Scoutcast Episode 301 – Crossroads

A bad Gameweek can leave Fantasy managers facing a tricky crossroads to navigate.

The direction they take in response to a disappointing score can prove pivotal to the rest of their season.

This is the key issue that the Scoutcast crew of Joe, David and Karam address as they look to get over their below-average early-season points tally and rapidly falling rankings.

For David, the path is simple – it’s Wildcard time. There are still plenty of places up for grabs, however, as he explains how he intends to assemble his refreshed Fantasy Premier League squad.

Karam is sticking to his plan of waiting until Gameweek 9’s fixture swings before taking such drastic action. He first highlighted this on a previous Breakfast Club appearance some weeks ago and hasn’t deviated from the strategy since.

Meanwhile, an already Wildcarded Joe looks back at his good and bad campaigns over the years to reveal that “doing nothing” may be the dullard response, but is often the most effective.

This latest Scoutcast episode also takes in defender plans, the fallout from Manchester City’s recent loss to Norwich and how to deal with a possible injury to Mason Mount while on Champions League duty.

The usual features, from clean sheets to Rough with the Smooth, are also included.

There is also time for Karam to recommend a top differential for the coming weeks.

    Afternoon guys.

Hope everyones having a good day!

    Would you wildcard this bunch;

    Pope Button
    TAA VVD Digne Dunk Rico
    Salah Sterling McGinn Mount Dendo
    Kane Pukki Wickham.

2 FTs so could just do Kane & VVD to Aguero / Aub and 5.6 def.

Would probably WC the following week?

    Any advice is much appreciated!

    Cheers!

How nailed are Aurier, Tomori & Rico?
Are they just playing while people are injured? Or is it their places now?

      1. Astonvanilla
        • 8 Years
        4 years, 7 months ago

        Not nailed at all...

Aurier could have nailed his spot based on last performance and if he continues to deliver and with KWP still out

Similarly with Tomori (Frank still finding his best 11)

Rico should be ok with the amount of injuries out

Yeah i'm on WC too, having them 3 allows me to have Auba, Tammy, Son, Salah & Sterling! Just don't want to have to rip it apart in a few weeks if them lot lost their places!

Yeah I've fitted in Salah, kun, KDB and Son so similar idea. Have you considered Mings or soyuncu instead of aurier/tomorrow?

              • Fantasy Football Scout Member
              • 5 Years

Yeah, I already have Soyuncu. I did have Mings in this morning but need someone to play this week, if I had Mings i'd be benching against Arsenal and i've got Tomori (Liv) and Soyo (tot) on the bench at the minute, so Rico seems better this week against Southampton. I also looked at Lascelles or Willems as we're playing brighton so hoping for a decent game and possibly clean sheet but i don't like having players of the club I support, seeing as tho we are terrible lol

Current team is, but WC active obvs:

              Pope (Button)
Lund / Rico / Aurier (Soyuncu / Tomori)
Son / Salah / Cantwell / Sterling (Hayden)
              Abraham / Pukki / Abuameyang (C)

I have 1M ITB but 'm not loving any of the 5.5 defs much more than the 4.5 options! Maybe Tomori > WBS/Lindelof/otamendi. Just can't see them outscoring a playing Chelsea defender so seems daft!

None are nailed, Tomori however has been our best defender in the past 3 games so I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he becomes nailed. Hard to tell if Chelsea will stick to 3 atb when Kante returns. For now though Rudiger and Christensen are first choice when fully fit imo

I don't like it. Looks like an accident waiting to happen.
There's no great option for captaincy Id feel comfortable with (Sterling is explosive but not consistent).
You're trashing your defence. Just because there's been a run of Game Weeks where defences have been awful doesn't mean that run will continue. Even if it did this a mass over reaction. What are you going to do when high value defenders start performing?
        Surgery. Very costly surgery.

Captain options this week aguero salah Kdb possibly digne!

If aguero plays more than 75 tonight

      A. Cap aguero
      B. Cap Kdb
      C. Cap salah
      D. Sell aguero for Auba. Cap auba

Tough one - am also monitoring this but have Sterling instead of KDB.

Out of these options, C or D, would lean towards D

On WC if you had to leave one out then who'd it be

      Salah/Mane
      Sterling
      KDB
      Son
      Auba

In order of leave out ness

        Auba
        Sterling
        Son
        Kdb
        Salah or Mane

Ok Sterling over Auba. But if you had to captain the one you select in the next 2 home games would you still prefer Sterling? With that rotation risk?

Auba then. But wouldn’t base a WC on one week captaincy options

Can get Sterling anytime later though if he performs.
But right now Auba is the central striker. Thats what attracts me.

Avl and Bou at home im captaining.

Tad concerned about the service he'd be getting though, the goals against Watford were literally gimme's, and it was only Watford.

Below is my WC draft, basically comes down to one decision - opinions ?

      Digne and Auba
      or
      5.0 and Kun

      Pope/Button
      XXX/TAA/Aurier/Engels/Lund
      Mane/KDB/Son/Cantwell/Hayden
      XXX/Abraham/Pukki

Could also have Sterling over KDB while choosing Auba but it would mean great downgrades in def.

Do you think Engels is worth the extra 0.1 over Guilbert for nailedness? Or is there not much in it?

I have Aurier & Tomori so need a 100% nailed 4.5 defender. I could play it safe and go with Lowton although I have Pope in goal.
