team as well, so you think he would love to get some minutes there against the likes of San Marino.

                  Rotating back threes

I usually go for 3 premium defenders but can't see the value over the next few weeks. Liverpool fixtures are about to turn harder, man utd have tougher defensive fixtures (I still think they will do much better than last season in general), Everton not looking solid and man city attacking assets too valuable to sacrifice more than 1 slot...

What's your best combos for 3 4.5m or less defensive rotations (1 spot)?

For me, I feel like soyuncu is the one that really opens it up, as Leicester are actually a reasonable side, comparable to likes of wolves and Everton. Would have been 5m/5.5m if priced now.

Lundstram too in a not too shabby defensive team playing in midfield.

Then looking at the gaps, Newcastle feel like a decent option - hoping one of their defenders drops to 4.4m (both lascelles/Willems close to drop). Norwich also an option but don't like them defensively at all!

For the next 10 that combo gets you:
SOU BRI NEW wat BUR sou BUR BOU bri EVE

                  Anyone got a better rotation?

Been advocating it ever since I activated my WC. Think your combo is the best one for CSs. I had an attacking one of Lundstram, Aarons and Montoya all playing high up the pitch and offering amazing attacking threat. Söyüncü looks a great option alongside willems and

Ah I like that, a bit more fun! Yeah torn on Willems, he's the best option for maybe 4 gameweeks but then he will probably lose his place to Ritchie unless Bruce changes formation to 4atb and don't really want to be faffing about with transfers of effectively a sub most of the time. Lascelles might be better at 4.4m as would see/hope dummett first to lose spot if fernandez/lejeune come in/go 4atb. But dull!

You'd only start newcastle def twice in that run so would probably just go Lundstram/Soyuncu + filler
(playing Lundstram vs eve, Soyuncu vs ARS)

Anyone know the likelyhood of Barkley and Stones playing GW5? Pedro is 50% fit and could stones get a decent run at the back?

The above article has prompted me to look at the real value of expensive fantasy assets.
Taking into consideration one could captain 2 high rollers say holding Salah and Sterling; if you applied average captaincy points, The two have scored 37 and 36 points respectively. Add the captaincy and the average haul over the season so far would be 108 points. This is generous as they have frustrated by scoring points at the wrong times if you chose the logical captain. Add another player for 7 mil to get to 31 mil and chose wisely (Pukki or Barnes) your points total shoots to 145.
However, if you spread your wealth and chose only one and took on KDB and Firmino say at a cost of 31 mil you would find yourself in a similar boat.
Sterling Salah and a 7 mil Player is very similar to Salah KDB and Firmino. The chances are by now you would be owning the performing Pukki anyway so it boils down to how you use the extra 2 mil in your team.
Once again it comes down to a relatively luck captain pick to indicate where you are atm.
I would love to see how everyone would be if there was no captain pick.

                    1. Christina.

My capt picks have been: 24,12,4,6

                      yet rank 1.6k

                      strange season

                        You are doing great.
Who is the player that has made so much difference.
I am happy where I am at 100k but made some poor decisions already.
Martial until injured, Firmino, getting Pukki early and Digne have helped.
Double Pool dense ok week 1 but let me down thereafter and moved 1 out was not a good call.
Lund and Cantwell on the bench also hurt. 40 points on the bench so far.
SalaH 24 , Salah 6, Sterling 16 and Maane 8 not bad but there were much bigger earners I missed.

Dunk Cantwell and Pukki you got the most out of Auba and Kun I like but my spread would not allow it.
Goes to show Salah not essential.
Good luck for the rest of the season.

THe way I like to look at it is , if going one big hitters for season captain, simply multiply value by 2. If going two big hitters like e.g. Salah, and captaining more or less equally, multiply value by 1.5, as picking the wrong one any given GW should even out. Then compute value of

                      [2 x ExpectedPoints(1 x Big hitter) +expected points(2 x mid priced)]/(total price of the three)
                      versus
                      [1.5 x ExpectedPoints(2 Big hitters) +expected points(1 x mid priced)]/(total price of the three)

within given slice of budget over the period you want to look at (typically until planned WC). RMT actually does this for you - if you believe their points rating, that is...

If playing tarks every week yes. He will get a goal soon but you could miss out on a goal if you rotate. Lowton is better value if rotating. If that makes any sense

Sold Bobby prior to GW4 and a bit sorry I did despite getting Aguero in! Guess I made my bed and will go without LIV attack now for the short term at least.
The captaincy was key to my decision, rightly or wrongly, as I wouldnt be captaining a LIV attacker for the forseeable which took value away from Salah and Mane imo especially considering City's fixtures.

Morning everyone. I took on board some great points made here yesterday morning and have re-jigged my wildcard squad. What do you guys think of this ensemble:

                    Pope Button
                    TAA Otamendi Coleman Zouma Lundstram
                    DeBryne Mane Pépé Martial Lanzini
                    Wilson Abrahams Greenwood

                    Playing formation will largely be
                    3-5-2
