Meet the Manager #17 – Always Cheating’s Josh Landon

Last season’s finish of 1,224 was Josh Landon’s third within the top 5,000 during his nine-year Fantasy Premier League career.

But the Always Cheating podcast co-host’s campaigns haven’t always looked so easy.

In Joe’s latest Meet the Manager interview he finds out Josh’s strategies for success and how he has learned from his mistakes.

The demons of what he calls “that Yaya Toure and Aaron Ramsey season” loom large in his thinking years on. This has helped him snap up emerging bandwagons quickly, and especially before they become the template.

Other ghosts from the past such as Watford striker Odion Ighalo are also revealed during Josh and Joe’s chat about how psychology affects Fantasy managers’ decisions.

As listeners to Josh’s podcast will know, the eye test is crucial to his decision making. After all, the best manager to trust is often ourselves, as Josh describes how he navigates his way through the noise of FPL content, most notably on social media.

Latest football trends, which defenders to select and the ability to spot when a Fantasy game is “throwing a bone” are also explored in detail during this latest episode of a series that began last season to focus on the thoughts of managers with a stellar track record of success.

The chat with Josh is available to view on Youtube here and in the embedded video below.

It is also available on Soundcloud and through other notable podcast outlets. Embedded versions of these are also available below.

Salah and Kun best captain options.

Reckon Salah, Aguero and KDB is the place to be.

          Just my thoughts though.

Alternative option here as I may go Sterling/Dilva/KDB

Experienced guard of City who will be feeding Kun his goals (4 points v 3) and every chance of a cleanie bonus point. I know you can't 'cover' anyone but you can't have them all. Sterling ownership concerns me...

Other options you have for that transfer:
          1. Barnes or Haller this GW
          2. Save and get Pukki next GW or Abraham in the next two GWs

There's no need to spend extra on Wilson. At all

I'd do that move, yes. Lundstram plays at least whilst Rico doesn't.

=> I'd play: Lundstram & Pukki, bench Cantwell.

Asked the exact same question on the previous page, two replies said I should do it.

I'm also considering rolling it, and doing Virgil, Greenwood -> Lund, Barnes next week to get Barnes at home to Norwich.

I think the point is that it's a good transfer, but not necessarily better than what you could manage with 2 FTs

Yeah I have toyed with it. Or bench one of my Everton defenders for him but they both look like attacking returns in the last few games. Still feel like I should favour the attacker.

Are Palace the completely anti FPL team?

They’re 4/5th highest scorers this calendar year but you wouldn’t want any attacking assets.

They dent top 6 records at home and are generally great away - on a completely unpredictable level that defies XG and XGC.

Then there is the Selhurst Park effect. Despite the 8 goal extravaganza on the last day last season there’s an almost complete absence of goals there. One from two matches so far is just par for the course.

There’s an argument I suppose for their defence if you hold long enough they’ll get a dozen or so cs. The record of Guaita and first choice cbs is immense - but only against non top 6. That pretty much rules them out for the foreseeable

    1. MC Hammer
      • 11 Years
      4 years, 6 months ago

I am interested in their defence without paying too much, Kelly or Ward?

        • 5 Years

        Ward is tied on.

Fixtures for defence look foul though. Top 6 (as was) and the most attacking sides of the rest (bar Wolves instead of Bournemouth) in the next 9.

would be shocked if palace got 12cs again

      1. pingissimus
        • 5 Years
        4 years, 6 months ago

        Why?

AWB out of course but Guaita in. Guaita has an immense record and made all the difference last season. Check how Palace did with him in compared to Hennessey - AWB was a constant of course

50% cs record against non top 6 provided one first choice CB playing. He was the top goalie in Spain outside Barca and RM before that. His ownership is laughable really.

Midfield is quite possibly better this time around too.

The defensive record is long-standing and predated AWB - it’s much more about systems than personnel.

      2. MC Hammer
        • 11 Years

    A. Keep the current three for now

    D. Zinchenko, Digne and Trossard to 2 cheap df and KdB (-4)

De Bruyne is rightly being talked up, he's probably the best midfielder in the world right now, but he's started three games this season alongside David Silva - KDB has scored 25 points, Silva has 23, so it kinda depends how many minutes you think Silva will get going forward. Haller no doubt a much better option than Ayew too.

It really does depend on D.Silva's security in starts, if I was sure, or brave I'd go for him cause I think he can keep pace with KDB if not just off and then Haller is a significant upgrade on Ayew who is more rotation/bench fodder

I went against the grain on her and brought A in this week so have A and B, can easily move to Halller, Abraham or Barnes, or Vardy in two moves

Boly is rotting on my bench for this weekend and want to get rid anyway.

    Would anyone on here go

Sterling and Boly to KDB and Digne then I do not have to play Lund GW5?

Have Aguero, Salah, TAA and VVD.

    Thoughts?
