Emerson speaks out after injury scare as Pukki scores again

Our international Scout Notes continue with a recap of Sunday’s matches.

As usual, we will be concentrating on only Premier League players as we keep an eye on minutes played, form and injuries.

Subscribers can view data on some of the matches listed below in our Members’ Area, with details available here.

Finland 1-2 Italy

  • Teemu Pukki (£7.0m) – 90 minutes
  • Jorginho (£5.0m) – 90 minutes
  • Emerson Palmieri (£5.5m) – 8 minutes

Emerson Palmieri (£5.5m) is an injury doubt for Gameweek 5 after limping out of Italy’s win over Finland on Sunday with a suspected hamstring problem.

The Chelsea left-back lasted just eight minutes of the match in Tampere but provided words of reassurance for his owners after full-time, Tweeting:

Very important victory today, guys. Unfortunately I had a small injury, but it’s nothing serious.

Italy boss Roberto Mancini added:

It was nothing serious, he stopped to ensure it didn’t get any worse.

Frank Lampard will hopefully provide us with an update on the defender later this week but Marcos Alonso (£6.2m) will be on standby for a recall should the Italy international fail to recover.

Emerson suffered his injury when chasing down Norwich City’s Teemu Pukki (£7.0m), who played the full 90 minutes.

The Finn had few chances in a game dominated by the visitors but kept up his fine run of form by winning and converting a 72nd-minute penalty to briefly draw his country level.

The Norwich striker has only failed to score in one of six matches for club and country this season, following his goal from the spot in the 1-0 win over Greece last Thursday.

The identity of Norwich’s first-choice penalty-taker remains uncertain following the woes from 12 yards last season: five different City players, including Pukki, took at least one spot-kick in 2018/19 and each missed once.

Pukki fizzed a shot narrowly wide of Gianluigi Donnarumma’s post just after half-time in his only other attempt of the match.

The Canaries’ striker returns to Carrow Road in plenty of time for Gameweek 5, having racked up 175 minutes of action over the international break.

Jorginho (£5.0m) completed 90 minutes for the second time in four days and was also on target from the spot to hand Italy the win, although the budget FPL midfielder seems to be further down the pecking order from 12 yards at Stamford Bridge.

The Chelsea midfielder was booked for a foul on Pukki in the first half.

Spain 4-0 The Faroe Islands

  • David de Gea (£5.6m) – 90 minutes
  • Rodri (£5.5m) – 90 minutes
  • Dani Ceballos (£5.7m) – 0 minutes
  • Kepa Arrizabalaga (£5.5m) – 0 minutes

There was positive news for owners of Dani Ceballos (£5.7m) as the Arsenal midfielder was handed a breather for the routine victory over the Faroe Islands on Sunday.

Having played 77 minutes in the win over Romania on Thursday, Ceballos was an unused substitute in Gijon for this latest match.

Kepa Arrizabalaga (£5.5m) was also on the bench, meaning that not one of the four Premier League-based Spain internationals on duty over the last week has played more than 90 minutes.

David de Gea (£5.6m) and Rodri (£5.5m), who both watched on from the sidelines in Bucharest, were recalled to the starting XI and had a comfortable evening against the Euro 2020 qualification Group F minnows.

De Gea had only two saves to make, both of which were from shots taken from outside the box.

Georgia 0-0 Denmark

  • Kasper Schmeichel (£5.0m) – 90 minutes
  • Andreas Christensen (£5.0m) – 90 minutes
  • Christian Eriksen (£8.8m) – 90 minutes
  • Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (£4.9m) – 73 minutes
  • Philip Billing (£5.0m) – 0 minutes

Denmark were left frustrated as they drew a blank in Tbilisi on Sunday, with Christian Eriksen (£8.8m) producing a below-par display.

The Spurs midfielder, playing in the number ten role, recorded three key passes but his set-piece deliveries were once again found wanting.

Kasper Schmeichel (£5.0m) and Andreas Christensen (£5.0m) had a relatively quiet 90 minutes at the back as the Leicester goalkeeper was forced into making only one save.

Eriksen, Schmeichel and Christensen played all 180 minutes of Denmark’s two Euro 2020 qualifiers over the international break.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (£4.9m) was part of a two-man central midfield for the Danes and lasted 73 minutes before being withdrawn.

The Southampton midfielder’s services may be required at left-back in Gameweek 5, with Kevin Danso (£4.5m) suspended and Ryan Bertrand‘s (£4.9m) availability still uncertain.

Bournemouth’s Philip Billing (£5.0m) was an unused substitute.

Switzerland 4-0 Gibraltar

  • Fabian Schar (£5.0m) – 90 minutes
  • Albian Ajeti (£5.9m) – 90 minutes
  • Granit Xhaka (£5.4m) – 74 minutes

Switzerland cantered to victory against Gibraltar on Sunday but the win may have come at the cost of an injury to Granit Xhaka (£5.4m).

