Scoutcast Episode 300 – Spartans

After around a decade of shows the Scoutcast has reached the momentous 300 episode mark.

From its origins, when Mark and Granville used to find time to podcast during their lunch break at work, to the live stream video version of today, the Scoutcast has long been a staple part of Fantasy manager’s lives.

But while the cast and technology has changed the issues remain the same.

One of these recurring themes has been the arguments that greet any cast member’s decision to Wildcard. This week’s show, ahead of Gameweek 5, is no different.

Knowing full well what may happen Joe tentatively presents his team overhaul to co-hosts Az and Neale. In Scoutcast tradition he then has defend his decisions, like one of the 300 Spartans who famously took on an army more than 2,000 years ago.

Elsewhere, the crew take a look back at some of the many mistakes and small successes of Gameweek 4 and how they plan to turn their fortunes around this coming weekend.

Kevin De Bruyne’s captaincy credentials, the best clean sheet prospects and Arsenal’s fixtures are among issues on the bill.

The crew also reveal what factors they use when making decisions, which covers everything from the growth of expected stats to the eye and even ‘ear test’.

Meanwhile, Neale’s differential shout for September and October ensures the arguments continue.

This episode wraps up with a tribute to an unlikely Scoutcast star over the years and details of how to help the charity that originally looked after him.

This Scoutcast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel. Be sure to subscribe to get notified of future live episodes.

In addition, the Scoutcast and all our other podcasts are now also available via our Soundcloud channel.

If Everton regress in cs to early season form from last season Digne is likely to be miles off.

Is having Pepe and Son in your team instead KDB and some premium attaker (Auba, Kane) a good way to spend the money?
    My thought are:
KDB is stellar, but it's impossible for him to continue his form, because that would mean that he'll end up the season with 15 goals and 38 assists, which is impossible. On the other hand, Pepe and Son are well resterd, they have easy fixtures and their ownership is very low, which means that if you have them right now, and if they perform ,they could get you a massive green arrow.
    I'm open for debate 🙂

    1. Ask Yourself
      • 7 Years

KDB in immense form. Ignoring a player in form because at some point they won’t be in form is just silly imo. Obviously he won’t get 15 goals and 38 assists but right now he is killing it don’t punish yourself spending 9.5 on a spurs mid

      1. Ask Yourself
        • 7 Years

Pepe is good tho imo maybe even more so than Auba

Cheers. Yeah, I think that is a fair point. I know KDB is killing it right now, but I was looking at alternatives, and Son is the only one I found that could possibly match him with Spurs kind fixtures.

Yeah, he's really bad away. Only scored a brace the last time. Was expecting at least 3

I would think not. AMN has been one of Arsenal's better players so far.

How "essential" are ManU/Chelsea attacking players like Abraham/Mount and Martial/James on a wc? Easy to avoid or is it now the time to get them?

    1. Goat

      100% essential

Why? Didn't Mount play too wide last game and ManU aren't really trustworthy at the moment or am I wrong?

Obviously not essential. Mount has been good value and passes the eye test. James looks lively but past makes one cautious

cheap and scoring goals, I have 3 out of 4 of those on my WC but it was before their price rise and I will review whether I want to keep them closer to the deadline, but a double rise for Tammy and James will be a nice bonus even if I sell them 🙂

I think one of Mount or Abraham is a good shout considering Chelsea fixtures and attacking style. I'd stay away from any United players for now.

They fit a price bracket is what I’d consider - Martial aside. I’d look to have a 6.5 or so slot. That’d get you Tielemans and Trossard too.

    5. Pep Roulette

Look at the value they provide! James and Mount at 6.1 & 6.4 are great value for playing as wingers for United & Chelsea! Abraham at 7.2 and Martial at 7.7(OOP) playing as strikers for teams like Chelsea & United! These teams might concede goals, might lose points but they will score goals as well! You don't get attacking players from 'Top 6 teams' at such price! So yeah, they are going to be good picks on WC!

    TAA/vvd/digne/zinchenko

    Would you do:

    A) Jota to wood this week
    B) Jota+robbo to Barnes and vvd next week
    C) neither + suggestion

    Team:
    Ryan
    Robbo, taa, zinch, Lund, digne
    Sterling, Salah, kdb, cantwell, ceballos
    Jota, pukki, greenwood

Save now and next week downgrade VVD to a 4.5 and

      1) upgrade Greenwood to Barnes/Tammy/Haller depending on how they looks this weekend as they all play away from home

      Or

      2) Cantwell to Martial if fit and looking good at home vs Leicester

All the Pepe hype is a bit funny. He looks good in general, but his shots have been off. You don't get points for streetskills

        • Fantasy Football Scout Member
        • 13 Years

That's the thing though. If he was on target, he'd have 13 points from the game against Tottenham and this conversation would be entirely different. All it takes is one game to find his range and these fixtures are a perfect opportunity.

You don't score 22 goals in Ligue 1 and just forget how to shoot. He was lacking match fitness hence his withdrawal from Ivory Coast team. I think he'll come good. Very good. Let's see.

        1. TheDragon
          • 5 Years

I agree I think he will be a very good pick at some point in the season but no reason to get him just yet

I of course know that writing this will result in him getting 10+ points this week (you are welcome).

    Dunk/ Awb/ Digne/ Lundstram/
    Mane (vc)/ Sterling (cap) / KDB/ Lanzini/
    Abraham/ pukk/

    Subs Button/ Wickham/ Douglas
