The FPL line-up lessons we learned from Gameweek 5

We take our regular look back at the Premier League line-ups from the weekend just gone, analysing the systems and personnel used by the 20 top-flight clubs and seeing what lessons could be learned ahead of Gameweek 6.

The article has taken a slightly different format this week as we harness the use of the average position maps in our Members’ Area.

The figures in brackets given after each player name correspond to the numbered shirts in the position maps.

          Doubt any def is worth -4, you can use your bench imo. Son and Cantwell should pay the -4 immediately. Unless you can downgrade Emerson and get Son?

            He's only 1.1 more than Cantwell at this point. 4 assists in 5 games is nothing to sneeze at, plus the Norwich fixtures are pretty great.

    Looking at WC'ing in GW 8/9 probably so thinking that taking a chance or 2 won't be too bad.

    Sterling owners - how many blanks will it take to make you finally switch to aguero? I'm being stubborn but rank is suffering week by week.. just know as soon as I do the switch sterling hauls!

        Keep telling myself the same thing but getting impatient. My ranks dropped to over 300k in last two weeks whilst captaining Sterling so resisting the wild card has been hard. Trying to keep the faith though, wild card will come in handy later on I think.

        He has scored 7pts more than Sterling in nearly a 100 minutes less, is cheaper and has is much less likely to be rested than Sterling this week. Not be even remotely interested is real head in the sand stuff

          city have been playing near enough the exact same system since gw1 last year. i have a 43 game model which tells me how that plays out. aguero scoring 7 points more in the most immediate 5 of those games is not that interesting. aguero a year older, sterling still improving.

        My two cents on this A vs B

        Kdb last year injury made sterling blossom. Kun was playing more "false 9" type to keep the ball in central areas and let sane+sterling exploit def back. This year he has kdb pulling the strings and that keeps kun more in the box "wainting".

        To other stats we can check how much kun+kdv on the pi

          Kdb+kun afects sterling and he has his potential reduced.

          The CL group also played perfectly regarding schedule. We know from last season Jesus was used in away games regarding def workrate, and this first game against Shakhtar was perfect to keep the trend. Next midweek game easy at home (cup and CL) he can give minutes once again to Jesus.

          TLDR - aguero better than sterling. Jesus+mahrez will keep ticking in the CL

          You could be right but is do think that with a bit of luck he would have had a goal/assist against both Norwich and Shak tonight. I'm never going to make my mind up, probably just end up leaving him in and blanking again.

              Hmm.. could pay off very quick.. I like it cause it involves gettibg KDB + Son. But Mount might only be out for a game and Sterling is scary to go without.

                Its always a gamble and if Wilson scores a hatrick you'll say you should have done it, but he could easily blank or barely cover the 4 points
