The latest FPL Gameweek 6 team news and injury updates

With the Gameweek 6 deadline looming, our first team news round-up of the week summarises the stand-out headlines from Thursday’s press conferences.

In all honesty, there wasn’t a great deal to report: only one of the ‘big six’ managers have held their press conference so far, with Friday set to be a busier day when it comes to injury updates.

Mason Mount (ankle) is one player we’ll be seeking clarification on, following his withdrawal in Chelsea’s defeat to Valencia on Tuesday.

It has been reported that the mid-price FPL midfielder has not suffered ligament damage although we are yet to hear official word from the Blues.

Three Premier League sides are in UEFA Europa League action this evening, meanwhile, so we’ll be keeping a keen eye on the teamsheets and post-match interviews for clues as to how Manchester United, Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers will line up on Sunday.

Daniel James (knock), Paul Pogba (ankle) and Anthony Martial (thigh) look set to miss United’s game with Astana but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will hopefully bring us up to speed on whether that trio will be back in contention for the trip to West Ham.

Mauricio Pochettino held his pre-game presser earlier today but there wasn’t much of use to come out it, with the Tottenham Hotspur boss defending Christian Eriksen‘s performance in the 2-2 draw with Olympiacos:

I am happy with the performance. Maybe yesterday wasn’t his best game like the team. I am happy with the commitment of Christian, he run a lot and was very committed with the team, the effort but I think I am not concerned about him.

Talking of Dele Alli, who made his first start of 2019/20, Pochettino added:

Dele is a different situation than Christian. He got injured from the beginning of the season. I think it was his first start of the season. He needs time to recover his best feeling. I am happy with him, too.

Spurs had earlier reported that Giovani Lo Celso (hip) remains sidelined, while Ryan Sessegnon‘s (hamstring) progress is being monitored as he continues rehabilitation.

The Lilywhites take on Leicester City in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off, with Brendan Rodgers revealing no fitness concerns and reassuring us on Ben Chilwell‘s condition:

He’s okay. He just had a bit of recovery inside. He worked inside, but he’s fine. Otherwise, we’ve got all players all fit and well.

Eddie Howe didn’t report any new problems in his early-morning presser, saying:

We’re pretty much in the same place, added by the returns of Simon Francis and Lloyd Kelly [in a game against Basingstoke] in the week. Obviously, different stages of their comebacks.

No further details were forthcoming in the broadcast section of Howe’s presser but BBC Solent Sport reported that Kelly is a possibility for Gameweek 6 and that Francis has an outside chance of featuring in the Carabao Cup next Wednesday.

Opposite number Ralph Hasenhuttl said of Southampton’s injury situation:

Nathan [Redmond] could train this week with the team. This is the good message, how far he is. If he really can play tomorrow, I haven’t decided so far.

Moussa [Djenepo] is out for tomorrow. After a few sessions this week he felt a little bit more his muscle, so we don’t want to take this risk, so we keep him out tomorrow.

I don’t know if I can grab Nathan for this position, I haven’t decided so far. We have one session tomorrow in the morning and then I’ll decide.

Martin Montoya has recovered from the illness that saw him miss Gameweek 5 but Leandro Trossard (groin), Leon Balogun (muscle) and Alireza Jahanbakhsh (unspecified) remain sidelined for the trip to Newcastle, while Bernardo (knock) only has an “outside chance” of featuring according to manager Graham Potter.

Ahead of Sheffield United’s trip to Everton, Billy Sharp begins a three-match suspension while Muhamed Besic is ineligible to face his parent club.

Boss Chris Wilder said of Callum Robinson, meanwhile:

Callum Robinson missed out on Saturday. He had a few issues coming back from international duty but he’s raring to go, he’s trained really well.

There was a further heartening comment from Wilder on John Lundstram, meanwhile, with the Blades’ head coach saying:

He’s been one of our outstanding performers in the first five games of the season.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson has recovered from the calf problem that has forced him to miss Burnley’s last two league matches but Sean Dyche said on Thursday that he would still have to make a late decision on the Icelandic winger:

Johann we’ll make a decision on because he’s fit but he hasn’t trained a lot.

Asked if there would be changes to his starting XI after the impact that his substitutes made at Brighton and following his post-match comments at the Amex, Dyche added:

This is a competitive group. Any given weekend, the margins are tight for who we pick. Last week was slightly different because it was a tactical change. We’re looking for everyone to be ready and I think they are.

Dyche added:

Because we had a tricky second half last week it’s almost like, I mentioned about change and everyone thinks you’re going to change.

It doesn’t mean I’m going to change it. Historically I don’t change the team that often, as everyone knows, but, when I think it’s right to change it, I will do.

Watford will be without Craig Cathcart (thigh) and Isaac Success (groin) for the match against Manchester City on Saturday.

Cathcart is expected to return to training next week.

Predicted line-ups and more detailed information can be found in the Team News tab, which is being refreshed this afternoon.

    Evening!

Depending on Mount news, what do you think of these moves?

