The FPL line-up lessons we learned from Gameweek 5

We take our regular look back at the Premier League line-ups from the weekend just gone, analysing the systems and personnel used by the 20 top-flight clubs and seeing what lessons could be learned ahead of Gameweek 6.

The article has taken a slightly different format this week as we harness the use of the average position maps in our Members’ Area.

The figures in brackets given after each player name correspond to the numbered shirts in the position maps.

Members can read on for further analysis, while those wishing to subscribe can still do so by clicking here – memberships cost £17.50 for the remainder of 2019/20 and a video of the benefits can be accessed here.

I'm worried / confused about ManCity defenders.

Out of Walker, Otamendi and Zinchenko who would you pick and why?

Have I missed anyone worth considering ?

The kms were put it despite the scoreline.
I am hoping now it total rest or at least 70 minutes.
And yes having to win games now has to factor into Peps thinking to play him
Think it's Sterling C and KDB VC

Player Comparison Tool. How much faith do you put in the results?

I've been planning ahead to do Haller to Vardy in the coming weeks. Just did a comparison for the last 4 GW's and it comes out 79/21% in Hallers favour. Both have played the same minutes, both have scored the same number of goals. Vardy has an assist. Seems to me that too much emphasis is put on less important factors.
Will still be bringing in Vardy.

Vardy is one of those players that seems to confound statistics. He doesn't take a lot of shots or have a lot of touches. But he shoots accurately and has a high conversion rate. That's why if he scores then he usually collects bonus too. I've been really happy with him this season, I wish I could keep him but I've gone for Auba as my premium.

Looking at WC'ing in GW 8/9 probably so thinking that taking a chance or 2 won't be too bad.

How does this look as a short term gamble?
    Salah + King-> Son + Auba (-4).

    Ryan.
    Robertson, Coleman, VVD.
    Sterling, Cantwell, KDB, Ceballos, Salah.
    Pukki, King.
    Button, Lundstram, A Smith, Wickham.
    1FT, 2.0m ITB.

Morning DZ, so my plan was:

    GW6: KWP -> Soyuncu
    GW7: Dilva & Martinelli -> Cantwell & Abraham (2FT)

However, I have the exact cash for these moves and it looks like Abraham is going to rise tonight. So:

    A) Stick with the plan & downgrade Soyuncu -> 4.5 if Abraham rises, or

    B) Make all moves this week for a -4

    Ryan
    TAA, Digne, Coleman, Zinchenko
    Salah, Sterling, Dilva, Mount
    Wilson, Pukki

    Button, KWP, Deondocker, Martinelli
    Bank 0.0m, 2FT

All 3 look better options so probably worth the -4
Bringing in Ab now with the fixture is annoying
I basically did the same 3 moves also for -4 a few days ago for exact cash.
I already had Soyuncu so went even crazier with Tomori.
The only negative is Ab and Soy immediate fixtures but I think it's worth it short to medium term.

Cheers. Yeah it is tempting. But I think I may roll the rice and if Ab rises then I’ll just get Tomori, a BUR defender or even go super cheap with Rico/Lundy instead given I’ll likely rarely play them. Losing Dilva (WAT) this week could bite!

Yeah Dilva was benched earlier so you would think he starts.
But even missing Soyuncu could hurt, as in a few weeks he looks like being great value with great fixtures. Yeah definitely a hard call.
I made the moves and happy overall but not looking forward to this week at all.

Noting I'll likely need to draw on my bench this week, as Mount will likely be out, does the first XI and bench order look right to you?

    Pope
    TAA Digne Zinchenko
    KDB Salah Mount Ceballos
    Aguero (c) Abraham Haller

    Button; Cantwell Lundstram Rico

      It's a 333
But Jota and Dilva ( not getting enough minutes so doesn't matter how good he is or his price - have to go)
To Pukki and 6.5 to 6.8 mid?
Don't like Lanzini personally but someone like that or Mount if fit.

You can keep saying this forever while the gap in points between Pukki and Jota grows and their value too.
Just get someone like Pope for Pickford. Even if it's a net points lost this week who cares as they appear to be good moves medium term.

    Hello DZ

    2 FT's 0.4m ITB

Happy to hold mount if he'll only miss the pool game. But stuck as to what to do

Firmino has done well for me, I can't drop a city attacker with Watford stumbling in and the Norwich dynamic duo are going nowhere.

    Maybe one of the below?

    Lanzini to Lamela
    AWB to Lascelle

    Squad is

    Pope/Button
    Digne, AWB, Dunk, Soy, Lund
    Sterling, KDB, Lanzini, Mount, Cantwell
    Kun, Firmino, Pukki

    Any help is appreciated!!

Good team mate. I'd almost consider holding that or just make one change. Definitely keep Lanzini over Lamela in imo.

I'd look for a better option thank Dunk in that price bracket.