The much-maligned Arsenal midfielder limped gingerly from the field of play on 74 minutes but downplayed the problem afterwards, saying:

I’ve been suffering from Achilles tendon pain for a few weeks now. It hurts now, but it should be okay otherwise.

Fabian Schar (£5.0m) and Albian Ajeti (£5.9m) both lasted the full 90 minutes but a home match against European minnows is ideal from a Fantasy owners’ perspective, given the lack of exertion required.

Centre-half Schar was indeed busier at the other end of the field, having three attempts on goal of his own and assisting Switzerland’s second goal with a superb cross from the left flank.

Despite his advanced role on the left of the visitors’ three-man attack, Ajeti was responsible for just two of Switzerland’s 40 shots.

Xhaka created five chances and supplied the assist for his country’s opener with a cross from a corner.

Sweden 1-1 Norway

  • Victor Lindelof (£5.4m) – 90 minutes
  • Emil Krafth (£4.5m) – 0 minutes
  • Joshua King (£6.4m) – 90 minutes

Victor Lindelof (£5.4m) came up against Joshua King (£6.4m) in the all-Scandinavian affair, with both players lasting 90 minutes.

King was more advanced than we are used to seeing at Bournemouth and registered a match-high four attempts on goal, all of which were from inside the Sweden box.

Lindelof has played a full three hours for his country over the last week, while King was withdrawn early in the 2-0 win over Malta on Thursday.

Emil Krafth (£4.5m) was an unused substitute on Sunday and returns to Newcastle United having played just 45 minutes over the international break.

Armenia 4-2 Bosnia and Herzegovina

  • Sead Kolasinac (£5.4m) – 90 minutes
  • Mohamed Besic (£4.5m) – 80 minutes

It was a familiar-sounding match for Sead Kolasinac (£5.4m) on Sunday, with the Arsenal full-back part of a suspect defence but getting forward plenty down the left flank to support the attack.

It was from Kolasinac’s run and cross that Amer Gojak tapped in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s second equaliser to bring the scores level at 2-2.

Arsenal’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan, now on loan at Roma, played a hand in all four of Armenia’s goals, scoring twice.

Mohamed Besic (£4.5m), one of the alternatives to John Lundstram (£4.2m) that Chris Wilder has on the books at Sheffield United, played 80 minutes for the visitors and picked up a yellow card.

Greece 1-1 Liechtenstein

  • Sokratis Papastathopoulos (£5.0m) – 90 minutes

Greece’s recent track record of posting some embarrassing results continued with a 1-1 draw with Liechtenstein on Sunday.

Arsenal centre-half Sokratis Papastathopoulos (£5.0m) played the full 90 minutes and had little defending to do as the hosts dominated possession but the Group J minnows struck on the counter-attack with five minutes to go – a backtracking Sokratis unable to catch Dennis Salanovic – to salvage their first point of Euro 2020 qualifying.

Which pair do you think will score most points over the next 5 gameweeks?

Yeah. Already have Sterling and Salah so likely be one of them. Currently on C but very tempted by Auba/Kane

Does anyone have a link or their own analysis of haller/pukki/Abraham choices. Only have room for 2 (and think wise to be able to jump off if incorrect) but can afford any of them. Feel like on wildcard starting with abraham/haller safest cost wise and downgrading if don't live up to hype over next 3, or is pukki just an outright better option?

      Way I see it is:
Team goals scored: Chelsea > West Ham > Norwich.

Player goal involvement, all between 40-50% while on pitch:
Pukki most goals, Haller similar goal involvement but more of those assists, Abraham a bit less.
Minutes: Haller/Pukki will miss very few, Abraham might be at 80%?

      Based on this:
Haller>Pukki>Abraham, but Abraham with highest ceiling?

chelsea are in more competitions than the other two and giroud is legitimate competition, so i think 80% is quite optimistic. chelseas next two games are against two good defences and if he blanks twice, or doesn't start one of the games, he'll plummet in value.

hard to call haller vs pukki but after this week norwich fixtures are better than west ham both short and medium term, and he's quite a bit cheaper.

I see what you're saying and largely agree but I guess the counter argument is he scores vs wolves, giroud plays champions league, rise and certainty of starts continue

      Haller and Pukki.

CL starting next week so there's scope for rotation. And while Abraham has scored 4 goals, they've come against Norwich and Sheffield.

As soon as Chelsea suffered defeats in Utd then Pool, Giroud started the next game.

I think I know that's the sensible thing deep down. Abraham feels like a sexier pick than pukki but probably makes more sense.

if I had no cash tied up and was starting afresh I’d go Haller Tammy. Pukki isn’t quite so fun at 7.0 as 6.5

They’re all focal points of attacking sides with good to reasonable fixtures but Chelsea and WH are simply better sides. Leaking goals could impact Norwich quite soon.

(Have Pukki and mean to hold awhile but Tammy looks a very decent bet)

I had to make an early call on wildcard and banked 0.2m from pukki, and will make 0.1m on abraham if rises again so will lose 0.1m TV but gain 0.1SV so swings and roundabouts. If I go pukki I can't easily swap back

Truthfully I’d go Callum Wilson and Haller if budget stretches that far. Gorgeous fixtures coming up and returning already while not hitting form.

