Scoutcast Episode 300 – Spartans

After around a decade of shows the Scoutcast has reached the momentous 300 episode mark.

From its origins, when Mark and Granville used to find time to podcast during their lunch break at work, to the live stream video version of today, the Scoutcast has long been a staple part of Fantasy manager’s lives.

But while the cast and technology has changed the issues remain the same.

One of these recurring themes has been the arguments that greet any cast member’s decision to Wildcard. This week’s show, ahead of Gameweek 5, is no different.

Knowing full well what may happen Joe tentatively presents his team overhaul to co-hosts Az and Neale. In Scoutcast tradition he then has defend his decisions, like one of the 300 Spartans who famously took on an army more than 2,000 years ago.

Elsewhere, the crew take a look back at some of the many mistakes and small successes of Gameweek 4 and how they plan to turn their fortunes around this coming weekend.

Kevin De Bruyne’s captaincy credentials, the best clean sheet prospects and Arsenal’s fixtures are among issues on the bill.

The crew also reveal what factors they use when making decisions, which covers everything from the growth of expected stats to the eye and even ‘ear test’.

Meanwhile, Neale’s differential shout for September and October ensures the arguments continue.

This episode wraps up with a tribute to an unlikely Scoutcast star over the years and details of how to help the charity that originally looked after him.

This Scoutcast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel. Be sure to subscribe to get notified of future live episodes.

Anyone else watch the full City-Brighton game? MOTD highlights didn't show all Brighton's chances / good positions. watching it towards the end with Zinchenko's CS in the balance wasn't fun at all, and they even got in a couple of times in the first half before City ran away with it.

Anything similar to that vs Norwich, and I'd back Pukki to slot one away.

His argument makes 0 sense. Everyone has that same problem of post Intl. Break team unsettled-ness.

If you think Sterling is nailed on and will start vs Norwich, get him. If you don't/are unsure, which I am, go Salah. Salah is the safe option this week for sure.

For me, yes. KDB capable of getting 2+ assists/game every flipping week. Take into account the City fixtures on the way and it's a no brainer. Kane out. Maybe Walker to Lowton for a Burnley double up too? Top of the ticker for next few weeks.

It's on KDB currently. Salah having a week of good training and time at home with his family makes me agree with you though. Have missed his double digit hauls by captaining Sterling twice already this season.

As a very good FPL person what do you think of my dilemma on the previous page? To save you the clicks it is A) Salah + Schar (part of a perfect 3 way rotation with Söyüncü and Lundstram) vs B) Mane + Digne (also with soy and Lund but need strong bench due to TAA and Ota “rotation risks”

Would mean a lot thanks x

That's tough, I like Salah this week and he'll be my captain, plus that defensive rotation looks appealing, but I'd try and make it simple.

How often will you captain Salah over say, the next 8 game weeks?

If often, go for him and Schar.

If not very often, go Digne and Mane would be my advice.

                      Good luck!

My goalies are Ederson & Ryan, plannign to free up funds by downgrading Ederson to a 4.0 goalie. What are your thoughts?

          A) Ederson > Button (2.2 itb)
          C) AWB > Otamendi (0.3 itb)
          B) Ederson & AWB > Button & Otamendi (2.3 itb, -4 hit)

Also planning to do Martial & Greenwood > Maddison & 7.4 striker in coming weeks, most likely when there's a turn in fixtures. Just trying to figure out what order to do things in!

Seen people benching Pukki - am i missing something? Red hot form, home to city who have haven't looked particularly tight at the back and who will also have their best centre back missing....can easily see a high scoring game with Pukki pinching one.

Sure but I don't see him easily pinching one, so can understand those preferring to play someone else.

Each to their own I suppose. I just never see the point in benching a striker (unless he's bench fodder) for a defender or midfielder.

Ordinarily I'd agree, but not necesarily vs mci/liv (there were similar statements about Barnes 4G in 3 ahead of Liverpool). But if it's rolling the dice on Pukki vs. any likely 2pt def/mid then for sure I'd play Pukki.

Feel like such a maverick having him on the bench right now. Out of Pukki (MCI), Jota (CHE), Lundstram (SOU) and McGinn (WHU) who would you bench?

City have conceded just 13 goals in 21 away league games since the beginning of last season, can’t see it being high scoring for Norwich, but you never know with Laporte out.

I do agree to a certain extent, think if there's 6 goals in the game it will prob be 5-1 or 4-2 to city.

I just don't think they look that tight, their clean sheets seem to start really racking up during the business end of the season.

Norwich clearly want to attack and City won't be setting out to stop them.

Would you take a hit to get rid joelinton for Barnes

Or haller if I choose to get pieters instead of otamendi as laporte replacement?

                Pope, Button
                VVD, TAA, Zinchenko, Digne, Lundstram
                Sterling, Salah, Mount, Cabellos, Dendonk
                Vardy, King, Greenwood

                1.7m in the bank

Was thinking a straight swap Vardy > Haller due to Leicester fixtures, which would give me 3.1m in the bank (although not sure what to spend it on the week after)

Another alternative would be to do Vardy > Aguero and find the 1.5m needed by downgrading VVD to a 5m defender for a 4 point hit.

                Any thoughts appreciated

Pope over Adrian for sure. He's the best Burnley to get by far.

Lowton > Soyuncu or Mings. Prefer Soy because he rotates quite well with Lundstram.

                Pope (Button)
                TAA Digne VVD Zinchenko Lund
                Salah Sterling Martial Perez (Dendocker)
                Pukki Barnes (Greenwood)

I have got to get rid of this ancient relic Perez... I am leaning towards sticking with Martial for now as I am not convinced of Martial -> James or Mount.

Unfortunately I am 0.3 short for doing Perez, VVD -> KDB, Mings.

Only other option coming to mind is Perez, Martial, VVD -> KDB, James (or Mount), Mings (or Soc).

                Any other ideas?

I'm actually considering to save my FT and just bench Perez and see what happens after the GW. That would give me 2 FTs to adjust next week

Yeah think I'd wait if it's KDB you want (unless willing to get a cheapo defender, which seems risky when already have Greenwood and Dendoncker)

Thoughts on going Dilva/KDB instead of Sterling/KDB long term? That money saved on Dilva is just huge.

Sterling/Aguero & KDB/DSilva is the way to go!
