Abraham in top FPL form as Chelsea and Wolves’ defences ship more goals

Chelsea put in a dazzling attacking display to emerge 5-2 victors over Wolves at Molineux, with hat-trick hero Tammy Abraham (£7.3m) stealing the headlines to underline his credentials as one of the leading value-for-money forwards in 2019/20.

Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-5 Chelsea

Goals: Patrick Cutrone (£5.8m) Tammy Abraham (£7.3m) own-goal | Abraham x3, Mason Mount (£6.5m), Fikayo Tomori (£4.5m)

Assists: Matt Doherty (£6.0m) Roman Saïss (£4.4m) | Marcos Alonso (£6.2m) Jorginho (£5.0m), Michy Batshuayi (£6.7m)

Bonus: Abraham x3, Mount, Tomori x2

With all five of the goals from Frank Lampard’s side being scored by players produced from their academy, this was a performance and a result that strongly justified the Chelsea boss’s faith in youth during his tenure at Stamford Bridge.

There can be no doubting, though, that despite the emphatic team performance and such a bruising scoreline, this was an afternoon that belonged to Abraham.

With seven goals from four league starts, and two braces and a hat-trick in his last three games, Abraham is continuing the goalscoring form that he displayed in 2018/19 whilst on loan at Aston Villa during their promotion-winning campaign from the Championship.

The 21-year-old was exceptional throughout the afternoon at Molineux, and despite scoring an own-goal to reduce his haul by two points, Abraham’s total of 14 points was his highest of the season and his third successive double-digit haul.

Owned by just 18.9% of managers, those who are still in possession of a Wildcard but may be considering deploying it over the coming weeks will find it difficult to resist the goalscoring appeal that Abraham is providing at an extremely competitive price.

The England striker was supported in his goalscoring endeavours by fellow academy graduates Mason Mount (£6.4m) and Fikayo Tomori (£4.5m), who both scored well-taken goals.

On his first league start for the club in 2019/20, Tomori fired an outstanding strike from 25 yards beyond the grasp of Rui Patricio (£5.1m) to give Chelsea an early lead alongside sending a timely reminder to Lampard that his assets as a player in the team are not solely defensive.

Mount then rounded off the scoring after good work in the final third to add gloss to the scoreline that Lampard will hope can give this Chelsea side momentum heading into their next three fixtures against Liverpool (h), Brighton (h) and Southampton (a).

Despite their highly impressive attacking display at Molineux, the defensive fragilities that have seen Chelsea keep no clean sheets in their first five Premier League fixtures were on show on Saturday afternoon, and managers monitoring assets of the west London side will certainly be more inclined to invest in their attacking options as opposed to their defence.

Whilst Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger (£6.0m) did go down injured, Lampard confirmed his removal from play was more precautionary ahead of a packed run of fixtures.

“He has a groin issue that he bothered, near me actually. It was more than a precaution. Hopefully not too bad. Hopefully, it is a quick turnaround.”

For Wolves, this was a result that continued their underwhelming start to the season, and any managers still in possession of defensive assets from Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are likely to be considering moving them on.

The 5-2 defeat to Chelsea marked Wolves’ fourth successive failure to keep a clean sheet, and the added pressure of Europa League football seems to already be taking its toll on the West Midlands side before the group stage has even begun.

Whilst Patrick Cutrone (£5.8m) did register his first league goal for the club, there were very few positives for Wolves to take from the game as they were outclassed at home by a calibre of opposition who the Wanderers typically excel against.

Yet whilst Wolves fell short of the standards they set for themselves in 2018/19, this was a performance that underlined Chelsea’s credentials as being serious challengers for Champions League qualification, whilst pointing to some extremely promising work being done by manager Lampard.

If the Chelsea boss can persist in his faith of players such as Mount and Abraham, who are presently performing to an almost undroppable standard, then these are assets who could offer exceptional value into the Blues’ frontline.

Whilst Mount is currently the top-owned Chelsea asset with an ownership of 21.9%, this is likely to change in the build-up to Gameweek 6 as Fantasy managers flock to the irresistible Abraham who is seemingly in the form of his life; defying critics who claimed the 21-year-old could not make the grade in the top-flight.

Lampard will be extremely pleased with this result from Chelsea, and as the Blues bid to build on such an efficient performance with a challenging game against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge next weekend, it will be difficult for Fantasy managers not already in ownership of Mount and Abraham to continue ignoring these extremely exciting English prospects.

Wolverhampton Wanderers XI (3-5-2): Patricio; Vallejo, Coady, Saiss; Traore (Doherty 56′), Dendoncker (Cutrone 46′), Neves, Moutinho, Jonny; Jota, Jimenez (Gibbs-White 69′).