Hold out for any Mount news for now in case it is longer than a week.
Hard to recommend a transfer as it's a great team. Immediate utd fixtures might lead me to drop AWB but maybe not for Lacelles

Have Kane and want to replace with either:

    A) Auba
    B)Aguero

Have Sterling and Zinc as city cover. Probably a common theme this week but who to get in? Auba straight swap but Kun would require two transfers (both free).

Sterling owners - if he is benched/blanks again this week, will you just “rage” sell him?

Be hard to stop myself from doing so, especially if Son does well again too

It’s tempting to drop one of Salah or sterling to son to fund a greenwood to a 3rd forward type but I think I’m just gonna play safe and hold even if sterling blanks again

Would really appreciate any help and opinions on this wild plan I have to get rid of Salah in order to balance my squad:

    2FTs

    Salah CHE (A) + Greenwood

    >

    Pepe AVL (H) + Barnes NOR (H)

    Pope
    Digne Robbo Lundstram
    Sterling Salah KDB Cantwell Noble
    Pukki Kane

    Button - Greenwood - Guilbert - Kelly

I’m keen to get an Arsenal attacker ASAP given their next three and beyond:

    Villa (H)
    Man Utd (A)
    Bournemouth (H)

But I don’t like the idea of a straight swap from Kane > Aubameyang given Spurs also have great fixtures:

    Leicester (A)
    Southampton (H) + Kane Armband
    Brighton (A)
    Watford (H) + Kane Armband

Pepe is obviously a risk but has had a month to adjust, has good underlying stats despite not scoring (Goals Imminent Table) and faces less competition with Lacazette out until late October. A brilliant differential to with 3.6% ownership.

This also leaves me with £0.9 ITB so I can do:

    Barnes + Kelly
    >
    Abraham + Soyuncho

    For a -4 next GW

Only thing to mention is that I wildcarded GW4

Spurs have great fixtures - Son much more proven in the Prem than Pepe, and Spurs are a better team than Arsenal. I’d essily go for Son over Pepe if I was in that position.

Also you got Kane and want to lose Salah before him?

What does Kane and Noble to
          Son and Forward
Leave you to spend on the forward?

            Salah + Kane + Greenwood

            >

            Son + Aubameyang + Barnes

            -4

Still leaves me with enough to swap Barnes for Abraham next week and eventually swap Kelly + Noble for Soyuncho and a 4.5 mid thereafter

              This sounds better.
Can you avoid the Barnes hit or really need for an 11 this week?
Losing Salah is a risk but looking at fixtures and who you can bring in it looks good as do the future plans.

Agreed. Kane is not in the right positions, Son far better option that Kane as a Spurs asset and over Pepe in the mid - Son also only 5/6% ownership at the moment.

Aubamayang only option at Arsenal worth considering in my opinion (non Auba owner but will be getting him this week I think)

Good point. Son much more reliable and and still a good differential. Still keen to cover Arsenal’s attack but I suppose I can always do Kane > Aubameyang with Son in the picture.

        Many thanks

Other than that, it’s risky - I can’t bring myself to ditch salah yet - but could pay off. I hope Barnes kills it this week.

Just now, Auba is the only arsenal player I’d be interested in. I’d much prefer Auba Son to Kane Pepe.

Friends, 30 points back on my $5K ML. This is my "disruptive" WC with $0.5M in the bank. Most of the TOP players remain with 2 Liverpool defense.
Last year ended up 11K, now 290 points, not bad but behind.

    What do you guys think??

    Pope
    Aurier - Otamendi - Digne
Salah - Son - De Bruyne - Cantwell
    Kun (C) - Pukki - Abraham
Subs: Hart - Soyuncu - Rico - Hayden

    1. Top Lad Dakes.
      • 7 Years
      4 years, 6 months ago

I personally wouldn’t go for city defence on WC. I get the Otamendi appeal ish since he should be nailed though I suppose, but CS may be much more few and far between than usual. Prefer someone cheaper like diop maybe? West Ham 2CS in 2. Aurier also a rotation risk, but I’d say fair chance he plays this week given UCL rest, right? I’d also be wary not having one of the Liverpool defenders. CS and attacking returns will come, for sure.

Up top looks pretty great though - would just be wary Kun could get rotated more with Jesus fit again, still.

2 FT. 1.2m ITB. Saving WC.

Kinda tough, not much I’d change - we have similar teams. I like the Diop pick, considering him to replace Zinch next week (him or Söyüncü I think).

Obvious move would be lose one of the Liverpool defenders. Could then upgrade Greenwood to Abraham if enough ITB, or upgrade Dendoncker

      1. Lav
        • 7 Years

Robbo or VVD? Robbo does free up even more money. Replacement too? Was thinking Otamendi but unsure on City now.

Definitely downgrade VVD or Robbo to a 4.5/4.6 and use the extra 3.5/4m to go Greenwood to Abraham.

It's a shame you don't have a little more in the bank otherwise Robbo to Rico and Barnes to Auba looks interesting....
