The FPL line-up lessons we learned from Gameweek 5

We take our regular look back at the Premier League line-ups from the weekend just gone, analysing the systems and personnel used by the 20 top-flight clubs and seeing what lessons could be learned ahead of Gameweek 6.

The article has taken a slightly different format this week as we harness the use of the average position maps in our Members’ Area.

The figures in brackets given after each player name correspond to the numbered shirts in the position maps.

Members can read on for further analysis, while those wishing to subscribe can still do so by clicking here – memberships cost £17.50 for the remainder of 2019/20 and a video of the benefits can be accessed here.

chelsea, Mane vs Salah, Kdb vs Son, Digne vs Trent and couple more things I want to check before I pull the trigger

          salah

Thanks. But I wish it was that simple, If I want Kdb and Son need to have Mane, Digne and Deulo instead of Haller. I want to keep Sterling, he will score big again very soon.

i'd leave son out in that case, wouldn't touch deulo with a 100 mile stick hehe. Yeah i really hope sterling sorts it this weekend.

Yeah, that's also my main thinking, could only change if Mane, Deulo and Digne go crazy this week and other options blank

After gw 3 was in top 23k now, 2 weeks later 710k, and I cant say I have such a bad team, just unlucky I guess, lots of injury and wrong C decisions

Last 2 weeks was forcing myself to wc but just couldn't find more than 2-3 players that I want in my team now, so was postponing it, this week I should have enough info I hope

My current backline is Super heavy (Digne, Robertson, TAA, Zinchenko)

Thinking of WC to shift the money to midfield and forward.

    Anyone having similar situation?

2FT with 0.0 ITB. Mount injured and worried about Sterling's minutes..absolutely no clue what to do for the first time in years:

    Pope
    Robbo TAA Digne Lunds
    Salah Sterling KDB Mount*
    Haller Pukki

    Button. Dendo Rico Greenwood

Could you downgrade robbo and digne and upgrade mount to son? Or..
      Robbo > Otamendi
      Sterling > Cantwell
      Greenwood > Aguero
      - 4 but if you think Sterling is benched then it could pay off as your bench is weak.
Bench mount for one week as hopefully back for good fixtures.

If you had the luxury of choosing between there forwards, which one would you pick and why ??

    Kane, Aubameyang, Aguero, Wilson

    1. Begbie.

Aguero is the best choice but I'd be tempted to punt on Auba with his fixtures.

I would say Aguero as well but after Watford their fixtures swing towards defensive sides eve-WOL-cry-AVIL-SOU... and yes there is also Jesus who completed 90 CL so at least for WAT Aguero is likely to start...

As for Auba, he is a tempting option indeed... Would like to see what happens after Villa and Untd

Aubameyang. Great fixtures, will play up top with Laca out, natural scorer

Aguero minutes may be managed though looks great in short term
Kane really unconvincing so far playing OOP

      1. Begbie.
        • 10 Years
        4 years, 7 months ago

Has Kane actually been OOP though? I haven't watched enough Spurs so that's worrying if true. To me it's just looked like Spurs are so badly lacking in creativity that he's been dropping deep to try and find the ball.

        1. Begbie.
          • 10 Years
          4 years, 7 months ago

Either way though he's clearly not looking worthy of an 11.0 price tag atm.

He is dropping deeper thats for sure, Son is a much better alternative if you ask me ...and the stats dont lie either.
Its just a question of time before Kane explodes...

    Evening / Morning all.

Would you fund Greenwood -> Tammy with

    A) Zinch -> Soyun
    B) Salah -> Mane

Leaning towards A as Zinch may eventually lose place and still believe in Salah over Mane. Already did Maddison -> Cantwell so will be for -4

    2. Begbie.
      • 10 Years
      4 years, 7 months ago

B makes more sense because you're replacing one quality Liverpool attacker with another as opposed to a City defender for a Leicester one.

Having said that, I strongly believe that Salah is a better option than Mane and would want to keep him at all costs.

I see your point and I was clear in my mind it would be B before the CL game. But with Mendy getting minutes, I am worried about Zinch's prospects, which made me rethink things. Also the fact that like you, I believe salah is better. Question as always is, is he 1million better...

    B: Aguero, Ceballos, 4.7 def

It's a tough one. Gut feeling says B just because of Aguero vs Kane. I prefer the remainder of A though so its tough. Is there a way to get Aguero and Otamendi or James?

      1. Begbie.
        • 10 Years
        4 years, 7 months ago

Sadly not and I think I prefer B too for the Aguero factor but the rest of A is definitely better so it's a bit of a headache. Think I might just stick with A and pray Kane comes good.