Chelsea XI (3-4-3): Kepa; Rudiger (Zouma 46′), Christensen, Tomori; Azpilicueta, Kovacic (Barkley 70′), Jorginho, Alonso; Willian, Abraham (Batshuayi 77′), Mount.

The last Tammy goal looked like Drogba was on the field. This kid could really be something.

Agreed. Contemplating Tammy in for Barnes with my 1.0 in the bank.

Even with the Liverpool fixure. Think he scores at least a goal then next few fixtures look nice with price on rise..

Based on the their matches this week & a gut feeling; i’d actually say drop Barnes!?
•Barnes Price could freefall with another blank,
        •while kings price already dropped
•both players are hella inconsistent anyway, imo
(unless u count King’s ‘consistent letdown’, ever since his epic Season as a MID? Lol)

Yes it was good but should a premier league defender get brushed aside so easily?
In case you think I am being too harsh I got him in yesterday.

Hard to know that could backfire especially this week.
Any limit on Sterlings CL time and I will go to the well for the third week in a row and throw the C on him. I have and want 3 of those 4 with the exception of Martial and even he still could be a great value pick.

Tempted to WC to this. Anyone else I should consider?

    Pope 4.0
    Digne Tomori Lascelles Kelly Lundstram
Son Salah Sterling De Bruyne Mount
    Abraham Pukki 4.5

On the other hand having no Liverpool defence might be too risky. Alisson does make a difference for Liverpool in my opinion.

Very similar to where I am now.
      I have Mane for Salah
Haller and Cantwelll for your Mounr and Greenwood.
I even have gone for the Tomoroi punt too.
Both our defence are pretty poor that's my worry but it seems the way to go based on how this season has been and Pool fixtures.
I still plan a move back to 2 big Pool defenders when the fixtures swing back and Allison is fit.

Same! Yeah no point investing so much into defence right now when it's not the play I feel.

I'm considering Mane for Salah too. I expect similar numbers from them.

Haller is a good player...might consider it for sure.

Mine is quite low, took a couple of big drops early on and was late to players like KDB. Only 101.5. Having a fairly torrid time with rank drops and things going wrong recently too, hopefully turn it around soon

Yeah, price drops taken included 2 on Perez and Siggy each, 1 on Wilson, can’t remember if there were others. 0.2 late on Pukki, Barnes, KDB, Lundstram, 0.1 on Mount, 0.3 on Cantwell having not played WC yet.

Add all that up and that’s 1.2m extra above players starting prices - probably why my TV is lower than most of the other replies!

I usually play it well enough. Get to over 106 usually by the dgws. But I find you can make the wrong call and go the more expensive option just cause you have the cash too. Leaving cash ITB can be the right call but feels wrong.

          3 in total

-8 in GW3 to mitigate the WC crowd TV impact

-4 in GW4 to swap Kane+Dendonker to KDB+Tammy (Prior to Tammy's explosion I thought it was a mistake as a straight Kane > Aguero for free was better).

Dendoncker to Cantwell done with FT. WC still available, and was just gonna Roll FT otherwise this week but did it to catch price swings as I know I wanted him in as an option to play rather than Lundstram or Rico every week.

Trying not to overthink moves too much, and just hoping things start going better. My big hitters/captain/differentialish picks can’t fail every week, surely!

No point playing it if my team is largely alright and just players being unlucky/underperforming compared to bandwagons I don’t currently own.

Pointless WCing to only make 2 or 3 changes, surely?

As an Arsenal supporter, that was one of the worst Arsenal performances I've ever seen. Watford didn't deserve to be losing at HT and embarrassed us in the second half. I've been behind Emery this whole time but enough is enough, our system does not look like it ever be particularly successful. Also, Pepe and Ceballos buyers, I did warn you that both were kak options. Pepe has been particularly useless, decision making in the final third awful and Ceballos while he looks good, doesn't appear to be much of a fantasy option. Auba is the only Arsenal player worth owning but Arsenal's creativity needs to improve aswell. Can't rely on him scoring screamers.

Yeah that's because Spurs played higher up d pitch and there was a lot of space to run into - it's the same with us man united we struggle against smaller teams to break them downn

Actually I should watch Arsenal tv after a performance like that. I need a giggle.
If I am honest I can't understand why players of the quality of Auba and even Laca hang around. Until they sort defence and some mids they win nothing. Surely Auba walks in to most big teams in Europe?

The top 6 look shite apart from City and Liverpool. Spurs the best of a bad bunch. Chelsea have been impressive but expect them to struggle with CL considering their young and thin squad. United and Arsenal are both rubbish and have Europa League to worry about. West Ham are in the conversation for worst team in the league defensively despite keeping Norwich out.

Yeah agree but that’s never been how Pellegrini plays our attack is insane. Haller Anderson Lanzini and fornals (best player imo) hasn’t had the chance to be fully introduced yet. It’s our year.