The job WH did on Norwich bothers me as a Pukki owner - you don’t really associate WH with shutting teams down so if they can do it ...

I think Pukki's is an outright better option until he falls off a cliff... And when that happens, it's actually an easy transfer out

      As for Haller vs Tammy:

Thanks that's helpful. I may still go with abraham over pukki for the next week if the rises/falls happen I'm hoping for to not affect my team otherwise (otherwise may not have the choice!), but then swap out one of the two in a subsequent week. Just provides a little more thinking time if I can afford the luxury...

I wouldn't prioritise abraham mate not convinced so far and never shown any consistency.

Why barnes isn't in your list.
I think it's the top priority our of these 3 (4 with him in)

I dunno, I was banging on about him pre season (honest! He was first person in my team as perfect overlooked steady player until Rodriguez came onto scene and wood started scoring loads preseason which put me off) and I think he will provide good value, but still think him n wood will more equally share points from here on in (slightly more towards barnes, but they've played together for years, that is a better sample than 4 games), and Burnley will score less than all those teams, with slightly lower goal involvement from Barnes than the other 2. He will get subbed for Rodriguez more than haller and pukki will.

The logic of abraham for me is that, whoever plays no9 for Chelsea over the last year has xgi of between 0.6-0.8 per 90 minutes. This trend continues (in fact abraham is higher than this). Chelsea have scored and had chances on trend as per the fixture difficulties in comparison to how they performed last year (ie scoring quite a few). Therefore, the dilemma is one of minutes rather than anything else... But maybe I'm being wishful in terms of reduced rotation threat after last 2 games

I tend to agree but with CL starting I'm staying clear. For me Pukki and Haller were definite and Barnes v TammyA I scratched my head over but security of starts with no Europe swings it for me.

Although I admit the small price difference was also a factor when it came to my overall options for my side.

You have made your mind anyway when you sold Pukki for Abraham 🙂 And for this week Abraham is better pick due to opponent. Supposing no injuries elsewhere you can always "downgrade" Abraham to Pukki later if necessary. So no need to overthink now.

Personally I would have kept Pukki on wc. What I don't understand is why on earth did you sell him in the first place. Was he actually the only way to fund Abraham price rise on WC?

    Pope, Mcgovern
    VVD,Digne,Soyuncu,Montoya,Lund
    Salah,Sterling,Lanzini, Trossard, Dend
    Vardy, Pukki, Wilson

    2FT, 0,9 itb
Trossard out if injured seems obvious
Not sold on any of Trossard straight swaps
But feels so wrong to transfer Digne/VVD > Otamendi to upgrade Trossard.
    Anything obvious I am missing?

This is a tricky one. I'd look at a straight swap personally, but you could also look at using the FT on a short-term punt instead. I normally wouldn't endorse this, but your team looks very solid and you have good cover for this week, so it could be worth it.

This or Greenwood to 4.4 for an extra 0.1 whenever you need it... Maybe buy Greenwood back if Ole ever considers him a starter somewhere down the line, like CHO last season. He's a 1-pointer, and you have two better subs than him who are much more nailed, so the third striker can become a 3rd sub and save the useful 0.1

I can get him instead of VVD, but then I can't jumo from Barnes to Pukki/Abraham if they start scoring and Barnes starts blanking. This 0.6 ITB are percautionary measure, but do you think they would be better spent on TAA ?

I have both and right now i am sitting Dunk and playing Lundstram. Just believe SHU have a better chance at a CS. Lundstram may have a slight at the offensive end also.

    Apart from Newcastle (h)

Anyone think on a WC it’s worth gambling on no Liverpool defence for next 6/7 weeks?

    Looking to go
    2 x arsenal
    3 x city
    Son
    Salah
    Or just madness

I think a Salah is a considerably better option for just one mil more but depends on the rest of your team and if taking a hit. But I believe Salah is worth 2m more than Mané and so is better value.

        Pope
        Zinchenko, Robbo, VVD, Shaw, Rico

I need to be rid of Shaw (5.4). Dont really want to double up on Burnley despite their fixtures. Leicester has a terrible run.

I'm on Sterling at the moment. Will see how many minutes he gets tonight. If I knew for sure that he would start against Norwich I would definitely captain him over Salah so I don't want to change it on the off chance that he's rested. Keeping it on him is a bit of a risk but if he starts I think he'll outscore Mo.

I'm on similar defence structure to you (to enable martial and Mount in my case). Digne is an awkward one. If you really want him, Mount + downgrade of one ayew/pieters/soyuncu to base cost and third playing sub would get you there? But agree maddison is appealing over the cheaper options...

Hence why I used the word natural. Zinchenko is already playing LB. A 4-day gap is all a professional footballer needs this early in the season. Starting at the weekend won't burn him out. Not saying he'll definitely play, just laying out the factors as they are.