    2. PaladinVargas

A but only just. Have Ceballos myself but still a bit unconvinced. Aguero in great form but A has 3 starters.

        • 10 Years

Yeah as a non-owner I haven't really seen the fuss in Ceballos yet. Looks a great player but not a great FPL asset but with Arsenal fixtures it could be worth a punt for a few assists at the absolute minimum.

Agree with Leo, all 3 look good and I am doing A for a hit. But given its liverpool next for Tammy, in your shoes I'd go B, just because the upgrade of Son over Siggy is so much more substantial than Auba over Vardy

Wondering people buy Gunn this massively ahead of those fixtures, the hype is real

I was wondering this earlier actually. Heaton at 4.5 looks the way to go IMO purely for the fixtures. Both have the same amount of CS so far but Gunn outscoring slightly based on save points which is always nice but also points to a weaker defence in front so less CS potential overall.

Guess you have a lot of people for which the fixtures dont matter, just who has more points 😀

Which combination would you prefer up through to the IB:

    A) Guilbert / Son / King (-4)
    B) Guilbert / DSilva / Rashford
    C) Zinchenko / DSilva / Abraham

Not a for sure. Son is nice but other two not. I'd go C over B for sure

Is Silva necessary? The rotation would scare me. I'd go C though because Chelsea's fixtures are amazing. Would also maybe look at Otamendi instead of Zinchenko just for the fact he's cheaper and more nailed in that time frame.

C although with Mendy back, Zinc may be at threat of rotation.

Chelsea start an attractive run of fixtures after gw6.
    Leicester do so after gw8.

Planning ahead, which way do you think is the best to take advantage of these 2 teams' schedules?

    A) Abraham + Leicester mid
    or
    B) Vardy + Chelsea mid
    ?

Tough choice but sadly no midfielder from both delivers so .. it will be down to Vardy Vs. Tammy ... So A

Mount does, assuming he’s back fairly soon.

Could have had a haul v Wolves, nearly got 2assists and should have had another goal too

Walker is first choice cb and walker is first choice rb. I doubt they'll play there unless absolutely necessary as it would be a massive risk and they won't be wanting to drop anymore points.

Salah KDB other real captain choices:

    Pope
TAA Digne Zinchenko(?) // Lundstram Rico
    Salah Sterling(?) KDB Mount(??) Cantwell
    Pukki Barnes // Greenwood

    Help much appreciated x

I think maybe sit tight this week? Understand your worries but trying to predict City is tough enough that whatever you do might not be worth the -4?

Then you'll have a clearer idea next week?

I’m thinking that that is probably the smart move too - I’d be kicking myself so much if I ditched Sterling out of fear of him being benched and then he hauls, or even comes off the bench and scores/assists.

Zinchenko I’m almost certainly ditching anyway, but next week may be smarter so it’s not for a hit as I’ll likely go for Söyüncü who plays Spurs this week...

Mount from what I’ve heard may make it back for Brighton given there was no ligament damage so I’d like to keep him too.

Just a question of if I risk (c) on sterling again - I’ve yet to get a captain right this year and my rank has slipped to 900k because of it!

    Missed the game tonight.

What are Sterling and KDB owners thinking? I'm on Wildcard and have been thinking of shipping one.

    1) Keeping both
    2) Sterling out
    3) KDB out

It’s really a huge gamble. KDB should be fine so keep him. Some think Sterling definitely starts still, others (probably non owners) think he’ll definitely be benched, others of us have no clue and just want a good week for once!

It's too hard to pick. Gut feeling says to maybe try and work in Aguero over Sterling... but I was also looking at Auba..

Tomori a good shout? Or can downgrade to Rico to generate some cash to upgrade Dendocker next week?

Not nailed and in a leaky defence and he won't be scoring 30 yarders every week. Go for Rico depending on what you can do with the cash or look at the likes of soyunku, mings & lowton

Mcginn, got no confidence in ceballos as an fpl asset. Both could easily be 2 pointers though.

Mount to David Silva for a 1 week punt before wildcarding?

Silva rested tonight so surely he starts against Watford?

Nice punt if you dont have bench cover for Mount. How much more will it cost you to put him back in your WC team?

If you are certain you're wildcarding next week, I don't see why not.

I wouldn't go as far as saying he "surely" starts, but then again, Mount is probably not starting anyway, so there you go.

Horrible management of official ucl fantasy.
They just deducted points from some players that have played and had points confirmed yesterday.
Miles to go before reaching fpl standards.

Sterling was benched 7 times in the PL last season. On 6 of those occasions Sane replaced him, the other was a change of system (352) with Mendy playing wing back.

With a lack of central defenders and natural LW options, will Pep bench Sterling?