VVD, Zinch, Dendo > TAA, Lowton, Cantwell (-4)

    To give me:
    0.5itb
    Heaton
    TAA, Digne, Lowton, AWB
    Salah, Sterling, KDB, Cantwell
    Pukki, Haller
    (Button) (Mount, Lunds, Greenwood)

Would then hopefully move to 3-4-3 next week, bringing in Wilson or Tammy

Alternative is to forget TAA, keep VVD and just do Dendo > Cantwel

    Thoughts?

Does Sane’s injury make Mendy potentially more nailed on than Zinchenko when he’s 100%?

Remember last season Sane did not play a lot of games with Mendy because of the his advanced positioning on the left.

I’d love a nailed on Mendy in my team.

Difficult to say. Sterling is on the left more or less every game now.
Mendy is very injury prone and Pep is aware of that, will ease him in.
Would love it if/when he gets nailed though

Go to transfermarkt, search for him and check his injury history. I can make it more easy for you. He will maximum 5 games and then he will be out injured again. Brittle bones. That´s why Zinchenko plays, because Pep knows this

    Pope Button

    TAA Digne Zinc (Lundstram Rico)

    Mane KDB Sterling Son Cantwell

    Pukki Abraham (Greenwood)

I’m thinking Sterling and Zinc to Vestergaard and Salah?

Salah a reliable captain and Zinc gone soon.

Means I don’t have much city though just KDB

nearly half of teams have sterling so no damage if he´s benched for one game

the real damage is if one of your differentials or not highly owned player is benched. If Sterlings is benched it will be the game after next ib. What´s the point of not playing him when there´s a week to the next important game?

    1FT and wildcard available

    Ryan
    TAA, Digne, AWB
    Salah, Sterling, KDB, Mount, Robinson
    Pukki, Jota
    Button l Lundstram, Söyüncü, Greenwood

    A) Robinson -> Cantwell (and next week Jota -> Abraham/ Haller)
    B) Jota -> Abraham/ Haller (and Robinson -> Cantwell next week)
    C) Mount -> ?
    D) Wildcard and sort out AWB too? My team feels only 3 or 4 transfers off being decent (Ryan, AWB, Robinson & Jota)

Depends on your rank....and who you fancy captaining for the next few....

If your rank is bad, then the players you have are not getting enough points.....

Could consider a switch to 3-4-3, with Aguero / Auba up front...

Also TAA looks a better shout than Robbo; could take money out of defence

Don't think Ryan is a good pick

        Madison could go

You dont have to wait till half team is injured etc

        Cantwell good 3/4th mid

WC saved. Lack of options ending up with same team as others everytime i tried.
So... Sterling+Grennwood to Kun+Cantwell gives me this

      Ryan
      VVD, Digne, Ota
      Salah, Kdb, Ceballos, Cantwell
      Kun (C), Pukki, Barnes

      McGinn, Lundstram, Rico

      Hey Guys

I am doubting about my move for this GW. I got 2 FT's and I need to get rid of Emerson. 0.2 ITB

      Pope 4m
      Digne TAA Emerson Lundstram Kelly
      KDB Salah Mount Lanzini Cantwell
      Barnes Pukki Aguero

Is Maitland-Niles a good move? They have some amazing fixture. Is he nailed, or is Bellerin about to return?
Additionally I could do Lanzini to Maddison (I really want Maddison), but I am not sure this is the right time (Spurs game). I could try to flip 1 transfer and just get rid of Emerson. If I want to keep the option open to upgrade Barnes/Lanzini to Tammy/Maddison, I can max afford 5.1m defender.

If Mount is injured I guess I am fine with Cantwell coming on in a Burnley game. I kind of want to start him anyway.

      What are your thoughts?

      THanks!

Thinking of just going with KDB for City cover and downgrading Raz so I can rid of Greenwood for Aubameyang.

Feel like I need some Arsenal cover as a differential and Auba is the man for them.

With their upcoming run Auba is a great choice. He might be a tricky captain option though.

He still scored though. Saka on the other hand looks a beast.

I’ve decided long term I want a stronger front line and replacing Barnes with Wilson.

Shall I do this week or bank transfer and wait one more week to do it?

The obvious answer is yes but Barnes’ stats last two have been horrific. However could change with Norwich at home.

        Thoughts ?

A lot of people say he is wasteful, but his conversion rate is one of the highest in the league

Salah and Sterling are the obvious captain choices for those who own them and not Kun.

However, considering (a) that Sterling played the full 90 minutes + Pep, and (b) my gut... is it *too* crazy to captain Pukki over them?

I know it is crazy, but is it only mild crazy or crazy-crazy, as in batsh— crazy?

Not crazy, don't think the risk is too high of missing out on Salah or Sterlibg hauls this GW

            Cheers, man, thanks!

My only concern is captaining Pukki and then either one of Salah/Sterling delivers. I'll want to kill myself thinking "WHAT HAVE I DONE?!".

            Again, thanks, mate!

getting in all the right positions, just missed 1 golden opportunity, but all strikers do. Hasn't blanked all season, Arsenal's attack looks direct, creating chances at will. Captain
